Trip of Extremes and Dreams! Tons of Pics! 11/30 -12/10 Update Highlight to the End

Somewhere during our time at Polynesian I called my boyfriend and told him about the sweatshirt, first thing he said, "another one?" :rotfl: Mickey and I just had to match in our Santa hats :upsidedow

We sat in the lobby for quite some time, just taking in our first day at Disney, avoiding eye contact with the DVC-seller three feet away and eventually wandered by Captain Cooks, which used to be one of my favorite places to eat! When I was younger we stayed at the Polynesian many times and it was there I could encourage my love for french toast sticks some more! :lmao:

It was around sunset so all the lamps were lit outside along the garden pathways, it's just beautiful :cloud9: You feel transported. This here is what I love so much about the Polynesian.

I'm JUST catching up with your TR and I'm having so much fun reading it! :goodvibes . You're making me feel bad that I didn't take as many pictures, haha.

And I have my own gingerbread surf shack at the Polynesian! :rotfl:

Hello! Just joined your trip report. Great pictures! My family was there Nov 27th-Dec 7th.

Catching up with your TR ... :thumbsup2

This is our 9th day back from WDW ... :sad2: (and, no - I'm not going to start a "reverse coundown" ... "count up"?)

We had dinner in the GF - the Gingerbread House and Tree were incredible!! Was the band playing (on the balcony overlooking the lobby) while you were there?

Great staircase pictures ... (new and old ...)

The Polynesian!

I have to tell you, I have broncitis (again!) and am on a ton of different meds and they are all making me feel a bit wooky, so if I say anything odd .... well, you're used to me and probably won't notice! :rotfl2:

Even before I read it, I was thinking "How would we know the difference?" :rotfl: LYMI!!!

Hope you are feeling better!

I think Figment has more sweatshirts than I do and I LIVE in Minnesota! (boy, do we need them today!)

Are those gingerbread decorations at the Poly made by non- bakery CM's? I love to see how creative "normal" people can be.

CONTEMPORARY

After walking around the Poly and enjoying it, we again jumped on the monorail and went to the Contemporary. It looked so beautiful and brought back a lot of good memories. We stayed here for DD’s first Disney vacation when she was three and had so much fun.

We found this monorail tree in one of the stores!

100_4072.jpg

The lobby there is one of my most favorite on all of Disney property!

I fell in love with this light fixture. I want one for over my dining room table. Of course, that would mean redecorating my whole house ....

100_4023.jpg

I got a kick of our seeing the Wave, where the old food court had been. DD had discovered a love of French Toast sticks there and wanted them every single day, for every meal, for years! Every morning at Disney, she would wake up, not ask about which park we were going to, just if she could have French Toast Sticks!!

100_4073.jpg

We walked around for a bit and people watched and soon it was time for our reservation for Chef Mickey’s.

100_4080.jpg

To be continued ........ NOW

CHEF MICKEY'S!!!

I was unsure about this meal, but agreed to do it for DD. I had heard that the food was pretty rotten, the place was crazy with wild kids, and incredibly noisy.

In line we ran into a Diser! SunnyStace and her friend. It was great. She was staying at POFQ for the same dates that we were. We talked about our vacations and about the DIS. We also sorta giggled at the slowest woman in the world who was in front of us. The line would move up and she’d stand still. Forever. Soon the line was almost at check-in but she refused to move. I wanted to go ahead of her just on principal and she finally moved.

We checked in and got our pager and waited in the lobby for about twenty minutes. This was their display and we just loved it.

We skipped the picture and had a great table in the main dining room. Well, my worst fears of Chef Mickey’s were proven wrong. The food was very good, the kids were mostly well behaved and totally fun to watch, and the noise level was fine.

