I wanted to update for all of those that took the time to show their support for our situation last week.

I got a call from the SpEd Director for our school district this morning. He apologized over and over again for what happened on Friday. He admitted that the district staff was at fault and said that there was no excuse for what had happened. He agreed that DD's IEP is documented to indicate the level of care, assistance and monitoring that DD needs. He is meeting with other department heads to ensure that this doesn't happen again. He told me that he was just told about the other incidents that happened to DD and said he was sorry for that as well.

He told me that they will take care of all of the expenses involved with getting the hearing aid repaired or replaced. He even offered to pay for mileage to and from the audiologist but I told him that wasn't necessary.

I explained to him that our concern is not only with the financial aspect of everything that she has but with her safety. He agreed and gave me his word that he will address these issues as well and get back to me within the next day or two. It's still unclear if it was the bus staff or the Best Buddies staff.

My intent is not to violate any rules since the first thread was closed. I just wanted to update without having to send PM's to everyone. If this is a problem, I ask that the mod's close/remove this thread as well.

Thanks again to everyone that cared!

I'm so glad things are working out. :)

I wanted to tell you about a product that is made for hearing aids-it's called EarGear (not sure if we can post websites here but if you google it, it's first) and they make fabric covers for hearing aids, and you can get it with a cord attached that has a clip. The clip is put on the shirt collar (or wherever) so if the hearing aid falls out, it will just dangle, rather than hitting the ground. It might be really helpful in your dd's situation. My audiologist says the EarGear items are really good.

I'm glad everything was resolved easily. Hopefully, her hearing aids are repaired/replaced quickly. :thumbsup2

I'm glad it all worked out. My daughter's friend had two hearing aids before she got cochlear implants, and I know how expensive that can all be.
I remember the battery for just one hearing aid was $500. :scared1:

Thanks for the update. I'm glad they're being proactive so you don't have to use precious time and energy dealing with this.

I'm glad you got the resolution you were hoping for. :)

This is a great idea! I was wondering if something like that had been invented.

Good news OP! It's nice that they are stepping up to the plate.

Since your last thread was locked before I could post again, I want to publically apologize for my remarks in that thread.

It was insensitive, unkind and unnecessary. :flower3:

I am glad the school is taking responsibility and will take care of all the expenses for the hearing aid. :)

:goodvibes I am SO glad to hear this, I'm sure your daily life is filled with enough obstacles to overcome I am happy this is one less one!!

DD does have something like this but it actually makes it worse. We clipped it behind her so that she couldn't get them tangled around her neck but she can still feel the string and then pulls at them. I do appreciate your thoughts though.

Thank you!

I'm so relieved to her the district is taking responsibility for making the situation "right".

You handled the previous thread with class- good for you! Thanks for giving us the update.

Best wishes for you and your daughter! :)

OP I am glad they are getting it taken care of as it does sound like one was negligent.

I did want to ask one thing, does the bus aid take her inside the school for Best Buddies or does the aid come out to get her? I am just curious on this as I know here the bus aid only gets the child off the bus to turn them over to the parent or aid.

Anyway, I hope they do better for your daughter in the future and maybe more training still needs to be done.

I've been thinking about you & your daughter a lot since I responded to your other post. My heart was breaking for her because not being able to hear without her hearing aid must be very frusterating and disorienting. I am also really happy that your concerns and needs are being acknowledged and taken care of by the school board. I sincerely hope that your daughter will get the attention and care that she deserves. I also hope that you get the peace-of-mind that every mother deserves while their child is at school. She is very lucky to have such a loving and determined mother.
