My DD will be 6 1/2 when we go to Disney in October. She is a daredevil! Fright isn't a factor when it comes to rides. She will not, however, try to swim without her water wings. I tried explaining that she needs to swim for Typhoon Lagoon but she won't hear it! My question is can she wear them on the water slides? The only slides I will allow her to do are the ones that include the double inner tubes and I will be with her. She is a good swimmer with them on. Will they allow her on the slides?

We were wondering the same thing too? Are water wings allowed in the water parks?

I know you can have them in the wave pool and swimming type areas because I saw kids with them on last Saturday. But I didn't see anyone with them on on the slides. I'm pretty sure you can't have them on there. I would think you could call and ask. The # in the UOG to find out when the park opens is 407-824-4321. Try that!

We were there last week and tons of people were wearing water wings. I always thought you could only use the flotation devices supplied by them. If she cant weat her water wings just get her one of the life vests supplied by them. We saw really small children coming down the slides with those on.

Great! I will bring them and then if we need to rent a vest we will. Do they still have the double tubes for the slides or are they all singles. DH and I loved the double tubes and they would work great with Sophia.

Unlike a coast guard approved PDF (personal flotation device, i.e. life preserver) water wings offer zero protection from preventing a child from drowning. This is due to the fact that if a child ends up face down in the water and is unable to turn over onto his or her backside, then they will drown.

Too many parents are under the misguided belief that if their child is not at risk of going under, that they're completely safe, which unfortunately is not the case.

Water parks are especially dangerous given the waves and rushing water that accompany most attractions and which could easilly flip a child over.

She will love the new ride. You can do it as a single, double, or they have tripple tubes. Three different lanes to try.

You don't have to rent a life vest, they are free and available at the towel rental shack. By the way, you don't have to swim while going from a slide, the pools you end up in are usually not to deep and I think your daughter can stand in them herself, so water wings are not necesarry I think.

She can swim. She refuses the do it without the wings. She isn't confident though she does it when we insist she try. I am not worried about an almost 7 year girl who can swim not being able to right herself in the water, especially with me right there, but this may be helpful to another poster.

Good to know. DO you happen to know how deep the pools are? It may help her confidence level if she knows she can stand up for sure. It may not though. For some reason the age of 6 came with more drama than a soap opera. :sad2:

My daughter is 7 and rode every ride except the really long steep ones for the first time. We took her to the bottom of each ride first and watched other people coming off, this area also shows how deep the water is. Either my husband and I would go down first so someone was at the bottom when she came out. As long as you keep away from the bottom of the slide the life guards dont mind you helping children out.

Laudan14 is right, first take a good look at the pool where the slides end up in, they are usually about 3 to 5 feet deep (I'm from The Netherlands so I hope these figures are right, about 1 to 1.20 meter). And the pools are very small, it's just to land in and get out of fast, your daughter will reach the stairs very soon, she doesn't have to swim much, especially not when you go down the fast slides, they will launch you quite a distance.....but they are absolutely great!!! To ben honest, riding in a tube with waterwings is not a great idea, because you also have to hold on to the tube, the waterwings can get in the way I think, but you'll have to try and see for yourself, I think! Be sure to go in the wavepool, that is great, but take care of your daughter because when the big wave comes she will be swepped away for sure....and a long way too!

My 6 year old son wore waterwings at both Blizzard Beach and Typhoon Lagoon this past April. He wore them from the minute we entered the parks, until we left.
We had no problems with the slides, wavepools, or lazy rivers. And I felt better knowing he had them on. They are no replacement for cautiousness, but they boosted both his and my confidence (he can swim, but gets nervous in deep water)
Bring your DD's waterwings, and decide on a case by case basis. The CMs will not make her take them off.
