Turkey Legs - Yummy treat or nasty abomination?

Turkey legs - yummy treat or nasty abomination?

  • Turkey legs - ooooh, turkey legs (Homer voice). Yummy!

  • Turkey legs - eewwwwww. Nastiest stuff this side of a Fear Factor food-eating contest

  • I have no sense of taste and/or smell, so I have no opinion either way

DH says "yummy treat" but the last time we got them, they were pretty fatty and grisly.

After all this voting, it's a tie?!?!? Wow.

Those 12 people who have no sense of smell or taste are the hanging chads of this poll. ;)

They're pretty good, But they actually taste like ham to me...so if you like ham, then you should like them. I always try to go to the Magic Kingdom on my last day @ WDW so I can get one to bring home to my Mom...LOL. :rotfl:

:hmghost: :sulley: :maleficen :chewy:

I voted "Yucky". Could not pay me enough to eat one, let alone actually pay money for one.

something about the hot humid weather combined with the juicey mess from the pink turkey leg ..triggers my gag reflex.

I agree with an earlier poster. Yes, they are an abomination! But I love them anyways. :teeth: They are absolutely huge though :earseek: and it would be nice to have a smaller version. I get self-conscious feeding the entire family off of one, but I'm also one of those people who cannot throw food away, so I have to have them help me. Or course the requirement is, I must have a tasty malt beverage to wash it down. :drinking1

mmmmmmmmmm...YUMMY! :thumbsup2

Much like Spaceship Earth, it is a must do for us at Epcot.

as the previous veggies have said...they r horrible :sad2: !...but if there was a vegitarian equivilant id try it! oh and they should definitly have veggie dogs!

It seems the turkey leg haters have pulled ahead. Ok, you people who have no sense of taste or smell (mustn't that be true of anyone who enjoys turkey legs ;) ), time to make your voice heard in this scientific poll. Speaking of the non-smell and tasters, this pandemic has reach a ghastly number of unlucky 13!

Honestly, we have never tried them. DH wanted to get one so badly on our last trip, but we just never did. We are going to get one on our next trip, for his sake. Personally, I don't think I will want any of it. I do eat chicken and turkey but if it tastes like ham, I don't think I will like it.

I also think they should have veggie dogs at WDW!! MY kids and I love them!! (I refuse to let my kids eat the regular hotdogs..eww!! So we stick to veggie dogs!!!) :)

I voted for EWWWWW!!!! They look under cooked. I try to look the other way when I see someone eating one!

That's because they are not cooked. They are slow smoked at about 200º F. Before they are put in the smoker, the turkey legs are put in a brine solution for about 8 hours to kill bacteria and help in the preservation of the natural meat juices. They are then smoked for 6 to 8 hours until they reach an internal temperature of 165º to 170º F. They are then flash frozen and shipped to WDW.

At WDW they are merely reheated. The reason why some people have described that they taste like ham is due to the hickory smoke that is used. Also the meat is pink because it has not been cooked, but rather smoked.

Yummy treat?.....man that thing is so big its a whole meal! Yummy for me :thumbsup2

DH and I got these for lunch once. Key word, "once". Oh my word, they were the most disgusting things I have ever tried to eat. Gross!!! With an emphasis on greasy gross! Nasty business - never again.

Yuck! Those poor turkeys....all running around without any legs!!! :rotfl2:

I'm surprised the poll is so close. I almost tossed my Mickey Cookies when I tasted a turkey (ham, if you ask me) leg.

I vote EEWWWWWW!

There was a thread similar to this one a while back where I said that although they smelled tempting I wasnt sure if I would ever eat one...well on my recent trip to The World I finally caved and bought one..nothing ventured nothing gained right? WRONG!

I am not the kind of person to raise food up to my face to eat it (I use a knife and for for everything, Im not stuck up or snobby i just hate that feeling of greasyness all over my face) Well lets do some math Turkey leg+ knife & fork = IMPOSSIBLE! I had to fight to get pieces of meat that tasted no better than warmed up leftover canadian bacon ....I mean if the leg would have tasted fantastic it would have been worth the work..but the leg was just "OK" making the effort seem futile I wasnt going to bust my brains to get some mediocre turkey away from that nasty cartilidge...so into the trash went the trukey leg and I happily got a pizza instead.
