Totally unrelated, but,

1. Did I miss Beauty and the Geek this week? Is it repeated on at another time? If not, can someone tell me what happened?

2. If invited to an Eagle Scout ceremony is a gift expected? If so, any ideas? This is the son of my chemo nurse, so not like a close relative, but I like my chemo nurse! (don't know the son very well)

3. I know, I said 2 but it's not a question...l.just a mini-brag! DS17 got lucky and made region band! :woohoo: Apparently he had been 1st alternate and no one told him. Then today someone moved up to state and Rhett got his slot! Yippee! Now if he could just pass Algebra II :crazy2:

Hi MinnieM3... Congratulations to your son! It is great that he has a passion and talent for music, and is being recognized for it. I can't answer your first question as I have not seen the show. An Eagle Scout Ceremony is a somewhat casual affair but a big honor for the young man. A small gift would be appreciated, I am sure. Usually Scouts love to hike, climb and camp, so what about a gift card to a store like Eastern Mountain Sports or REI? (not sure if you have these type stores, but any camping type store would be great). Even a gift card for $10-$20 could get him something he could use. :)

Thanks Saphire!

Has anyone else been to an Eagle Scout thing?

Anyone else watch Beauty and the Geek?

I feel so invisible

Beauty and the Geek is on tonight. So you haven't missed it.

And congrats to your son! :thumbsup2

Congrats to your S on his regional band honor. My DD is in her District Honor Band and the rehersal was last night. She's been in the Honor Band for 3 years and loves it each and every year. So much fun to play with other serious musicians. What instrument does your S play. My DD plays the flute, this year she is the 4th First Flute, she is very excited.

Beauty and the Geek is on Thursday nights at 9.

You don't have to get a gift for a Eagle Dinner. I only buy presents for those who my S is close to, otherwise I buy a nice card. If you do buy something, I would buy something small, I usually give gift cards. PM Towncrier, his S is an Eagle Scout and would know more than I do.

My family is very involved in scouting and my DH is an Eagle Scout also (once an ES, always an ES).

We usually go to our local BSA Office and pick up and Eagle Scout pocket knife when we have an Eagle advancement to attend. There are many different eagle gifts available. You can order online from scoutstuff.org. They have eagle gifts starting at around $5.00.

This is a very important milestone in the life of a Scout and it wonderful that you want to help him acknowledge it.

Ahhh! Thank you so much! I will TiVo Beauty and Geek tonight! I always thinkg of Thursdays as Survivor, CSI, and ER.... I must skip one of those. Love Beauty and the Geek.

Thanks for the congrats on DS17. We needed good news around here!

I didn't know the answer to the Beauty and the Geek question - but I see that you received your answer.

As the Mom of an Eagle Scout, I have been to my fair share of Eagle Scout ceremonies in the past 6 years. A gift is not expected or required - but is highly appreciated! ;)

My son became an Eagle Scout 3 years ago and some of his favorite gifts were an Eagle metal bookmark, an Eagle fleece throw, and the Eagle Scout penknife. Well - acutally the cash was a favorite, too! :rotfl: A lot of people included $10-$20 in a card for him. If the boy is an active Scout - trips to the Philmont Scout Ranch in New Mexico, the National Jamboree at Fort AP Hill, VA, Sea Base in Florida and the Bahamas can cost upwards of $1200-$1500 per activity. Any extra $$ received are very much appreciated by the Scouts.

And finally - congratulations to your son on making Regional Band! :woohoo: Is he in 10th or 11th grade? My son is in 11th and plays the trombone in the Jazz Band. And I am *always* cracking the whip over his head on the Trig grade....... ;)
