CHEF MICKEY'S!!!
I was unsure about this meal, but agreed to do it for DD. I had heard that the food was pretty rotten, the place was crazy with wild kids, and incredibly noisy.
In line we ran into a Diser! SunnyStace and her friend. It was great. She was staying at POFQ for the same dates that we were. We talked about our vacations and about the DIS. We also sorta giggled at the slowest woman in the world who was in front of us. The line would move up and she’d stand still. Forever. Soon the line was almost at check-in but she refused to move. I wanted to go ahead of her just on principal and she finally moved.
We checked in and got our pager and waited in the lobby for about twenty minutes. This was their display and we just loved it.
We skipped the picture and had a great table in the main dining room. Well, my worst fears of Chef Mickey’s were proven wrong. The food was very good, the kids were mostly well behaved and totally fun to watch, and the noise level was fine.
It was interesting to see the differences in the tables on either side of us, though. On the right were three boys, probably ages between 6 to 10 and they were just darling. They danced and waved their napkins, talked with the characters and one of the boys blushed a hundred shades of red when Minnie kissed him! They were super great and just added fun to everyone's meal around them. On the left were two little girls, 5 and 6, who were completely obnoxious. They wouldn’t stay on their chairs, eat anything, kept knocking things over. Their parents were worse, insisting that the oldest daughter take a picture of each character with “her own camera” even though she didn’t want to.
We were seated at a table for four, which was really nice. When there are just two adults in your party, you never know what type of table you're going to get. We got a few tiny tables last year. I had my back to the banquet and DD was first to see the characters. I got up to pose with them, which was fun.
We saw Pluto, who is always so great.
Then came Goofy.
Now this was interesting. The obnoxious little girl on our left saw Goofy before we did. She was intent on pulling off his glove and he had to truly struggle to keep it on. I was appalled at this behavior and the way the parents didn’t correct them at all. I guess it showed on my face, without my knowledge, because when Goofy came to me for a picture, he hugged me really tight and squeezed my shoulder a few times. DD even asked me if he whispered to me when he left. No, he didn’t but we did have a “
moment”.
After those visits, we went to the buffet. It was the standard buffet food, but it was good. One disappointment was they took out all the prime rib on all the buffet's and replaced it with some sort of roast beef thing. Good but not the same. The dessert’s looked amazing.
Next was Mickey!
And then Minnie ....... by the way, we have some interesting gossip about these two to be reported later on our Christmas party day!!!!!!!
Then we had time to get dessert. Delicious! The Oreo domes, or whatever they’re called, were just incredible! And if anyone remembers from my last TR, my taste buds couldn’t handle anything sweet, I was pleased that I could eat those! Very yummy!!
I think it was DD's favorite part!!
Next was the singing and napkin waving! (We giggled about food flying everywhere from out of the napkins!!)
And then Donald came, who was so much fun.
We took the Monorail back to MK and got a bus to our resort. It looked amazing all lit up at night and we were so happy we chose POFQ again. It truly is perfect.
It was early but I needed my rest, so DD took a walk around the resort. I think I caught a rerun of Y&R!
It took a long time to get to sleep that night for both of us. We were both so excited about tomorrow and still letting go of reality. It had been a very hard year for us with a lot of illness and the loss of our beloved Diva and we were both looking forward to trying to leave all of that behind us and slip right into the Disney bubble.
Tomorrow was going to be brilliant!
