Sorry for the late reply! Yes, definitely had to get tested before coming home. I know a lot of people go do the free PCR test at the pharmacies, but I was worried about timing so I just ended up paying for a PCR test (same day results) at Fast Test Now. 5 minute Uber ride from Universal (6504 Carrier Drive) and before 11pm, I got the results emailed to me. Definitely wasn't cheap ($199 USD), but I wanted to make sure I had the results guaranteed at least 2 days before my flight so that I would have enough time to figure things out if I tested positive.
I'm sure doing it at the pharmacy is fine, but I've had a few of my clients get stuck at the airport without having the results in time and I just didn't want that hassle. What I did find strange is that the only person who asked if I had done a negative COVID test was the employee at the Air Canada desk when checking my bags and she didn't even ask to see my phone for the results. Bit annoying when I had paid $200 and they didn't even look, but so be it.
It just goes to show what a complete circus is/has been over vaccinations. It was doomed from the start. Was joking with DH that with my luck I'd be offered a Pfizer so that I'd complete the mixing Trifecta that would put me so far outside the possible scenarios covered by travel policy that it would prevent traveling anywhere/anytime/ever.
Wow it's just so inconsistent. On Sunday when I flew into TO I was asked for our tests at the counter at MCO and that's it. I showed them mine and not my husbands and they were good with that. Even when we got to customs the customs officer didn't even ask to see our tests, vaccinations or arrivecan receipt. He asked if we were vaccinated we said yes and he stuck a sticker on our passports.I flew home to TO yesterday from Cancun. I was asked for my ArriveCAN confirmation twice by Air Canada. And once by customs in TO.
Also had to show proof of both vaccine doses to Air Canada - also twice.
And had to show my negative PCR test result to both Air Canada and TO customs.
Everyone asked for everything.

Us as well, sitting happily in the "got jabbed so we don't die" column here.Except for the part where we got protected from this horrible f'ing virus, earlier than would have happened otherwise for those of us that took the AZ as soon as it became available. For that reason, I'd do the same again.
That’s a bit of hyperbole I’d say. Canada actually leads the world now with doses administered and population immunised. The mixed dosing has been used all over the world. This bureaucratic difficulty is annoying, yes, but I’m still glad to have my shots and have no regrets about my mixed doses. Full confidence in my protection levels based on the data.It just goes to show what a complete circus is/has been over vaccinations. It was doomed from the start.
Same. Most of us on this thread are planners. We love to travel. We love to have all the details capped and loose ends wrapped up so we can travel worry free. I have no trips booked and nothing on the horizon for almost a year. I have time to wait and let this double vax status sort out. But I'd like to know that the path was clear so I could make plans. From messages above, it looks like some effort is being made at both the Fed and Prov levels. When that will bear results, is anyone's guess.have no regrets about my mixed doses. Full confidence in my protection levels based on the data.
Vaccine Mandates are official starting October 30 to board Air, Rail, or Marine transport in Canada - Federal public servants, RCMP and air and rail travellers must be vaccinated by month's end, Trudeau says | CBC News
Thought I'd update this thread as with the integrated preclearance on flights from Canada if the US will require anything Canadian security doesn't; it's an easy way for the CBP to offload the checks to Canadian officials and simply not have to deal with it or if there will be two separate checks.
Any chance this means that as long as fully vaccinated, the mandatory covid test will no longer be required for departure or arrival?
So many questions about all of this but they just give us a little bit of info.. drives me insane!!!!Any chance this means that as long as fully vaccinated, the mandatory covid test will no longer be required for departure or arrival?
If I read the press release correctly, the mandate is only for flights DEPARTING from Canada. International arrivals don't apply (which imply that the PCR test requirement is staying).
Or flights within Canada as well? I thought so any way.
We are both vaccinated but this would impact our connecting flights, we arrive back on Oct 31 to YUL and then fly to YOW so I assume they will ask for vaccination status somehow... will there be another app for that?
All would-be travellers must be fully vaccinated by Oct. 30 to board planes, trains or marine vessels
to help put your mind at ease, flying is likely one of the safest types of public transport wrt catching covid. Besides the air exchanging approx every 3 mins, everyone getting on a plane has to have a covid test, and as far as I can tell there is little evidence that people who work on planes (flight attendants , pilots) have a higher incidence of covid than the general population, and in fact they seem to have rates lower than the general population. I'm all for this vaccine mandate, but flying is already exceptionally safe even without it.I'm so happy, we leave n Oct 31. I was hoping this would be in place before we leave. The flight with unvaccinated passengers was probably what I was most anxious about.
