When my cousin and her DH and Emilee come over, she always ends up crying at family dinners. She's all happy and talks to us but then her parents give her a stare if they don't like something she says or does and she starts bawling. I asked if she does this when she eats dinner with just her parents and they said no.

They only use soy sauce (a little bit) when they make brown fried rice. When I make fried rice I don't use any sauce. I don't like soy sauce very much.

well, that i can understand. to make fried rice, but asians dont dump soy sauce on their white rice... now THAT is an American thing

Hey, I felt another earthquake today.
Sitting at the computer and felt a little rocking and heard some noises. Stopped before it even started, cat came out of room crying "meow, meow, meow??!!" Poor baby woken from her nap.

CRUD, My mom just sent me an email. Looks like she will be at my sister's house this weekend.. so I had to email her back with the news of the seizure.

Now all of my family will know, can't deicde if that's a good thing or not.

Sadly she's not coming to visit just for fun.. she just found out her brother is dying from terminal cancer (3 month expectancy) she doesn't say what type he has. She's getting together with all her siblings for a picnic to say goodbye. I feel bad for her, and for the families.. but I don't really know the guy.

My mom's family is really country hick, so we don't hang out with them very much. A lot of them live in the Twin Cities, like walking distance to my sister's house. But we avoided them as much as possible.. I'm talking country country hick here.. like uneducated, stinky BO, long hair and thrift store rag clothing.

BEYOND the flannel plaid shirt and holey jeans country hick--ok???

I've never had a tamale before. My brother has a friend whose mom makes them from scratch, and she'll send a big batch over for my brother. But he's never bothered to share them.

My sister had a Vietnamese friend in HS, and she lived with us for awhile in college. She made eggrolls (I can't remember what they're called in Vietnamese) and my sis and I helped. They are sooo time-consuming to make, but soooo yummy! She also used the delicate won-ton wrap, and the really thin, clear noodles, ground pork, lots of shaved veggies. YUMMMMM!!!

I love tamales....its really hard though to find ones that arent bland like Bernice said....I love any type of egg rolls except I cant stand the rice noodles...they make me gag....

It's all about the salsa babe!!!!

I've heard of sweat tamales but never tried one (did have a corn filling once, it was ok)

i wouldnt eat anybodys "sweat" tamales but sweet Ive had...they use a cheese sort of like ricotta and fill it with raisins, sugar, cinammon, pineapple and then a gooey cheese...its ok but Id rather have really spicy pork mole tamale...yum

I've been kinda nervous about those and some of the restaraunts around here-- tempted but want to hear from someone if they are good or not.Here we have hand wheeled ice cream carts, they hang out by the schools after class. Kinda creepy looking.

i cant answer you on the restaurants because im not a big mexican restaurant fan...I would rather make it myself...but most places have mexican markets where they sell burritos, tacos, tamales etc...and they are usually good...you just have to find the one you prefer but the little guys who have the hand wheeled ice cream usually are selling the frozen fruit bars and they are really good...wouldnt worry about them at all...your just closer to the boarder of mexico and arent used to seeing what the real border brothers look like coming from Minnesota and all

We don't eat much candy either. We have trouble getting rid of the candy after Easter or Halloween, so we send a bunch with DH to work. Those DEV people are vultures, I tell ya, they'll eat ANYTHING!!!

But I do buy the mini-size candy to keep in a jar in the kitchen, for when I get a chocolate craving. I love the little Snickers and the mini Hersheys mixed bars. I've gotten more into dark chocolate lately, I must be turning into a grown-up.

ah me too then because I adore dark chocolate over any other chocolate out there...I remember even as an adult my mom would buy the mixed bags that had hershey, goodbars, those chocolate bars with rice krispy inside and dark chocolate and I would throw out the dark ones and now I dig through the bag and pull out all the dark chocolate ones and give the rest of the bag away

correction, soy sauce on rice is an american thing.

I've made my own salsa, pico de gallo type. My MIL was drooling over it.. guess it was good.

yeah, we buy jarred or canned salsa verde. Tomatillos are weird things. If I can get a jar for less than the cost of ingredients , then by golly I'm buying the jar!

When i was little I would ask my mom "what are we", she would reply "Finnish Irish English American Mutt" hmmmmm sounds about right.
Now my kids are that plus Latino of Mexican desecent.
Maybe instead of mutt.. they should be perros?

Hello bernice, if you are still around. ugh... what a night, and then what a day! Alex woke up at 11:30, then went back to bed... I FINALLY fell asleep around 2, Alex comes in and wakes me up around 3.. he cant sleep. GO BACK TO BED!!!! He comes back in around 4:30, my ear hurts, and I want daddy to take me to the doctor. and then I realize I am laying in a PUDDLE!!! Mikalah peed through her diaper. So I get up, and get Alex settled on the couch, give him some medicine, and a snack... I called dh to let him know Alex MIGHT have an ear infection. "What do you want me to do? If I come home, I cant use vaca. hours..." So by this time, I was very tired.. when I am VERY tired, I get a tad pissy.... and angry. "NO CRAP!!! Im not Fing STUPID you know!!!! Whoops... Didnt mean to scream at him. Oh well... He will get over it. So I turn on cartoons for Alex, ask if he will be okay if mom goes and takes care of the baby.. Yeah, hes watching cartoons, what does he need me for? So I change the babys diaper, change the sheets, lay down a blanket for her, and she sleeps through the whole thing! So I pass out on the couch with Alex... Dh comes home at the regular time. We are watching Alex, to see if he NEEDS to go to the doctor... he is running around, playing and having a good ole time. So we vote no doctor... and no school. Dh calls the school, gets everything straightened out with them.. We made Alex lay down around 9:30, and I conked out on the couch while Mikalah watched Monsters Inc. Alex slept til around 2:30, and the kids proceeded to fight til 7 when I put them to bed. To top it off, we missed Back to School night, which Alex was VERY excited about.

oh yuck that is the reason i left cali...

i am watching the news and there is a interesting story about a mother and sister getting on a bus and slapping a bully because he hit there son and the bus driver i guess did nothing so they took it into there own hands ... was that anyone on here i know we were talking about that a couple of days.

he is just peachy. Has been most of the day. I was wondering if he had some pressure built up in his ear, and the meds helped relieve the pressure.
