Units near each other?

Hello all
This may be a question that gets asked all of the time, and with all of our past stays I should probably know the answer by now - but I don't. For our next trip in October we have two villas booked (on points, we are DVC members) at OKW - a two bedroom and a one bedroom. I'm wondering if the units will automatically be near one another or if I need to request that. Right now I have no requests in, so if I need to request it I can - but I'm not sure if it's necessary.
Thanks for any advice you can give!

You need to call MS and have a 'Travel With' put on both reservations. This will alert the room assigner that there are multiple rooms for the travel party and they will do their best to assign them as close together as possible.

Just beware that getting rooms together is not always possible. We traveled with family in 2010 and I requested the rooms be very near each other at BWV, preferably across so that we could easily socialize. What I got was, two rooms on the same floor, but very far down the hallways from each other, so it was impossible to visit each other without trekking down the hallway. I was SO disappointed.

I wasn't even lucky enough to get the same floor as my guests. :(

We're going with relatives soon and I'm going to have to get that request in. Thanks for the reminder.

Just be sure to make that your only request.

Will do. I hardly ever request anything. i think when my parents came once I asked for them to be near the elevators. I actually prefer to be way down the hall. (BWV)

Our last stay with family at BLT had my family on the 11th floor, and our guests on the 4th floor. We had alerted the front desk several times that we had family joining us. We were originally told they would be assigned the studio that attached to our 1 bedroom, but I guess another guest somehow got that villa, and our guests were 7 floors below us.

Just go into the vacation knowing there are no guarantees that your villas will even be close to each other. That way if they are, it will be a pleasant surprise.

OKW does a pretty good job of meeting such requests. Be sure to have the request noted on both reservations.

For our family trip this past June, we had 2 2BRs and a 1BR and were all on the same floor in the same Building at OKW.

Enjoy!

We had a GV and 2 studios at OKW. Requested that they be as close together as possible. Not even a little bit close. The two studios were close to each other but both of those were a nice little walk from the GV.

Thanks for the reminder! I have to call right now and make sure that's on my reservation for our trip in 9 days! Hopefully, due to the time of year and the fact we don't have any requests on our file, that AKV will atleast be able to put us on the same floor!

Thank you everyone - just made the call and they put the request on both reservations.

I forgot to ask when I called - so one more quick question - three of us will arrive early in the day and go to OKW to check in. My son and daughter arrive late that night - probably won't get to the resort until close to midnight. They are in the second villa - their names are listed on the reservation for that unit. Will my husband and I be able to check into both units when we arrive in the morning even though our names aren't listed as occupying the second unit?

We made both reservations on our DVC membership - so I'm guessing we can check into both - but just want to be sure.

Thanks again!

If you are not a registered guest of a room, you can't check-in for that room.

Were they in the same building? When we have done "traveling with" requests, we have always gotten units in the same building. Now of course, that means studios could be on opposite ends of the building, since the studios are on the outside corners of most buildings there.

In 2007 I reserved a 2 bedroom and a studio, and told my guest in the studio that we would use the 2 bedroom as the home base. We went in together and bought lots of supplies. Plus my guest were hard to deal with...

Result: separate floors and away from the elevators at BWV.

In 2011, we brought guest and each had studios and everybody was on the dining plan. These folks were reasonable and easy going.

Result: Our rooms were within 20 feet of each other.

No. While I don't remember the exact building numbers, I know that a few times we drove to pick up the studio people because we felt bad at how far away they were.

When we were at Hilton Head last summer we had a GV and a studio. Could not have humanly been further apart. The studio was in the lodge and the GV was the one that is right by where you rent kayaks at the other end of the resort. We rarely saw my sister that trip, it was too far and too hot to walk.

This was two times out of maybe twenty though where we have not been relatively close to each other. Disney does its best to accommodate and is more often than not, successful. But that time at Hilton Head it sure felt like they were out to get us.

This past year we went to disney and stayed at the beach club villas. We had a reservation and my brother had one as well. We contacted member services and had them link the reservations in an attempt to get us close together. We checked in on a Saturday and my brother checked in on a Monday. We had low expectations regarding room placement but hoped for the best. To our surprise, our villas were right next to each other and we had an amazing time. I know that this is completely dependent on the scheduling but the bottom line is...link your reservations (using confirm numbers and member numbers) and you could be placed in close proximity to each other. We were fortunate... I wish you luck!

My experience with this had not been good at WDW. We have a number of times and at different resorts been placed on different floors, at OKW different buildings in the Turtle Pond area that were not even close.
Our successful experience was this summer at VGC, two one bedroom villas just a few doors apart. Made it easier to hang out and enjoy time together.

Guess we were in the lucky group in that both times we requested two rooms close together they were both in the same building at OKW. I have found the room assigners at OKW to be most helpful. One time we had a split stay and when I mentioned to the front desk clerk that we would be back in a few days to check in again and that I really hoped to get building 55 (my favorite - also the one that my deed says I own a tiny portion of) she got the woman to come out and talk to me. Yep we got exactly the unit I was hoping for. I know that is the exception but it sure made for some special pixie dust feeling. I certainly never expected to talk with the room assigner and would never ask outright for that. The only other time I spoke with someone who assigns rooms was when they told us our room was ready and in fact the housekeeper was just going into the room to clean it when we got there. I asked if they had anything that was ready and the CM really tried to find one that met my requests and when I told her the only one I really cared about was near a pool she found us a unit in bldg 46. I am sure it had to do with it not being a busy time and there being no one else in the check in lines at that time.
As others have said make it your only request and you stand a better chance of getting it.

With the size of VGC, that shouldn't be difficult.

I have found it hit or miss no matter where we have stayed. Sometimes they can accomodate, sometimes not. This past August OKW had us 5 buildings apart.....but then upon check in at Vero we had connecting rooms (we didn't ask for that) so I have to lean toward the idea that it is whatever is available.
