Updated Palo Menu

it's really rude to take your phone to a restaraunt and we didn't do it een during the pandemic. palo should have a way for you to get the menu without a code.

This is the way now. Paper menus can be requested at guest services before you go to Palo BUT you will need to use your phone and the Ap and pick a time to go guest services. You can't just walk up to guest services and talk to a CM any time you want.

DCL have embraced the new technology and are using it throughout the ship. Scanning QR codes is the new DCL experience, so you need to manage expectations before your next cruise. Your personal opinion on whether it is rude or not to take your phone to restaurants does not matter.

This is the first I’ve heard of this. Are you saying guests that need GS for the hundreds of different things from being locked out of their rooms, losing their KTTW, needing to update billing, report a problem, etc are unable to go to Guest Services? There is no way that Disney is saying without a cell phone you cannot go to Guest Services. People on the UK test cruise even reported long lines at GS during disembarkation.

This seems like hyperbole and would mean that without a cell phone you couldn’t ever get a menu -since you couldn’t get a paper one without booking time at GS on said nonexistent cell phone.
DCL may have embraced new technology (which is a joke to any of us that have actually been on a cruise) but they have yet to tell customers that a cell phone is an absolute requirement for cruising.

This doesn't say if there is still an upcharge or not. If not, I think I would end up about the same. It does allow you to book Palo and
I will say I never understood the value of Palo dinner for non-platinum guests. The MDR dinner menus are really nice, comparable to Palo and cost nothing extra. Now a super high end meal like Remy, or Palo brunch which replaces a lackluster lunch on the ship, is totally another story.

For us, it's a lot about the atmosphere and having a nice, quiet, elegant dinner without kids. I've already bailed on brunch (which I really enjoyed) because of the wishy-washy policy having to have a crew member serve you on a buffet.

Honestly, I would normally look at the menu's on the Navigator app in the first place so I have a good idea of what I'm ordering before I even get to dinner. It really isn't so much to ask to take your phone out for a few minutes and then put it away.

I've said this in other forums on here and I'll say it again: We always have our phones on us on the ship, the app makes things easy to find and I love the notifications of upcoming events that I get on my watch. People seem to magically completely untether themselves from their phone which blows my mind. I always have mine on hand for my camera anyway.

I will say however: I hope that things return to what they were before COVID at some point. I could see not wanting to go this route forever and I do enjoy the nice menus.

Same.
Also heard it for the first time from a person who, by their own admission, has never cruised DCL even once in their life and pretends to be an expert.

While I agree with you, did I not read a thread somewhere where you would be checked BEFORE you board that you had the app installed? I'm so tempted to get up there and say "What's an app"?

For the doubters, receipts!

From the UK Disney Magic At Sea Test Cruise July 9

The Vlogger Claire had 2nd Dining but wanted to change to first Dining. So to do this they went to guest services on embarkation day. 9.10 on the video

"So we made an appointment, we had to make an appointment on the App to go to guest services, you can't just go straight there. We made an appointment and we got our dining switched. "

But that was to make a change to dining, something that you used to go to a dining hall to do, and not GS. She didn’t say that you had to make an appointment for every interaction with GS.
I specifically asked the menu question to someone on the test cruise and ALL restaurants do have paper menus that your waiter will provide. Again, COMMON SENSE is that Palo is not going to have a situation where you sit down, find out you don’t have a phone, and tell you sorry go down to Deck 3/4 and get an appointment for GS to get a paper menu and then come back for your table.
The absolutism on some of these posts is getting goofy and is spreading a lot of misinformation.

Definitely not happy about this change. Paolo is one of the few things I love for adults to experience on DCL. Now along with other cruise lines, they are finding ways to nickel and dime us. 😡

Saw elsewhere that Palo brunch no longer has a “buffet “ section. It is all plated and ordered from a menu including dessert . A lot of the previous items normally served are gone. You can order a small plate if seafood appetizer that has 2 small pieces of crab leg a shrimp or 2 a mussel and a little ahi tuna. Or a plate with a couple pieces of cheese a couple small slices of meat, a few olives. Nothing near what was offered before. Gone are the warm sticky buns, the multiple types of cheese, the scallops, the different types of seafood and meat and veggies. To me it is disappointing.

Same here, I always have my phone on me as a camera, so occasionally using it for other things doesn't bother me. I've also used the chat feature in the app to communicate with friends about their whereabouts/meeting up, etc. To each their own, of course, but I don't mind having my phone with me (and since we're at sea I don't get all the pesky notifications of emails/FB/etc. so that naturally 'unthethers.'

This is the case on the UK Magic at Sea cruises going on now. I don't think it's been announced how Palo Brunch will be handled on cruises leaving from the US.

I'd assume the limited menu has to do with covid spacing and fewer guests.... hopefully once the kitchen can work at full capacity again for a larger number of guests per sailing the menu will expand.

Do we have any feedback or reports from the US test sailings yet about what their brunch experiences were like?

I think someone stated those are all cast members, so we might not get much insight from them (as opposed to the UK sailings, where people are free to post what they want on social media etc. without NDAs. I could be wrong, but I think that's the sentiment.
