OK let me start by saying that this is not a negative report, but it does have a few negative issues in it. Left CT. on 12/26 @ 7;30 P.M. breezed through N.Y-N.J-and all the rest of the way down to HH Made our favorite stop @old sheldon church ruins in Yemmassee Sc and then arrived @ HH @10;30 A.M Paying cash member discount. Room was ready, had asked for a pool view but they said they were 99% full OK? not to many cars or people around everyone must of flew in? Now a ? If paying cash I thought you get daily housekeeping? We did'nt! It was nice weather 70's walked the beach the beach house itself was empty!did the outlet thing 2 thumbs down nothing like the orlando outlets. Ate at the outback, most of the other places can keep their high priced small portion meals! next night ate at fudgeruckers everyone enjoyed that very much! Left for OKW 12/29@ 9;00A.M Let the FUN begin After Savanah stop and go traffic for 3 hours!!!!! needless to say we arrived at OKW @ 6:00 P.M. 9 HOURS LATER!!!!! CHECK IN at OKW only request N/S and not miiler rd! SURPRISE! what do we get bldg.19 smoking! Again can we go anywhere but there NOPE the dreded 99% answer! I acted dissapointed VERY! the CM asked do you ever get your request and i replied NOPE not in my 20 odd something stays here! OH I'm sooooooo sorry she says, Let me give you a little bit of advice she says! Call 5-7 days before your arrival and ask to talk to the room assigner and 99% of the time a member will get his or her request, Disney must have a copyright on that 99% thing! Room 1921 a 1 bdrm. overlooking the pool, that was nice! but the smoke smell was choking! Wife has asthma called the front desk 99% yada yada yada they will send someone over You all know the rest of the story WE made the best of it! Weather was a 10+ 80's everyday 60's @ night, Parks FORGET IT! I'm 6'1" 280 and i was bopped around like a ball in a pinball machine. Spent a lot of time eating, I.E that's why I'm 280! Trails end buffet 10+ cape may buffet a 7( not a big selection,price) 1900 park fare buffet 10+ and Bomas a 10++++++++ anyone see a trend here! Switched to BCV on 1/2 for one night in a 1 bdrm. no request but got probably one of the worst rooms as far as i could tell, 4th floor near the stairs overlooking the parking lot! At that point i just looked at my wife and laughed I will say though although I love all the DVC resorts, at BCV the four of us always seemed to be bumping into each other ALOT in the room! That is something we never have a problem with at OKW! all in all we had alot of family fun! Left 1/3 for home @ 11;00 A.M and that traffic from road work before Savanah UGH! 23 hours later back home! Oh well only 24 days before our next trip VWL 2 bdrm 8 nights, flying this time! can't wait!

I was just curious, you mentioned your wife has asthma....did you request a non-smoking room for medical reasons? I'm wondering how many times medical requests can't be filled. Thanks

Getting the room we want seems to be one of life's great mysteries. That's great the CM said to call the room controller -- everything coming out of DVC is telling us to stop doing that.

I know that it is very difficult to move you around during Christmas Week. Many people check-in right around Christmas Day and then stay put for the week. There's not much flexibility mid-week. I know one year my requests got misinterpreted and when the CM tried to find a solution the next day there really wasn't much he could do about it. Almost every room was filled and some of the options were even worse than what I had.

FYI -- when you are using the cash member discount you get the same housekeeping as when staying on points.

I'm glad you had a great time despite the disappointment in the room. Wouldn't you rather be back down there today than enjoying our "winter wonderland"?

No stimpy we did not make it a medical request I hate to be that demanding we usually never have a problem with that part of the request! And pam thanks for letting me know about the housekeeping rule! Funny though I paid $125.00 for a 2 bdrm. which I thought was a good deal! I found out later that I could of got a $99.00 rate through Disney visa and would of had housekeeping everynight. GO FIGURE

Boy am I glad I added the "medical needs" part to our reservation. Hope it works for us...and I don't think you're being needy if you ask for it, either. I still believe that should be as sure a room request as "2 queen beds" or "lockoff".

In the past, I never put med. need for us. Granted, I did have asthma as a youth and we do have a dd predisposed to pneumonia (gets it every xmas... so we don't travel at xmas anymore!) Plus, I (and my family) would be absolutely sickened by the stale odor smell of a smoking room. (Does "disgust" count as a medical condition?)

What really made me change our next ressie to "medical need" a few days ago was the fact we're taking my BIL/SIL and their 2 boys with us, and one son (an infant) just had heart surgery. I wouldn't want anything to compromise my godson and his first trip to the World!

Sorry your trip wasn't the best of times -- that xmas "snowbird/bowlgame" traffic towards Jacksonville / Orlando can be a KILLER. Roadwork certainly doesn't help. I really hope your visit to VWL is, in contrast, ABSOLUTELY PERECT!

(PS -- have you called MS to have "MEDICAL NEED" added to that ressie yet?!)
