Travels With Teens: Take Two “I Can Organize This Trip in My Sleep!”BC Dee in DC Roti & Fini p. 40

Yummy looking snacks. Oh to be young and have good metabolism!

The synchronized swim routine looked cute. My grandkids used that little splash pad in 2012 when they were three and one. Geez, where does the time go?

I LOVE that the boys did a synchronized swim routine!!!
::yes::

RnR was Nate's threshold coaster. Once he rode that, there is not a coaster he is afraid of trying.

Do you get the chance to ride anything fast and furious at Universal when you go?

:car:

It was a memorable concert. At least for my brother and me. Not so much for Steven Tyler!

:faint:
Brandon (DS15) is the only one who rides the big rides. However my Bree (DD8) loves them! Unfortunately, she's only 49 inches so at Universal she's very limited. Brandon and I did Rip ride rockit. I picked MC Hammer's Can't touch this and I still can't listen to that song without remembering screaming my head off on that ride ;) The girls LOVED the Mummy and Gringotts :)

The kids splash pad looks like it has a Frozen theme. It also looks incredibly boring. ;)

While I was out at the pool, I was treated to a synchronized swimming routine.
Were any of the boys on the swim team at school or were they just being silly?

My college required the liberal arts majors to take 6 hours of physical education, so I took a course that included six weeks of synchronized swimming. The most I remember about it was how hard it was to keep water from going up my nose. ;)

I will never understand how boys eat. I mean, I get that a lot of boys that age are active and growing and need extra nutrition, but ... how can they eat so much ice cream and cake and stuff like that without gaining any weight at all??

Synchronized swimming is always fun. Or at least entertaining. I hope you enjoyed the show!

Great snack choices!

Looks like a great time at the pool. I wish I was a chaperone at Disney lol.

Loving all the latest updates. Sorry I haven't been chatting much. Life is busy as always but I love reading along and always mean to comment then something happens and I never quite seem to make it back! Today however I'm sitting in Copenhagen lounging about in club level drinking hot chocolate and catching up on dis time :). Love that you got a little swimming practice in :)

Funny to think we are both visiting universities with our boys. Keeping my fingers crossed for Nate that he gets his first choice :)

Oh my gosh, I couldn't help but giggle at your Aerosmith story. I can just imagine how excited you and your brother were to be going to the concert. All that build up, and then....nothing.:rotfl:

I must never have paid attention, but I wasn't aware you could make an ice cream cookie sandwich at ASMo. That's information I'd wished I known 3 years ago.

Isn't it crazy how much teenage boys can eat? I grew up with two brothers, and I swear, they'd raid the kitchen and eat a whole container of cookies and I'd be the one to gain the weight.:rotfl2:

That splash pad looks so lonely. I cannot believe there wasn't one toddler around who wasn't playing in it. Those things are like magnets for little kids. (Speaking from experience.)

Sounds like it was a fun afternoon, swimming in the pool and getting the synchronized swimming show.

I know! I used to have that metabolism. I could eat whatever I wanted and not gain any weight. I still eat a lot more than I should, but not without caloric consequences.

The boys had no embarrassment sharing their routine with the others at the pool.

Glad to hear the splash pad got some use. Sad to hear about the speed of your grandkids growing up.

:goodvibes:

A couple of the boys have been involved with Ben in theatre and the other boys were along for the ride.

Good for you for braving Rip Ride Rockit! My favorite ride was a night ride where I selected a secret track: The Rainbow Connection, but on a couple of subsequent rides, I haven't been able to activate the secret tracks.

Your girls have great taste. The Mummy is my favorite theme park ride!

It does fit in with Frozen, but as Annie points out and I saw from our 2012 class trip stay at ASMo, the splash pad was there before the movie was released.

Just being silly.

However, some of them did perform in the annual talent show with a synchronized swimming routine. I don't have video of their performance, but it was based on this video from the internet

Ahem! You apparently "forgot" to let us know that you have synchronized swimming experience! We really (really) could use your talent on our team. We will save a swim cap for you for next time.

That might be one of my 3 wishes from Genie- eat as much as I want without gaining weight.

:genie:

It really was entertaining. I was very impressed with the lack of self-consciousness from a group of 14 year old boys.

::yes::

It's magic pixiedust:

Enjoy it!!! What are your other two wishes???

:goodvibes:

It all did look yummy- I would lean towards the ice cream treats and my go-to snack is the :mickeybar

I am very fortunate that I was able to participate in the class trips with both of my boys.

