I bought
DVC so that I can experience the "magic" more. I did not buy into DVC so someone can tell me that I get what I get and should be happy to get it.
I don't expect every request to be filled; I do expect the staff to at least try to accommodate me and my family. To date, I can say that on each Disney trip they have done so and many more times then not, the CM's go more then out of their way to make sure we are happy. That is why I continue to visit WDW.
While I am the first person to be just as polite and respectful to CM's as can be, there has been a time where a CM has not shown the same in return. Personally I tend to in a situation like this deal with the person in the same manner as they are treating me with the person I am having the issue with then we can get the manager and finish the conversation if need be. You may tend to handle this differently.
I really don't care if I am at Wal-Mart or Disney or wherever, I will not be treated or spoken to in an unprofessional manner.
With that being said, we should all try to be as pleasant to CM's as we would like to be treated. However, contrary to popular belief around here, not every Disney CM is perfect nor is every DVC member so to lump all DVC members as jerks or all CM's as jerks is ridiculous.
I can not stress enough that all should treat the CMs politely, but like it or not, it is their job so to make us (yes even DVC members are customers) fell as the movies says be our guest. At the same time, this does not give anyone a license to treat them badly when unwarranted.
As Grandma used to say "Be Sweet" and most of the problems on both sides will go away.
Here is how I handle and view my requests.
Non-Smoking room request. A must. Medical Reasons and a doctor note is brought saying such. If no NS rooms are available, find me a room elsewhere until one is. Non-Negotiable. Put us in a Smoking room and be prepared to call Disney EMS to bring us to the hospital. I make this request when I reserve and call the resort a few days before we arrive just to verify.
Non-HA rooms. I request not to get them, but if I do, oh well, I am at WDW.

There is much better things to be doing then hanging around in the room.
Specific View. Personally if I get a great view, I feel like I have lucked up. But if I get a view of the parking lot, I think to myself how wonderful the cars like at WDW versus what they look like at my job.
But agian, as Grandma used to say "Be Sweet" and most of the problems on both sides will go away.
If you dont like my views and want to flame go ahead, I dont care.
You wont change my mind, my opinion, or my actions and I will still sleep like a baby every night.
My 2 cents.