100_4084.jpg

It was interesting to see the differences in the tables on either side of us, though. On the right were three boys, probably ages between 6 to 10 and they were just darling. They danced and waved their napkins, talked with the characters and one of the boys blushed a hundred shades of red when Minnie kissed him! They were super great and just added fun to everyone's meal around them. On the left were two little girls, 5 and 6, who were completely obnoxious. They wouldn’t stay on their chairs, eat anything, kept knocking things over. Their parents were worse, insisting that the oldest daughter take a picture of each character with “her own camera” even though she didn’t want to.

We were seated at a table for four, which was really nice. When there are just two adults in your party, you never know what type of table you're going to get. We got a few tiny tables last year. I had my back to the banquet and DD was first to see the characters. I got up to pose with them, which was fun.

We saw Pluto, who is always so great.

100_4031.jpg

Then came Goofy.

100_4040.jpg

Now this was interesting. The obnoxious little girl on our left saw Goofy before we did. She was intent on pulling off his glove and he had to truly struggle to keep it on. I was appalled at this behavior and the way the parents didn’t correct them at all. I guess it showed on my face, without my knowledge, because when Goofy came to me for a picture, he hugged me really tight and squeezed my shoulder a few times. DD even asked me if he whispered to me when he left. No, he didn’t but we did have a “moment”.

100_4041.jpg

After those visits, we went to the buffet. It was the standard buffet food, but it was good. One disappointment was they took out all the prime rib on all the buffet's and replaced it with some sort of roast beef thing. Good but not the same. The dessert’s looked amazing.

100_4030.jpg

100_4033.jpg

Next was Mickey!

100_4034.jpg

100_4035.jpg

And then Minnie ....... by the way, we have some interesting gossip about these two to be reported later on our Christmas party day!!!!!!!

100_4042.jpg

Then we had time to get dessert. Delicious! The Oreo domes, or whatever they’re called, were just incredible! And if anyone remembers from my last TR, my taste buds couldn’t handle anything sweet, I was pleased that I could eat those! Very yummy!!

100_4038.jpg

I think it was DD's favorite part!!

100_4039.jpg

Next was the singing and napkin waving! (We giggled about food flying everywhere from out of the napkins!!)

100_4037.jpg

And then Donald came, who was so much fun.

100_4045.jpg

100_4044.jpg

We took the Monorail back to MK and got a bus to our resort. It looked amazing all lit up at night and we were so happy we chose POFQ again. It truly is perfect.

It was early but I needed my rest, so DD took a walk around the resort. I think I caught a rerun of Y&R! :happytv:

It took a long time to get to sleep that night for both of us. We were both so excited about tomorrow and still letting go of reality. It had been a very hard year for us with a lot of illness and the loss of our beloved Diva and we were both looking forward to trying to leave all of that behind us and slip right into the Disney bubble.

Tomorrow was going to be brilliant!

I'm already wishing I took more pictures. It's hard when you go time after time, isn't it, to know what to take. I wish that was always my problem!

We thought your gingerbread surf shack was the most groovy!!

Hummm, shopping at the Ploy.... sounds good to me! :)

ok, make that Ploy the POLY!!! I can spell! :lmao:

:rotfl: Don't you hate when you do that?

Hello! Just joined your trip report. Great pictures! My family was there Nov 27th-Dec 7th.

Thanks!! I'm so glad you posted.

We didn't see the band playing on the balcony at the GF, but the piano player was just incredible and we loved her.

I'm feeling much better and getting really bratty about taking my medicine! NO MORE! :rotfl2:

I think Figment has more hoodies than anyone! And you should see all the blankets on her bed and in her room. I'll sneak in and take some pictures when I do the holiday tour with the Beast!!

Did you notice I used the word "whilst"? Just for you and Harry Potter!! :rotfl2:
I'm teaching you all very well aren't I :rotfl2:

They had handmade set ups of different items made of chocolate and candy. It wasn't as "professional" as GF, but there was something so sweet about it. We just loved it.
They look really sweet, I wish I'd have popped in there on my way to the GF now!

