Two Graduations, the world and a DISmeet

I enjoyed reading your last TR, will come back later to read. Also I know you'll complete the report, unlike another trippie we are both reading! :rolleyes1: I'm actually on vacation in your neck of the woods, just arrived today, but had to check the DIS after a long day on the plane. Glad you posted a link to your PTR on your TR!

so it is 46 days until the trip and MIL calls yesterday to see if there is a list of things to do at each of the parks, because there is no enough for them to do, they think they need to go to a botanical garden or something to pass the time......

Please someone help me....

They arrive Thursday and leave Sunday, with graduation the planned dinner Saturday night at Jiko, the really have 2 full days and 2 half days at Disney, How can they believe that they will be bored and need to find something to do outside of the parks.....

Really???? I need help... no, they need help

Yes, they need help! I am assuming they are not "Disney People".
Heck, i could spend 3 or 4 days just in EPCOT alone! I'll admit that DHS has gotten al little old, but between EPCOT, MK and AKL they will have PLENTY to do even if they skip all the rides! Do they golf? Can you send them golfing one day to get them out of your hair?:rolleyes1

Working through my checklist for the trip....

Thanks Allison,

Hope you have fun up here, the weather has been so crazy, yesterday we got up to 88 degrees and the high today is 63 degrees and the high tomorrow is 50, there is crazy weather here....

I don't think Kimmar will finish.

I agree with you, I plan on all my time being at EPCOT this trip and theya re worried about 1 day there....

They have decided to spend 1 day at AKL and 1 day EPCOT and they think they will not have enough to keep them entertained.....

I am not sure about Step FIL, if he has ever been to WDW, but my MIL has been a couple of times, she took my DH in the 70 twice and then came in the late 80s with her DH (my DH's father) and then this will be the next time she has been to WDW, first time without her first husband. He died about 9 years ago and she just got married in July.

OK now for more photos and antics that have nothing to do with my upcoming trip.

Do you remember the Super Moon that happened on March 19, well this is a picture from that night taken right in my back yard...

On March 19th, a full Moon of rare size and beauty will rise in the east at sunset. It's a super "perigee moon"--the biggest in almost 20 years.

"The last full Moon so big and close to Earth occurred in March of 1993," says Geoff Chester of the US Naval Observatory in Washington DC. "I'd say it's worth a look."

Full Moons vary in size because of the oval shape of the Moon's orbit. It is an ellipse with one side (perigee) about 50,000 km closer to Earth than the other (apogee): diagram. Nearby perigee moons are about 14% bigger and 30% brighter than lesser moons that occur on the apogee side of the Moon's orbit.

To cake or not to cake....

So I was thinking about getting one of those custom cakes for the kids graduation.

I had seen some pretty cool cakes come out of the bakeries there... and since we are not at BWV we would be super close to the bakery.

So I call the cake hotline just to see what my options are.

BoardWalk Bakery

So I asked the nice CM I was talking to what custom things they could do for graduation? Maybe a mortar board and tassel, diploma? Something to fit in the theme....

She puts me on hold to ask the bakery, they have no ready decorations like that, so all they could do is draw a cap or diploma on the cake, for $30 on a 10" cake. Really i asked.... $30 to draw something on it. She said Yes, unless you go with a bigger cake, and it cost more.

UGHHHHHH

ok, so for a 10 " cake that feeds 16 people, I can get a generic cake, with a drawn cap on it for my kids graduation for $75.00 plus tax, and tip!

If I want one of the fancy cakes, it is based on the design and cost from $100 up....

Well I am almost at the $100 range for a crappy cake as far as I am concerned.

I think I will just let them each get a Small Mickey head cake for $3.99 each!

Brandi, I have been having the same conversation with T about getting Catie a birthday cake. I know I just read it, but can't remember, are you eating in the Poly or GF? I keep hearing about the mini castle cake and the mini wedding cake (which they say is a 1 person, but it is a 4 inch on the bottom and then a littler one on top), they seem to run around 25 or 35. I think I am going to call GF private dining and see if I can find out what they would charge for a 6 inch with the mini castle on top, too, cause I can't find a good price list anywhere. If nothing else I will get her a standard cake, but I'd like to make it a little special...

Kristi is "my friend" I have been talking about but just can't say so I don't ruin the suprise :rolleyes1

After reading everything about the cakes I have not seen many good reviews. Most people complain that is dry and has a bad texture from being frozen or they are still frozen.

Now the reviews I have seen from the custom cakes have been great. But I can't spend fhat kind of money.

Please let me know what you decide.

Brandi, I completely agree. I don't want to pay a small fortune for a frozen cake. I've been reading that you can custom as small as a 6 inch through GF, so I have a call into Pat to get pricing on a 6 inch chocolate cake with bavarian cream filling, vanilla buttercream tinted lime green (of course) and the mini white chocolate castle on it. I'll let you know the price. I have seen several people talking about the mini wedding cake and the mini castle cake, which are custom but are pretty affordable (only through GF too, so at GF or Poly) but not as many flavor options/filling options and also, since we are having her birthday dinner at Kona with T and her kids, if I get a 6 inch we should all be able to have a little bit.

Brandi, my dd Catie keeps jumping into the Dis on her own and figured out how to find the SGC, which is the reason for not mentioning me by name. However, lately, she's kinda forgotten about logging in, and also I keep "forgetting" to print/sign/fax the form so she can post... LOL

I would do that too, but since we are staying at Boardwalk and eating at Jiko for the celebration, I am not sure if I can get one from GF....

I saw some pictures where they had modeled a mortar and tassel from chocolate and had sugar paste diplomas with the graduates name on it. I would have done that, for them, if I could have one for a decent price, and something besides a frozen cake.

I hope if you go with it that it turns out wonderful, for that money it better be....

I make all the cakes here at the house and I guess I know how much they cost for an elaborate cake, and what they are charging for a frozen sara lee is just outrageous...

That is funny....
I have no worries on that front! My family could care less and even looks at me funny when I say something like "Well on the thread I read....." or so and so said the funniest thing, or heaven forbid I LOL.....
