TSM - Ride first or Fast Pass first

Strategy for Toy Story Mania

  • Ride TSM first and then grab a fast pass for later

  • Get a fast pass for TSM and then go directly to stand by line

Get that FP right away. It is crazy there and if you wait until you get out of the ride, the line for FP's will be huge. Be at the front of the rope drop (get there early!), get a FP and then get it line. The standby line goes very quick that early in the morning.

if you want to hit TSM RNRC and TOT first thing you're gonna catch a longer line at RNRC if you ride TSM and get a FP. IF you just get the FP go hit RNRC then ride TSM and get another FP it seems like you could ride TSM twice and RNRC once with very little wait.

The lines for the TSM fast pass first thing in the morning :scared1:

Normally we go for: collect FP, then ride, then get another FP, so usually ride 3 times.
However, next time, we're gonna try the ride first, then get FP. If it works out better, we'll stick to that option.

Was there Tuesday May 5th. We were very close to the rope drop, 2-3 people deep and walked to TSMM and rode right away. We walked quick but not too quick because we had older people and young kids in our group. We did get passed by people running to catch up to the CM. We were out of the ride by 9:16 am. I did not think it was that quick but my daugther took a picture after the ride and the fastpass entrance time was in the picture. Then we got FPs, there was no line, for a return time of 11:15am.

This worked for us.

We were there on 5/10 arrived around noon as we had done AK in the morning and all the fast passes were already gone for the day. The line was an 80 minute wait every time we walked by. Finally around 8pm when people were heading over to Fantasmic the wait dropped down to 30 minutes which only took 15 minutes.

We found lots of the hidden easter eggs thanks to someone posting the utube video and we had downloaded it to our iphone so we just watched it while waiting in line so we knew exactly where to shoot. WDW really needs to add single rider lines here like they do at DL.

They used to have a single riders line, but the waits were just as long so they stopped it.

We just recently went and tried the FP first, then get in line. By the time we got our FP, the standby line was 50 minutes!!!

So we left the standby line, went to Muppets, then rode in the FP line.

We just got back yesterday from a week at WDW and we rode TSM 8 times! We never waited longer than 20 min to ride. Our strategy was that my DD18 made her way as close as she could to the rope and got to TSM quickly and picked up our fast passes. By the time her DD and I got to the stand by line she was already there with her FPs. We did this twice at RD and it worked like a charm. At EMH we were able to ride 3xs in a row using the stand by line and never waited more than 20 min. We found EMH at all the parks to be empty as most folks seem to be staying off site or just be visiting for a day.

Depends on how bad the lines are for getting the FPs.

Assuming they are bad (which is more likely to be the case), I would ride first, then get the FP.

The standby line should be shorter than it will be if it's after I get the FP.

The wait to get the FP should be less if I wait until after I ride than if I try to get the FP first thing.

With this strategy, I stand in a shorter line two times (hopefully!).

I'll second that. Seems like the best bet to me. And I use the same plan in Epcot for Soarin' as well. Works for me.

We went on May 6. Made sure to be there before opening, made our way to the ride. Went in the standby line-the time said 20 minutes-was less than 10. By the time we got off the ride the lines for the FP were gone so we picked up a few for later. By the time we used our FP all the FP for the day were gone.

The line moves quickly and the times posted are not always accurate. I will definitely get in the stand-by line then get FP the next time I go.

We're going in a few days. We're planning on splitting our party. DH gets FP while me and the boys get in line.

We have not yet ridden TSM but when we do, we will go with option number two. We also do that with Buzz Lightyear and Soarin'.

I have to say, if I thought I would have enjoyed TSm as much as I did, I woulda went with either of the options. I only FP and then rode at my FP time and didn't bother to get another as FP return time was like 5 hours away. I really loved the ride--thought it was so much fun!