Well, my worst fears of Chef Mickey’s were proven wrong. The food was very good, the kids were mostly well behaved and totally fun to watch, and the noise level was fine.
I'm so pleased for you, the little girl sounds horrid though!

No, he didn’t but we did have a “moment”.
Oooohhhh :rotfl2:

I haven't been to Chef Mickey's in YEARS! I originally planned on it as a back up for Le Cellier, in case I didn't get my ADR. After looking at that dessert, I'm definately going to make one next time!

I'm always afraid to go to a place with the napkin waving. I'd be too nervous about getting crumbs and greasy chewed up bits in my hair! :rotfl:

We've never been to Chef Mickey's, but we've got ADRs for breakfast for our May trip!! Looks like you all had a great time.

Chef Mickey's was such fun, although I don't think the food was anything out of this world, the dessert was especially good! :rotfl2: I loved everything on my plate, especially the flourless chocolate brownie/cake and Mickey-Oreo tarts.

It was very neat running into another Diser! Hey, SunnyStace if you're out there reading! They had spent part of the day at Magic Kingdom and told us how empty the park was......well, it was the exact opposite the rest of the week! :rotfl:

When we got back to POFQ around 8:30 that night, I spent an hour or so just walking along the river and pathways between the buildings. You could hear the Christmas music all around :cloud9: The resort itself seemed busy, lots of families in the pool and in the lobby. I spent some time in Jackson Square and then it took me several hours to get to sleep because I was so excited for our first park day!

EWWWW...I never thought of the food bits flying out the of the napkins.
E-W-W-W-W! Umm...thanks for that thought. :lmao: :rotfl2: :rotfl:

I love the picture of Figment with Pluto, it's just adorable! I also love the one of your "special moment" with Goofy. Both of those are adorable! And that monorail tree....do you have any more pictures of it? I would love to see them if you do. I LOVE THAT MONORAIL TREE...even more than the grand tree at the GF. OH SWEET NIBLETS, I need a giant monorail tree! :thumbsup2 :lmao: Seriously though, how neat that was. Thank you for showing me!

Hugs to both of you.

Ohh, I am so glad I found your TR! It is a good thing I was subscribed to your PTR and went back to it...I was wondering if you had started! You are off to a great start and I am loving your pictures. POFQ looks beautiful all decorated for Christmas. Can't wait for more!

Oooohhhh :rotfl2:

One of my favorite things to do at Disney is kid watch. The look of excitement and wonder in their eyes, the laughter and complete belief is so heartwarming. Until you see the horrid ones!!

I know, really, the idea of the food and "other things" flying out of napkins .... :scared1:

No, we don't have any more pictures of the monorail tree -- I wish we did. It was truly amazing and so cool.

Hugs back at ya and to the kids and the hubby!

Thanks, toocherie and welcome!!

Okay everyone, I have to share the grossest story ever!!!!!! I have to -- I have no choice. I am still horrified hours later.

I went to the grocery store tonight and stopped at the pharmacy to get Sudafed (we have to get it there in case we've got a meth lab at home!!) and a lady cut in front of me. The pharmacist didn't realize it and waited on her. Well .... her prescription was $200+ AFTER insurance. It was over $900 without. The reason?? SHE HAD FLESH EATING BACTERIA!!!!!!!!!!!! :scared1:  :headache:   :scared1: :scared1: :scared1:

I moved down the counter immediately!!!!! The lady went on and on about her open sore on her foot and how it wasn't oooozzzzing that much anymore!! She also explained how she didn't like taking the first antibiotic they gave her so she only took it once a day and didn't really believe she had that!!

EWWWWWWWWWWWWWWW

I am still in shock and had to share!! I know that you are all glad that I did!!! That is my Christmas Eve Eve gift to you!!!!!

Ewwww!! Flesh-eating bacteria? Wow! At least it is no longer oozing from her FOOT! That's a relief! :rotfl2: :rotfl2: :rotfl2:

Thanks for sharing! Merry Christmas to Heidi and Figment!
