Upgrading a ticket to an AP

I haven't been around the boards much for several years, we had a job transfer take us to Orlando, so I didn't need much trip planning advice. Now that we have moved away, I find myself needing advice again :) I remember back several years ago, people would buy a ticket for several days and then upgrade to an annual pass later on. I vaguely remember, by doing that it could save you some money, not a ton, but some.

Through my job, I can get a 2 day ticket upgraded to a 5 day ticket. Would it work to buy that and put it toward an annual pass? Does anyone know if they still do that, and if so would it be the value of a 2 day ticket coming off of the price of the AP, or the value of a 5 day?

It depends on the type of ticket

If it's some form of a "buy 2, get 3 free" it may be a standard 5 day ticket that happens to be sold closer to a 2 day price.
If it's a Convention ticket it may not be upgradeable.

Make sure you check the total deal cost, sometimes taxes and shipping kill most savings vs other resellers like Undercover Tourist.

If it's a normal 5 day ticket, you need to use it to enter a park at least once, then you can upgrade at a Guest Relations in or out of the park. The term is "price bridging" where the CM issues a temp, new current gate price ticket, then upgrades that temp ticket to an AP.
A properly bridged ticket costs the difference between a new 5 day ticket and the AP (plus tax)
