TransAtlantic Hitting very bad seas!

I grew up in New England where many folks have sailboats. Children in a family were the "volunteer" to be sent up the mast in a bosun's chair when something in the rigging needed attention. Small ripples in the water were un-noticeable on deck but had the child in the mast swinging in great arcs. I learned this marine principle very fast (and fortunately who had a sister who was not afraid of heights!)
upper decks (or upper mast, in my experience) have far greater movement.
Exactly, I grew up on boats, albeit power boats, and was a member of a boat club for many years.

Far more articles say higher and midship is better.

A few here like to re write the laws of science on cause and effect, and to a small few other posters are not allowed to post anything negative re the wonderful deck 2.

Note deck 2 is cheaper for a big reason.

Those who say deck 2 is wonderful, if all categories were priced the same, I bet they wouldn't choose it.

Laws on cause and effect, the closer you are to impact / vibration, the more effect you get.
You are allowed to state you dont like deck 2. The problem is you state everything as fact and not your opinion. It tends to rub people the wrong way. Just my opinion.
Of course price being equal people would choose a balcony. Some people like to save money.

I have the logo but I can't figure out how to load it. It is boring. Kind of looks like a Star Trek tricorder with a ship down the center.
I was deck 7 mid and we felt the sway but it was not unpleasant.

Excuse me?? I can afford any stateroom but I CHOOSE deck 2. We have had veranda rooms but we always go back to deck two. We love everything about it. We even rode out Hurricane Hilary on the 2005 PC cruise in the stateroom 2000. We were offered a deal on it from DCL. It took awhile for me to accept it because of comments like yours. It ended up as a great room. We did not get sick at all. Our friends did, however, on deck 7. Please, stop the nonsense about deck two is a cheap room for a reason. That is just not true. It's not your preference so therefore you feel we all should not like deck two. I will continue to proudly cruise on deck 2 perfectly happy.

Why is deck 2 cheaper? Just wondering. We have cruised on deck 6 and 8 before and movement/vibrations were stronger on deck 8 for us. However, we had more of rough seas that cruise. I felt almost no movement on deck 6 though. We are thinking of choosing deck 2 for our upcoming cruise. Just a bit nervous, is it really bad? Why? I thought it was cheaper because it's further from the pool/lido deck and it's under main lobby/restaurants/clubs. But I don't know for sure. I thought gone are the days that lower decks are not as good on cruise ships. Just wondering why it's actually a bit cheaper to book deck 2. Generally the higher on the ship you go the higher the price is, no?

There is nothing wrong with deck 2. We have cruised on deck 2, 5, and 8, all the rooms have been God. My favourite deck is deck 5, but for the price difference deck 2 is just fine ;)

Every travel agent and cruise line CM I have talked to over the past 15 years have always stated the same thing: if you are prone to motion sickness, the lower decks, mid-ship are the best options. I know from experience that the higher you are the more you feel the sway. It doesn't bother us, but the closer you are to the waterline the less you will feel the sway of the ship.

We just got back from the EBTA. Wow. Wow. Wow. The North Atlantic is no joke.

We heard that the captain said 9 out of 10 crossings would have been better than this year's transatlantic- one might have a bad day or two, but not 5 in a row.

The whole boat was rocking, and everywhere it could be felt. In the dining rooms on deck 3, you would look out one side's portholes and see only sky, the other side would be only water. The concierge hostess stated it well, when you have 30 foot swells, it doesn't matter where on the ship you are, if you are going to get sick, you are going to get sick.

But even if you are sick, you are on a Disney cruise! :)

We have been on 28 cruises and although we have stayed in all kinds of categories and forward, mid and aft, our favorite place is deck 2. We like lower and mid-ship. We don't typically get sick except for the one cruise that had 25 foot seas and 50 mph winds.

It's funny that a previous poster stated that high up is better. I beg to differ for two reasons. 1- when we sailed the Magic with the 25 foot seas, people on the higher decks were sleeping in the hallways on deck 2. Their rooms were up on the higher decks.

2. When they used to offer a Platinum experience, we had a tour of the bridge. It was just us and one other couple with a Ship Officer. He told us that the best place to be is lower decks mid-ship during difficult seas. He demonstrated this by holding a pencil between his thumb and index finger. When he moved the pencil back and forth the top of the pencil moved much more than the bottom. He said the ship is the same. He probably knows what he is talking about.

Well, I was on the cruise and it was indeed rocky. Many were seasick for at least a day or two. I was and my daughter was even worse. But it was still a fantastic trip and now I can say that I have sailed the high seas on the North Atlantic!

We were on this cruise as well. It was rocking and I wanted to kiss the ground in Dublin! When we could see Ireland the 5th sea day I was so happy I could hardly stand it.
