Underwater Digital Camera Info - Different Models (merged threads)

Ok...just back from our 7 day Eastern onboard the Magic and had a fab time and I am so happy to report that I LOVED MY OLYMPUS 850 camera. It took great underwater shots and and I also used it in port instead of lugging my big sony 12x cybershot.

I will post pics later tonight if I get a chance but I took it in the adult pool onboard and had serveral people ask me about it (at first they thought I was nuts) and used it in St. Maarten and all day on Castaway Cay. Got some great sting ray shots!!! My friend used it when he went way out snorkeling at CC.

I did find it very hard to actually see what I was shooting at. The screen does have a terrible glare in the sun/underwater and I could not review what I took until I got indoors but I still loved the camera....just wish it had a viewfinder instead of the screen. The orange floaty strap was great!!!

Hope to post some pics tonight!!!

MJ

MJ - sorry we never got to meet on board. We had fun with our 1030 too, but are still getting used to it. Had trouble seeing the viewfinder in the bright light and underwater, but I figure it's just a learning curve to get over.

Sandy, I saw you and Judy a few times but you were always engaged in conversation with others....I saw you at the adult pool a few times and was not too far behind you on the last night when you were saying goodbye to Luke as we all were leaving Pub Night. Sorry we did not get a chance to meet!!!

As promised....here are some pics from our cruise last week with the Olympus 850 SW

I am so happy with the way they turned out!!!

The earlier fish ones were from St. Maarten and the later stingray and fish and minnie were at Castaway Cay. BTW the first two stinray shots were of a stingray at the family beach. He still had his barb on. The ones at the Stingray excursion are "groomed" to have their barbs removed. As my friend said "he was face to face with danger" at CC!!! LOL!!!

Just bumping up for all the other Olympus fans!!!

Thanks for posting the pics MJ. Like you, I also got this camera (from DH) for my bday last sunday. We'll be at the next eastern cruise (Nov.8th) and i'm really excited to try the camera. We have a pool so maybe i'll dip it in and take some shots!

Hope CA is warmer than it was in NY when I first got the camera.....I could not wait and wanted to test it in our pool but the air temps had been hovering around 50 that week at night but I needed to see how the camera worked so I waded in one afternoon....brrrrr that water was chilly!!!! But I soon forgot my chills when I started playing with the camera!!

Has anyone tried one of the Pentax models? The thing I like about Pentax is the video format. It has 30 FPS instead of 15 and is not limited to 10 seconds (640x480) like the Olympus models. I love videos and use that feature often. The ISO range for the Pentax is also better.

I have a Rebel Digital SLR that I love. I took many pics last trip....but I am looking for something more rugged that I can get some underwater shots and not worry so much about. I found the Olympus 1050sw on amazon for 250. I think the big difference with this and the 1030sw is the image stabilizer...and it only comes in black.

Here are a couple shots I took with Rebel.

I have a Pentax and love it! I've had it for a few years, and am very pleased with it.

He did catch a barracuda, as you can see, but it was before your cruise!!!! Must be a cousin!!!

Yeah, I see some resemblance between them :rotfl2:

Here are some from my $55 Vivitar 5188 with waterproof case. Every picture was taken with the camera in the case even though it can be taken out and used as a regular camera. This was the best $55 I spent on a camera.
