U. S. Passport fees will be going up as of March 11,2010.
The current price is $75.00 for a new passport for an adult going up $35.00 for a total of $110.00 plus the $25.00 fee to the passport agency or post office. Kids under 16 are also going up $35.00 from $60.00 to $95.00.

guess I'll work on getting the passports soon then.

Ugh. I was going to get one but I don't think I can get it before the 11th. My old one just expired last month.

I'm not even sure it's considered a new passport if I've already had one, but it's expired.

Its $100.00 here, so I guess 10 bucks more won't hurt me.:confused3

Yours would be considered a renewal. As long as you originally got it as an adult over 16. You would process this on your own through the mail and not have to pay the $25.00 processing fee. Send in the renewal app, new pictures, your old passport and the $75.00 fee. After the increase the fee is $110.00.

We just sent our renewals in today and paid for expedited service... an extra 60 bucks. Has anyone used the expedited service? Did it actually come back in an expedited manner?

Thanks. I'll look into this tomorrow. :thumbsup2

Shoulda figured... go government! Force us all to have one and then jack up the prices... Just like everything else... I can't say what I'd really like to say for fear of points...

For what works out to be about a dollar a month to have I don't see the big deal. A passport is good for 10 years, at even $135.00 the monthly cost of have on is $1.125. No issues with the price increase here.

Does anyone know what happens to a valid passport when you change your name (marriage, divorce, etc) I'm sure there's a fee to re-issue a new one, is it the same as a renewal?

Thank you for the heads up. I am going to get them done this week for the kids and get mine renewed as well.

So, is the renewal fee going up as well or will it remain $75? I can't find any info on the US passport website.

There doesn't seem to be an official date on the passport site because its still in public review period (I think its what it is called) for a total of 30 days. This ends on March 11th (30 days from its original request on February 9th), it is assumed it will be fully enacted that day or shortly thereafter.

Wow! Glad I saw this!! We need to get one for our youngest son, guess we'll be going this week to get it done.

I have an issue. $35 bucks is still money not in my account. Increasing fees is no different than increasing taxes. This is a 40% increase in price - it's ridiculous!