:thumbsup2

Not even the big kids????

Not the ones I was watching.

:rotfl2: What is it with you and synchronized swimming? You can't have a trip without it in some form, can you?

I'll have to warn Mark that we are obligated to participate in some synchronized swimming activity while on our anniversary trip in October.

::yes::

Oh yeah... this is almost as bad as being curled up in a corner in DHS, isn't it?

The horror!

:scared1:

That has been happening to me quite a lot. I'll read but something comes up that distracts me. But we know where to find each other if we need to.

I guess with my previous synchronized swim team experience, I could act as coach for the boys.

Good luck with your university searches. Nate has been accepted to his top two choices, University of New Hampshire and University of Maine. The campus and reputation of both of the schools are pretty similar. The pros for UNH- my dad, Mark and I all graduated from there and it is close to home. He would still be on campus, but it is reassuring to know he is not too far away. The pro for UMaine- less expensive.

He prefers UNH, but does not need to make a final decision until April or May.

I believe Aerosmith honored our tickets at a rescheduled show a few months later. I also caught an Aerosmith concert while I was in high school. They are awesome live, especially when they perform more than a few notes.

For Nate's class trip we ate all of our dinners in the food court. At the time I know they had a make your own ice cream sundae option, but I don't remember if there was an ice cream sandwich option. We didn't spend much time in the food court on this trip. Except for the breakfast on AK day, all our meals were in the parks. We did stop a couple of times for snacks, but I head right for :mickeybar

I currently have 2 teen boys living at home. Ben loves food and can eat quite a lot. Nate, on the other hand, doesn't have a huge appetite, but does have expensive tastes. So they both do their share in our huge food bills! :lmao:

I could definitely see Landon having fun in the splash pad.

This was the only day our group took a resort break. It was a nice opportunity to rest up before hitting the MK.

:cool2:

Girls can pack it away, too. Especially during those tween years. Amara had a bunch of her friends over for a sleepover on New Year's. There were eleven of them. They consumed two extra large pizzas alone between 2 and 8 a.m. They proceeded to eat two pounds of bacon and half-a-dozen pancakes each later that morning.

We have had no luck with Aerosmith concerts either. We have had three of them get cancelled. One was rescheduled too bad we were away during that time. They have come back to our area a few times and I refuse to buy tickets to see them. I am waiting for Mike to over rule me and just buy them so he can see them.

Just curious- do your universities make unconditional offers of acceptance or are they conditional upon getting certain grades in final exams? Most here are conditional but it's difficult for some courses to even get that. So far we have 3 offers on the table of which he must pick 2 and return 1 but the university he really wants works to an independent system and he has interviewed there but won't hear anything until around Easter then if he passed the interview stage they will take the top students in the country so won't know for definite until results come out in August so a long wait!!

I haven't seen pictures of the splash pads at other resorts- GF? CR? but I hear they are pretty nice.

Did they not offer you a refund if it was cancelled and you couldn't go? That would really be unfair!

My brother and I saw them in the makeup show and then Mark and I saw them together during the Night in the Ruts tour. I remember the next day at high school students had to turn their t-shirts inside out because the concert t-shirts had the N and R replaced.

Kind of like the O.W.L.s in Harry Potter?

College-bound students take the SAT (Standardized Assessment Test???) in their Junior year and they can retake it in their senior year if they want to. So they know the results before they have to give the acceptance to the school they want to go to. I am not aware of any schools that require special tests, but maybe some of the more prestigious ones do. They do have interviews for those schools.

Students are usually accepted to a school with the condition that they continue to maintain their grades- no senior slumps allowed.

When does he have to let all schools know? Sending good luck wishes!

Our deadline is April-May. Nate has been accepted at 3 of the 4 schools he applied to. We haven't heard from our state University, but he doesn't want to go there, so he didn't do early acceptance there. Pretty sure he will be attending UNH, which was where I went, my husband and my dad as well. It is the most expensive of the schools he is looking at, but the campus is the right size, the school has a good reputation, and it is close to home (but he will live on campus).

:teacher:

We have to accept places in May. Give a first and and 2nd choice but then when results come in he can turn the places in if he gets independent uni or if he doesn't get grades he can apply for clearing where the other universities will look at his achievements and let him know if he is eligible for any other courses. Fingers crossed both boys get what they wish for :)
