I'm in the process of planning our next trip to the World... We will be going in October of 2006, and will have the ILs, our niece and our new baby (who is due in May). What kinds of things would you recommend for a 4 yr old wannabe Princess? And also, anyone who has traveled with an infant before, do you have any tips on how to make the trip go smoothly?

Also, since there are now too many of us for 1 room at AS Music, would you recommend getting 2 rooms or getting a suite or villa?

Thanks!!

We took DS at 9 months & it went great.

With an infant, bring a sling. It is the easiest way to carry the baby.

We are not schedule people, so DS was never on a set schedule. But even if he was, I dont think I would be a slave to the clock. I would just go with the flow with the baby.

Use the Baby Care Centers whenever you can. They are a great place to take a quiet break with baby.

The room depends on your relationships with your ILs. I personally would prefer 2 rooms with my ILs.

I personally think a two bedroom villa would be great....you have a refrigerator, stove, microwave and toaster...along with all the pots and pans...you will need to refrigerate formula (unless of course you will be breast feeding)....gives you the ability to hang out with your relatives, make meals if you don't feel like eating out, a washer/dryer so you can wash the baby's clothes (and yours) before they get permanently stained from the formula spit ups! But really the choice is yours! Congratulations on the upcoming baby!

As far as the wanna be princess.....take her to Cinderella's Royal Table, there's a princess tea at the Grand Fla.....when you get to the parks....ask where the princesses hang out!

Have a great time!

I forgot to mention the dishwasher....great for the baby's bottles!

We're also expecting a baby in '06 (due April 22) and planning baby's first trip to WDW. We're taking along my family and my husband's family (about a dozen people) and booked four rooms at POFQ. We had looked into getting something like a 3 bedroom villa, but it actually works out to be a lot more expensive. The best deal for a family is either to get a couple of rooms or to get a cabin at Fort Wilderness. We did the Fort Wilderness cabin a couple of years ago and thought it was great. You get enough room for 6 people, a living room area, and a kitchen, which is great for storing milk, washing bottles, etc.

As for the princess, there are some great princess activities. Cinderella's Royal Table is gorgeous. We were lucky enough to get into one of the breakfasts there a couple of years ago with my little sisters. The reservations fill up within MINUTES every day though, so it's very tough to get in there (I had no idea what luck I had the first time we booked it). However, if you can't get a reservation there, you can do a princess breakfast at Restaurant Arakesh (sp?) in the Norway pavillion at Epcot. Both breakfasts have a bunch of princesses who come around to the tables, although you won't find Cinderella in Epcot.

Another great princess activity, though quite pricy, is the princess tea party that they hold in the Grand Floridian. I took my little sister last year, and it was really something else! Each girl gets her own princess Aurora doll and crown, and there's a woman called "Rose Petal" who tells the story of Sleeping Beauty and sings beautifully. The girls learn to dance and bow like a princess and to do sign language saying "hail to the king, hail to the queen" etc. Then Aurora herself comes out and dances with the girls and spends time with each one of them individually. Tea and apple juice and finger sandwiches are served, but don't go expecting a meal, it's more about entertainment for the little princesses.

On the rooms I think that you will find that 2 rooms are less then a suite or ville. Of course you will not have the kitchen facilities if they are important to you. We have 5 in our family and have started to get 2 rooms rather then one larger so that there are 2 bathrooms.

Depending on your budget, I would suggest a 2 bedroom villa too! The added benefits of having a full kitchen and the washer/dryer really make a difference. With the kitchen you can save some money by making some meals "at home", especially breakfast and snacks. You can choose to make your evening meal, saving even more, if you wish to. The added room of the living/dining room is wonderful, and each bedroom has its own bathroom - not to mention the whirlpool tub in the Master bath.
With a 2 bedroom villa, you can have your "together time" and still have some privacy.
Hope this helps.

Thanks for the great tips so far! Here's what we have decided (so far, and this is subject to change)...

  • Apparently, we need to rooms if we are still wanting to stay at ASMusic... It actually worked out CHEAPER than a villa. My husband was DYING to get a villa at the Wilderness Lodge, but it was quite a bit more.
  • We booked a package deal for the 5 of us (not including the baby, she's free)... Airfare, rooms, tickets, and food for 4 nights and 5 days.
  • I requested a crib and a refridgerator in both rooms... Since the dining plan has changed since we bought our Gold Plan in 2004, we'll go to the grocery store across the street and get no-heat items for breakfast.
  • I still need to figure out how to heat bottles in the room... Would this be a good time to invest in a bottle warmer? She'll be on complete formula by then, as I'll be back at work.
  • I've ordered a sling... And we'll be taking the stroller.
  • Dinner reservations at CRT will be booked as soon as I possibly can... As will a character breakfast. The Tea at GF is a maybe, we'll see how money is by then.
