Transporting Wedding Dress on JetBlue

Has anybody had any experience bringing their wedding dress on the plane with them on JetBlue? My fiancee is worried about shipping the dress down, so we were wondering what type of experience other brides have had. Did they allow the dress to be hung, or is the only option to fold in the carry on and have it steamed when we arrive?

There are no closets, as I recall, on at least some, if not all JetBlue planes. Even if there were, you would not be assured of being able to use it. It could easily be full by the time you board (not to mention that the closets are pretty small, and there may be objections to the amount of space a wedding dress might take up, depending on the dress). Additionally, passengers' mobility equipment takes precedence over other items.

Any carry-on must not be larger than the allowed size.

I don't know why people are so worried about shipping things. I ship hundreds of packages per year and have never had one lost. If you ship the dress to Carolyn Allen bridal and tuxedo, they will bring it to your room and steam it the morning of the wedding. http://disneyweddingpodcast.com/201...ar-rental-gown-steaming-and-delivery-service/ They'll even pick it up and ship it back after the wedding if you buy cleaning or gown preservation from them. It was sooooooooo nice not to have to lug my dress on the plane both ways.

My parents flew down with my dress as it was living at their house and they were on JetBlue. They put my dress as well as my mother's and my father's/brothers' suits in the closet in the cockpit. Full disclosure, my dad has worked at our airport basically my whole life, so while he is not a JetBlue employee he has become friendly with many of them and I would guess that contributed to the cockpit situation.

I know people have flown Southwest for example and laid their dress flat in an overhead bin and closed it to keep others from mucking it up with their suitcases. I will also say I was all for shipping my dress down as it saves so much hassle, but my mother absolutely refused (hence why my dress traveled with them - I said if she was going to make such a fuss about shipping it then it was her job to get it to FL!)

I called JetBlue before my wedding and they said they could put the dress in an empty seat or store it somewhere else. They said they would not turn away a bride with her dress, it will get on the plane with you somehow. For convenience purposes I took my dress in a carry-on because I wanted the security of knowing it was right by my side at all times. My seamstress helped roll it up for me in the carry-on and it worked out nicely. I also was able to send it back with a family member after the wedding so it was one less thing I had to drag around after my honeymoon. I did consider shipping my dress but as it gets closer to your wedding your nerves start to get to you, and the dress is the ONE thing you cannot risk losing for the wedding. You can lose your other luggage and items but your dress is irreplaceable!

I carried my dresses down on Delta and had no trouble - aside from massive bruises on my palm from the hanger. After all our events were over I shipped it home through the business center at our hotel.

This is the information I got when I checked with JetBlue as well. I've seen some people suggest keeping the dress it's in hung up state until you're boarding then folding into a carry-on. To keep the wrinkling to a minimum. Although i guess it depends on the material of your dress. I think most people have their dress steamed anyway. I'm still researching that part myself.
Also the size of the gown will be the biggest factor. You can't fold up a ball gown the same way as a smaller gown.

This seems pretty expected to me too. I would assume they can't guarantee where it'll go but they'll make it work. If you want to be sure the dress will get it's own seat, you can purchase an extra ticket. Jetblue does make it really easy to buy an additional seat for the same passenger though and then you;d also get additional luggage I think.

My mother is insisting too! We just purchased my dress this past weekend so she started asking how we're getting it on the plane and told me there's no way I'm 'allowed' to ship it. I like your idea of making it her problem if she's insisting... although she's isn't a great traveler and can be pretty scatterbrained in airports, so I'm sure I'll be the one stuck carrying it...drats.

I had a custom couture gown made of silk and silk lace. Literally one of a kind. No way could it be replaced on short notice. It had a full skirt, train and long sleeves. Lotta dress, in other words. No way was I going to schlep through an airport with it, or inconvenience other passengers by being a bin hog.

I shipped it to Carolyn Allens two weeks before the ceremony, insured it, etc. No problems. They called me to tell me that it had arrived, and they pressed it (never, ever steam silk, btw) at their shop and touched it up at our resort the morning of our ceremony.

I totally understand the feeling of not wanting to let it out of your sight, but honestly, it is probably safer being shipped than schlepped.

Carolyn Allens was great--no problems whatsoever.

And, if you fly First Class on any airline they will usually hang it in the closet for you. (Have seen this MANY, MANY times.)

Many airlines will tell you no guarenteed blah blah blah but I've never heard on one of the major names turning a bride's dress away.
