TSA is allowing Chapstick!

However, please be aware that chapstick / lip balms are not permitted on international flights leaving the UK to the US still - but this is expected to be relaxed later this week.

I guess the TSA higher ups negected to tell their agents at MDW that small amounts of non prescription drugs and lip balms were allowed. I lost a tiny bottle of nasal spray and my eye wetting drops and a friend lost lip balm.

Thank heavens. I'm not planning on flying anytime soon, but not being able to take my chapstick could be a deal breaker.

For the time being I suggest on the DAY of your flight you go to TSA.gov and PRINT EVERYTHING and then be prepared to lose.

I am not going to fight them on this mess but if you want to you need the website data.

(I have a coworker who has carried it for years over the TSA agents who still think corkscrews and nail files are dangerous items. Granted there is a corkscrew on EVERY plane in first class, but....)

Ditto, I said it many times yesterday - your YMMV. It all depends on the TSA/CATSA agent you encounter. (Luckily I fly so much and usually on the same flight that my local airport CATSA folks know me VERY well - pretty sad)

I go back to my knitting needle example - try and bring them on board while leaving Canada - CATSA says 'ok', Air Canada and Lufthansa say 'no way', yet many CATSA agents aren't aware that the rule changed May 2005. So don't expect to keep your chapstick - it all depends.

I want my chapstick and I want my lens rewetting drops too (stomping my feet on the ground)!! I know I sound like a spoiled brat but those are the 2 things that make me happy on a flight. I know I will have to do without so I will have to suck it up, but I don't have to be happy about it.

I totally understand why they are doing this so I guess I would rather be safe than sorry and comfortable. I am just packing everything in our check in luggage and we aren't even bringing any electronic things so we don't risk losing them. We will get back to the basics with magazines, puzzles books and good old reading. It could be worse, we could have a much longer flight. I am sure we will be fine.

My computer (Jurassic model) froze up while trying to even view the darn list yesterday, so I can't even fall back on that! It's in the back of my mind that the agents may still confiscate my chapstick, but at least now I don't feel like a criminal for just bringing it! I'm going to look for an old/mostly used-up one, so I won't regret the loss so much if they do have me toss it.
