upgrades?

Hi all, I'm new to this and was just wondering something.. I recently found out that I was going to have the week of 3/11 off... so i tried to throw together a vacation for me my hubby and son(10).. I was originally going to spend the whole time (8 nights) at wdw.. but i really wanted to try universal and I think my son will really enjoy it.. So i started reading a little bit here and decided to book at the hrh for 3 of those nights.. So anyway I booked a garden view room.. and am wondering about upgrades? Do they sometimes give complimentary upgrades? If so what do I do.. just ask when i get there?... sorry this is so long.. another question is where would be the best place to buy tickets.. I cant have them mailed to me because i'm scared they won't make it on time.. We leave in three days.. just booked the room yesterday! I assume I can purchase them there.. Right? and if so they will be the same price right?
Anyway.. any info will be appreciated... We're all so excited, never been there before.. but it sounds like we'll enjoy it!

If you join the loews first program you might be able to get an upgrade. Call 1-800-loews12 and they will give you a number and you can give it to them at the front desk. They will also send you a welcome gift (milk and cookies, wine, fruit basket) they will give you a newspaper each morning.

There are a couple of deals with tickets currently. You can get a length of stay visit valid for 5 days for $99.00. You can get all the tickets at the gates and you might be able to get it at the front desk at the hotel.

I would suggest you get your tickets at park gate the evening you arrive. There's always a long line at the ticket windows in the morning.
