Trying to decide about MVMCP

We will be me, DH, DS23, DS18 and DD15. Is this something I should plan for, since we will be there at a time when it is possible to go? I can find the money, so that isn't really the decision maker. But, is it more geared to small kids? I don't know if my kids would want to see the shows or anything. I do know that if it was just a packed in like sardines mob scene, my DH would not like it at all. I would love to see snow on mainstreet, but I just can't decide if we should do it or not. Anyone ever done it, and wish they hadn't? Thanks!

I have been to MVMCP 3 times since 2000 and will be going again in December. When we've gone it's been DH (41) and I (33) and his parents (64). We love it!!! We don't see a lot of the shows, but love the atmosphere, parade, fireworks, hot choco/cookies, and especially snow on main street. Be sure to get the complimentary picture and use it as a family photo. We have not had a problem with crowds, but we try to plan to go on a weeknight as opposed to a weekend.

Go, it will be fun!

As i said on a previous post: Think of Spring Break on steroids. The first 5 years were wonderful but now for me it is not worth doing. A lot of visitors will say it's worth it and maybe it is but not for me.

Here's the way I look at it: MVMCP is great *in place* of a day at the parks. MVMCP is just kinda OK *in addition to* a day at the parkes.

As for crowds, there just aren't that many people in the park, but the tend to get clumpy. If it's ever crowded in one spot, it's near empty someplace else.

We love MVMCP, we will do it for the 4th year in a row this year. Its a must do in our book. Its a great way to ride the rides that you miss out on a park day, see some neat shows. Plus there is a special Holiday Wishes :)

DF and I went this past year for the first time, so my opinion may be a bit tainted...But, we LOVED it!! We couldn't say more wonderful thigns about it. The cookies were good, the cocoa was good and hot (though a liitle weak for my taste!) and we had a great time. We waited only about 10 minutes max for all of the rides and it just seemed to be so "Christmasy" (if that is a word) to me.

I absolutely loved it and had a wonderful time!!!

I am going this December and I have a few questions about it. My dh and I are going and our in-laws will be there to help watch the kids. They are too young to really enjoy MVMCP (I think) but maybe it is worth it for DH and I to go alone on one of our "kid-free" nights!

Are all the rides in the MK open late or just the "big" ones?

Do they have the Spectromagic parade or a special XMas parade?

Any other details would be great!

We went two nights in 2003. It was earlier in the month of December and not crowded at all. It was in place of doing a park those days. They let us in early, around 4:00. While they were clearing everybody out, we had to wait in Tomorrowland and that was pretty crowded. We just hung out close to FantasyLand and when that opened we hit all the rides with no wait at all. We were walking on all of them. There are lots of charcters to see if you are into that. We did not see any shows, but mainly enjoyed the quick lines. I think we only stayed until about 10:00. Some of the rides were not open, like Jungle Cruise, I think. But most were. We would do it again. The parade was the Christmas parade that you see on TV.

We went this past Christmas and I'd give it mixed reviews. We went on a Sunday, so it was likely more crowded than the weekday runs. The shows and parade and such were nice, as were the cocoa and cookies, but I must admit that I do not like MK after dark. It feels too much like my old boardwalk amusement park days, and much of the magic is lost (except for Spectromagic and Wishes).

We did go in lieu of anything else that day, so went into the park at 4pm and stayed very late, which was nice, since we got a good park day without a true park ticket. We struck out on even finding the picture place though, which was very much a bummer.

All in all, we would do it again if it was during the week or in lieu of an actual park day, but we likely wouldn't do it again the way we did in December 2005...

We went to MVMCP December 9th of 2004 (a Thursday) and I think it was worth it just for the Christmas parade and Holiday Wishes, but I was very disappointed in how crowded it was. You literally could not move on Main Street and there was not even a half an inch of space left a good hour before the parade if you wanted a seat on Main Street. Even Liberty Square and Frontierland were crowded for the parade. The Christmas show in Tomorrowland was so packed there wasn't even standing room! I might have been ok if I was expecting the crowds, but all I ever heard was how nice MVMCP was because of the light crowds, so I was really taken by surprise.
I didn't even get a MVMCP party pin because the lines in the shops were so long! I'm glad I got to go to an MVMCP once, but I wouldn't do it again.

Thank you all for your responses! I still am not sure whether to go or not. I think I'll have to run this by the family, and see what they want to do. (I am making all the other decisions...so I guess I can let them make one! :lmao: )

If my math is right, judging by your ticker, it looks like you will be there the first week in December. During that time, the MVMCP shows, parades, etc. can not be seen any where else. We went on 12/18 last year and thought it was a complete waste of money since all the events were available during normal park hours.

It's good to see this in print. I thought the shows and parades were ONLY during MVMCP. We'll be there the first week of December and have never been, all the more reason we are planning to attend.

What days does the party run.. we are there from Nov 27-Dec7 what are our chances in being able to attend a party when we are there? THanks

There will surely be a party during the time you are there. We have been during the week after Thanksgiving the last three years. During that week it does not seem to be as crowded as later in the month when the tickets sell out. We really enjoy it, as a start to the holiday season.

I think it depends on what day you go on. We went on a Sunday, and it was SO crowded! It was pretty much mayhem. I will never do it again. I wasn't really impressed with the "snow" on Main St., you can barely see it. The snow at the Osbourne Lights display is much better. And we never made it to Hot Chocolate or pictures, the lines were WAY too long. So, basically, we paid a fortune for the parade, which I thought was pretty similar to Spectro, minus Santa. Had we ventured off a little more, I think we may have found that it was less crowded in other areas of the park. But it was bumper to bumper and I wasn't about to fight that kind of crowd to find out. But this was just my experience.

MVMCP is an awesome time to catch those rides which are normally crowded and have long lines. We did not have a wait, at all for any rides when we went (we me34, df 29). the cookies and hot choclate are a nice touch. Someone said something about leaving the kids home...it is still nice without kids.

If anyone likes rare photo ops, it is a good time to go also because there are less people in the park. I got an awesome shot of the castle, Walt statue, and Christmas tree all together!

ENJOY!
