So my DD has me now hooked on the twilight series. Never ever though I would like it. I have just watched the movies, haven't read the books. How are the books compared to the movie? Is it worth reading the books, or are they pretty close to the movie? If I read the books will it spoil the movie? Also, I have to admit I thought the movies were a little "slow" at times, are the books the same way?

Books are 50times better... Not as corny as the movies. There is a lit of repeating in the books, but it held my attention!

Even though I have enjoyed the movies, the books are better. The movies cut a lot out that is in the books.

omg read the boks!! seriously if you liked the movies you will love the books. The movies gloss over so many of the details and miss so much of the deeper plot lines .. at least in my opinion. I love both, but would take the books over the movies any day. I totally get lost in them ... which is sad since I am not in the age bracket they were meant for ;-) However some of the content is a little mature for the age bracket the were written for I think so it balances out.

As someone who loves to read I just could not get into the books at all. Mostly I think it lent to the style of writing, reminded me of very long winded fan fiction.

But the movies on the other hand weren't that bad. For a teen movie they really captured the characters as well as the plot.

I say if you really want to get the WHOLE picture of what the Twilight series is about, go read the books. They're a quick read. All four took me a few days to plow through and they do cover more ground that is not in the movie (which makes sense due to the time restraint).

The books won't spoil anything for you, that is if you don't read the 4th one until the movie comes out.
And as for them being "slow" like the movies, yes they do have their moments.

I wouldn't really recommend the books, but they're a decent time filler.
(Though I do recommend Sookie Stackhouse novels, just not to teens due to their content  )

Out of the two the books are definitely better. I could barely sit through the movies and never bothered to see Eclipse...but I wasn't a huge fan of the books either so I guess that doesn't say much. I only finished the books because my friend lent them all to me and really wanted to talk about them together. I felt bad that I didn't really care for the story like she did, they seemed like a giant copy of the TV series Buffy the Vampire Slayer and the book Tuck Everlasting combined into one.

I "fought" reading the books for a long time..... Finally was convinced and loved them.... I am an addict now....

Loved both. Books are more detailed. At least if you read the books, you can put a face to the characters now that you have seen the movies. I thought Eclipse book was better than the movie. I don't like spoilers but after I read the first three I HAD to read the last! Now I can't wait for the movie.

Books are better, and the movies get better as they go along! The first book was the best of all of them, in my opinion, but they are all good :)

I could have written this myself. I love to read, but didn't get what this whole "twilight phenomenon" was all about. I thought it was silly. I didn't read the books or watch the movies. Then the MIL gave us a copy of "new moon" for Christmas '09, so I picked up a copy of Twilight to read first, then they both just sat around here forever, lol! One day I finally picked it up and started to read, and I could. Not. Put. It. Down. I devoured the whole series in just a few days.
I always feel that things are lost in the book-to-movie translation, and I have the same feelings about this series as well. Honestly, the first time I watched Twilight I thought that if people weren't so passionate about the books, that movie would have bombed. I don't even see how it would make sense to someone who hadn't read the books.:confused3
Anyways, all of that was to say, YES, read the books. If you prefer to watch the movies first, then don't read breaking dawn yet, but definitely read the books. :thumbsup2

Has anyone listened to the audio version? I totally love to read one and have a second on audio:goodvibes So incredibly calming:goodvibes

I've like the movies, even if poor Jake never gets to wear a shirt:blush: and I've tried the books but they never seemed to really catch with me. I think the audio might work... I wonder though f I should keep them for road trips though?

The books ARE better than the movies, but the movies were hysterically awful, so it isn't quite the ringing endorsement.

On the plus side, they are a quick read. SMeyer does have a talent for story. She came up with a very compelling story...I was compelled to see it through even though I didn't like her characters or her writing style.

The Books! I put off seeing Twilight for a whole year because I had my own ideal Edward in my mind, and Robert Pattinson looks nothing like him (Nor does Bella). But the last movie was really good - best of the three I think.
