ok from what i can tell i see the blizzard beach will be closed in early november and typhoon lagoon will be open. ok is the shark reef worth it? and comparing BB to TL what fun stuff is at TL. how much extra for surfing? thanks for all your answers

The Shark Reef was $20 for half hour I believe.(or less!) The water was cold and the time went by it seemed like 15 min of instructions and 5 min to cross the pool - it was crowded in August, so it might be different when you go...

We also took a rolling cooler, and we found the perfect spot under the eaves behind the shark reef area (seems I read this tip on the DIS :) - we pulled 2 chairs and set our cooler on the end of the picnic table - when it poured rain - we were covered!! We shared the table (hate to say share since it wasnt ours either!) We took Sunny Delight, sandwiches, snacks, and cookies... and dd 7 stayed in the wave pool - you can only body surf in August - she had a blast - she tried the slide, but felt it went too fast, and loved the wave pool.

We went back around 3 - wait time for our bus was the longest ever! We saw 3 buses load for AKL and 2 for ASM, and Saratoga Springs... it was disappointing...

Yet even tho it was crowded, we enjoyed ourselves, adn I looked but didnt see any snakes or other wildlife in the lazy river btw!!

i didnt think there was a cost to swin with the sharks. hmmmmmm thanks for the information on the cost

The cost is only for those that want to go scuba diving, the basic course. It is not in the same place as the other snorkeling place. The cost for the scuba is $20 unless you are the first to sign up and then its $15 for the first 15 or 20 people to sign up.

Shark Reef is part of your regular admission to Typhoon Lagoon. Surf lessons in the Surf Pool are extra (don't know how much) and take place before the park opens.

We love Typhoon Lagoon.

What are you guys talking about -- scuba diving??? I know about DiveQuest at Epcot, but I have never heard anything about scuba diving at Typhoon Lagoon for any amount of money.

Shark Reef is free ! Best done early in day before the water is stirred up and crowded. Equipment is provided.

Surfing is extra and not cheap and before hours on certain days - call 407-WDW-SURF. I think over $100, not sure.

Only scuba I ever heard of was at the Living Seas in EPCOT and it's called DiveQuest...........and it is approx $150 each.

We enjoy both parks. TL is lush and tropical. More than enough slides for us, but not as many as BB. Has a lazy river, shark reef and the awesome wave pool. Beautiful park, you'll enjoy it.

I am going to TL for the first time on my next trip, so I can't speak from first hand experience, but according to the Passporter, you can scuba in the Shark Reef area. From page 173 of the 2004 Passporter:

"Get your first taste of scuba in a special section of the Shark Reef. Cost is $20 for the first 30 min. and $15 for the rest of your party or for repeat dives. Pay at the booth near the dive shop. Brief lessons are provided, and parents can attend their kids without renting."

While we're on the topic of TL, I have a question I posed but no one ever answered, so I'll try again. How does Gang Plank Falls work if I am a solo traveler? Will I be paired with another group since the raft holds 3-5 people, or am I just not able to ride it since I don't have 2 people to bring with me?

They will put you in with other people on the raft rides at the water parks.

Whenever my sister and I go they will not allow just the two of us to ride alone - they always want 3 or more people - so we have to share a raft. We'd really like our own but maybe it's for safety?

Anyhow, you'll be put with some others - they do it to everyone so don't worry and by all means, go on the ride and enjoy!

Hmmm, we'll be down there in October. DS would freak out with joy if there really WAS scuba in Shark Reef, so I'll check it out. My guess is this is something that must have been discontinued because I can't imagine that it wouldn't have been advertised if it hadn't been. Worth checking on, though.

We went to to TL on July 30th. Yes, snorkeling is free in the Shark Reef. You can pay extra, $20, for a half hour to scuba dive ($15 for each extra person). The area (reef pool) is divided in half with snorkeling on one half and scuba on the other half. We visited Shark Reef first thing and believe me, it is COLD. My DS LOVED it. We got him a life jacket (available for adult) since the water was over 10 feet in the deepest area - and he could relax and not worry about swimming. Lifeguards are in the pool to "rescue" anyone that has any trouble. They were very good with small children who became afraid.

You can jump back in line after going through. We had virtually no wait in the morning. We tried it again in the afternoon and the wait was minimial (less than 5 minutes).

We found TL very lush and relaxing - well, except for the wave pool. Man are those waves BIG.

Thanks Rhonna. That's what I was hoping to hear.

When I have gone to TL the past couple years in September they have allowed two (friend and I) of us to go on gang plank falls, but this could have changed as the last time i was there was over a year ago. So maybe it depends on the time of year you go?

On the walt disney world website. If you go to calendars and select Blizzard Beach for October, you'll see towards the end of the month it is not operating. This is consistent with previous years when one park would close at the end of October for rehab. After it is done, it will open and the other park will close for it's rehab. Traditionally TL closes first, but that changed last year. This year the feeling is BB closed first because it is just a normal rehab and they can plan how long it will be closed. TL may be closed longer due to the additional construction going on there.
