Went to one of the annual board meetings this morning. Two items I thought would be of interest.
1. DVC received the actual 2004 Florida tax amounts and unfortunately had slightly underestimated them when they did the 2004 dues. So for 2005 the dues will be slightly higher than the proposed budget had published, and that we all received within the past month or so.
On average 2005 dues will be about $0.05 higher per point than was originally published in the proposed 2005 budget.
2. In regards to the DVC web-site, they are working on having it so members can access their actual DVC account information. We will be able to bank points on line, check reservations and past point usages, check financial aspects such as loans, and so forth. In other words we will be able to call up on line our DVC account information and review everything. This new capability is expected to be ready and on-line about December, 2005.
That upgrade will not have on-line reservation capabilities, but they are planning on that for still future upgrades. Obviously no earlier than 2006 and probably much later. Direct on-line booking, checking villa availability and such is a much more difficult problem for several reasons: Members' 11-month/7-month priorities differences - Thus the system needs to verify someone is truly eligible to make a reservation at a specific resort at 10-months using points from a specific contract. Other items include multiple contracts, multiple resorts, and all the differences and combinations that are possible. It was pointed out that when you call MS today, the CM may have to go through a number of complicated computer screens to see your accounts and make reservations. To put this capability into an automatic on-line system will not be an easy task.
The fact that DVC is aware that members would like this capability and that they are going to try to make it possible is encouraging. They are also aware of the potential cost savings this could create by reducing the loads on member services.
On a side note, I had the opportunity to speak with Jim Lewis for awhile and must comment I think he is a great asset to DVC and is a good thing for our members. The fact that he graduated from Indiana State and did his Graduate work at Purdue is even better....(of course the fact that I live in Indiana has nothing to do with this opinion
