US to lift travel ban for foreign air travellers who show proof of vaccination

Count me in as another "don't really feel I need the third shot for travel." What we DO need is for the US to recognize our perfectly valid fully vaccinated status.
yup especially since there is lots of evidence showing if you mixed viral vector and mrna your protection is actually superior (albeit likely within the margin of error of the study) to non mixed (whether viral vector or mrna) https://vancouversun.com/news/mixing-covid-vaccines-offer-high-level-of-protection-bccdc-data

While I waffle back and forth on this issue, I think this is where my heart resides. I’m comfortable in the efficacy of my vaccine status. Frustrated by the bureaucracy, but ultimately unwilling to dose myself a third time for no good reason. I’ve put this to rest in my mind. I’m staying put until government works this out.
I understand, even though I and many people I know went the opposite way. In that regard, we had no worry about taking a third shot being as it has been made freely available by the Provincial Health Authority and sanctioned by both my doctor and the administering pharmacist. I tend to trust these professionals as I have no reason not to. Nothing wrong with a more conservative approach though.

Lord, yes. But given the crazy way things keep evolving, I'm afraid we might be a little naive to assume they'll always change in directions that are favourable to our situation. We took the third shots while they are available so at least we have it on record - come what may. :sad2:

I've read many studies with similar results and I'm confident this is true. Nothing's 100%, nor did any of the vaccines claim to be (people need to remember that in light of so-called break-through cases) but I do think those of us who went mixed have given ourselves the best possible protection.

Completely agree. Don’t get me wrong, if Ontario were offering a third dose, I’d be first in line. I feel comfortable with my mixed dose schedule, but if a third dose would smooth my way for travel, I’d take it. You’re right about things not necessarily falling in mixed dose peoples’ favour, although I certainly hope they will. It’s definitely a difficult time. I just think I ultimately don’t feel comfortable chasing a third dose outside of my province.

I've heard that Canadians might be getting the booster around Xmas (one article, but still). If that's true, would that count as fully vaccinated if you have 1 AZ (April 21), 1 Pfizer (July 21) and then the 1 booster (say Jan 22)?

::yes:: I must say until we get a federally-harmonized system of vaccine verification, you're probably wise. It's an absolute gong-show how the so-called "vaccine passports" are rolling out province-to-province. Coming up with a national registry is one thing the Feds could do to really help us all out.

I'm thinking once the proof of vaccination starts for intercounty travel it might change things.

Amen to that. The uncertainty is what I find the hardest. I think @pigletto said it here or in another thread, the not being able to plan or look forward to anything takes a toll. I don’t do well with a lack of control and this pandemic has certainly been an exercise in relinquishing control.

:headache: What a headache for airline/rail staff to try and sort through all the various formats there are now. We really need a national registry if this particular restriction is to be enforced with any kind of efficiency.

Ha! During a counselling session just yesterday the practitioner defined anxiety (in almost every case) as being the result of an unmet need for predictability and comfort. Considering what we've all been subject to over the past 20 months, it's no surprise so many of us are having a hard time coping. Hang in there. :flower3:

Samoyed. Now doesn't that just bring a smile to your face looking at that picture.

Thanks for the report. Two weeks at Universal sounds amazing! Halloween Horror Nights sounds scary....and not in a Halloween kind of way! Since you are home now, did you get tested before flying home? I wonder if you could share how you got tested? We were thinking of doing the drive through at Walgreens, but would love some real experiences. Thanks, and welcome home!

Sorry for the late reply! Yes, definitely had to get tested before coming home. I know a lot of people go do the free PCR test at the pharmacies, but I was worried about timing so I just ended up paying for a PCR test (same day results) at Fast Test Now. 5 minute Uber ride from Universal (6504 Carrier Drive) and before 11pm, I got the results emailed to me. Definitely wasn't cheap ($199 USD), but I wanted to make sure I had the results guaranteed at least 2 days before my flight so that I would have enough time to figure things out if I tested positive.

I'm sure doing it at the pharmacy is fine, but I've had a few of my clients get stuck at the airport without having the results in time and I just didn't want that hassle. What I did find strange is that the only person who asked if I had done a negative COVID test was the employee at the Air Canada desk when checking my bags and she didn't even ask to see my phone for the results. Bit annoying when I had paid $200 and they didn't even look, but so be it.

If I am going to cancel my DVC rental and get a credit I have to do it by November 5th. If I wait any longer I would lose 50% of the value ( over $1000 ).
What do you think the odds are that we will know whether the AZ mixed vaccine are going to be accepted by then ? I’m hoping we will have a definitive answer either way by then considering the new rules go into effect in early November sometime .

I am wondering if we will have a national passport start when they boarder opens up?

I wish they would provide more information about the vaccine passport? What are their plans for it? How will it roll out? When will this start?

Like always, they seem to be behind the 8-ball again.

They literally have no idea what they are doing. That is the problem.

Spoke to my MPP on the phone. In Ontario they are waiting for the federal government to release info on a passport that will allow for across the board international travel. He assured me that they are working on rolling out a third dose for mixed use individuals should it be necessary. He emphasized that they are hoping it will not come to that. Third shots will only be something Ontario does if forced. No timeline on any of this.

I have read that they want to have the stipulations out before the new international travel opens on Nov. 1

There is no promise that new international travel will open on 1-November. In fact, that seems very unlikely. Even « early » November is seeming unlikely from reports.
