I'm thinking about adding transportation to my role checklist. What are the chances that you'll get placed working the buses? Does that include driving them?

What do you think the chances are of getting monorail?

Thanks!

The Walt Disney World Resort Transportation System (and the Division which runs them) is comprised of three seperate systems: Bus Operations, Monorail Operations and Watercraft Operations.

Walt Disney World Resort Disney College Program and Disney International Program Participants in the "Transporation" role could be placed in any one of the three Departments, depending on stated labour needs*.

This does include driving the buses. Please rest assured that Participants in that position will receive proper training to drive the buses, in accordance with Disney Guidelines and Federal Department of Transporation Regulations.

*I have heard rumours that, due to recent events, Monorail Operations will be reducing the number of total College & International Program Participants they receive each session. However, this is just speculation, and should be treated as such.

I could have sworn that CPers couldn't drive busses because they were an outside company... guess I was wrong

No, the "Disney Transport" Guest Motorcoaches on Walt Disney World Resort Property are owned and operated by Walt Disney World Co..

The College & International Program Busses, on the other hand, are operated by American Coach Lines of Orlando, an outside company. Participants can't operate those buses on the basis that they are in no way affiliated with Disney (other than the fact that they transport certain Disney Cast Members to and from various destinations).

I'm pretty sure that I've never seen a CP in Bus Operations. I could've sworn that area, due to the CDL requirements, did not take CPs.

(In addition to WDW Transportation, and American Coach Lines, another company with a lot of busses on Disney property is Mears, who is the contracted vendor that runs Disney's Magical Express, the Disney Cruise Line busses, the DTD Area Resort Shuttles, and the big yellow Mears busses.)

Yeah that's what I was thinking... if they were desperate I could see 'em doing it, but with everyone scrambling for a job these days, I doubt that's the case right now regardless :confused3

I've seen a few here and there. Though, now that I think about it, they were all working as Bus Greeters, not Bus Drivers.

I am doing Transportation right now and from talking with my managers and other cast members who have been here awhile, I am almost positive that CP's are not placed on buses. That may be a possibility though if you already have the license. They did just expand the Transportation role though to include Bus Greeters while is exactly how it sounds. The other options are the monorails, FriendShip boats (the ones that run between Studios and Epcot and in the World Showcase Lagoon, and also where I work, lol), and the Magic Kingdom watercraft (not sure which ones exactly). It is a really great role though and I love my job. I haven't really met anyone in Transportation that doesn't enjoy their job although I haven't met many bus greeters. They called most of us in April and May to ask if we would switch to greeter but most of us said no.

The only way you could get the buses is if you have a FL drivers License and it has the class for driving vehicles for work use including over 30 passengers.

Most CP's get the boats on property and then Monorails. I know people in the monorails and they've said they've gotten just as many new CP's this semester as any before.
