Perhaps this isn't unique to Toys R Us, but this Christmas shopping season I have found myself extremely frustrated with their convoluted "sales". I browsed through their 2 different ads last night, as well as the "Doorbuster" stuff that was an extra 25% off and the OTHER "Doorbuster" stuff that was like 20% off...or whatever, I can't even keep track.

Anyway, I only had a couple of things on my list - the Crayola products that were buy 1, get 2 free and a Wreck it Ralph Vanellope doll (suppsed to be 50% off). Of course, we ended up with a couple of extra items in the cart (Transformer Prime figures were Buy 1, Get 1 50% off too).

First, there is no signing anywhere in the store regarding the sale items. We find the Crayola section, but I can't recall if it was only specific products or if it was all Crayola and there is nothing there to indicate either way. We pick out 3 items and decide to give it a whirl. Pick up Vanellope, but again, no signs to indicate a sale (but by now, that is what I expect of this "2 day Epic Sale").

When we go to check out, the Crayola items we picked were NOT included in the promotion (well, one of them was, but not the other 2). The Transformers didn't ring up correctly, and Vanellope did not ring up 50% off. :headache: I didn't push the Crayola issue, just bought what we picked out. The cashier fixed the Transformers, but we couldn't find the Wreck it Ralph Stuff in the printed ad. So, I paid full price (ugh!) and was done. It was making me crazy, so I looked again once I got home - yes, the Wreck it Ralph toys WERE 50% off, but I had to print a dumb coupon from home to get it. I wouldn't have minded so much if even ONE person in that store would have been able to tell me as much - but both the cashier and the "manager" seemed to have no idea they were on sale at all, in any advertisement.

So, I guess the point of this is, I am SO TIRED of 1-day, 2-day, 12-hour sales - stores can't seem to keep up with the pace of the price changes or the signing and I'll admit my local TRU (the only one within 70 miles) is worse than many, even when it isn't the hectic holiday season. Even worse, is that the employees are out of the loop too and they don't even seem to be familiar with the printed ads for that day/week.

Ok, sorry for the rant...I'm done now. :cool2:

Oh I know what you mean! I was watching an item on the Disney site-go up and down.... I finally gave up and ordered it from Amazon for less. Got free 2 day shipping-the item has already arrived (which is much better that the 10-14 days "est" shipping time from Disneystore)

TRU is the WORST about stuff not ringing up correctly even when it is signed. They also have the worst customer service of any company. I only go there for something that I absolutely cannot find somewhere else.

QUESTION:
We have a TRU Express here. Do you know if they price match, like the big box TRU? I am hoping to get some MonsterHigh Dolls at better prices.
The TRU Express has actual price tag stickers (kinda old fashioned as DD says) and they seem to be higher priced.

My TRU express did. I didn't realize that they didn't run the same sales, and the sales associate had to manually change the prices. No problem, just took some time.

BTW, I RARELY shop at TRU...only did because of the Groupon out there.

I am a signer for Macy's, and I totally agree with the highlighted part. Like other stores, we have something changing pretty much every day now. We were the only store in our district that actually had the last one day sale signed by the time the store opened. This weekend we have morning specials everyday, but no more hours for signers, so managers are doing them. I'm pretty sure they are not going to be done right. There really is way too much change this time of year. :worried:

I stopped shopping at TRU a few years back. It was to the point when I would go I would rip off the 3 Up sign off the shelf and bring it with me to the register because I knew the item would not ring up correctly. I still would have cashiers argue with me and I even had the ad with me.

Also I got into an argument with a manager because they wouldn't match their online price. I didn't understand because they should have the same prices. I too shop other places.

I believe the online store is a separate entity, meaning prices online are not honored in store. It doesn't make sense to me but they are not the only one to do this. And yes toys r us drives me crazy. So much so that after a disastrous shopping trip I joined Amaon Prime. They will be my go to from now on.

I think it is important to realize that these are most likely seasonal employees earning minimum wage. They punch a clock and pull a trigger on a scanner. They aren't going to be your best resource for information and to expect a high level of service at a retail establishment like this is only going to result in your continued frustration.

Perhaps next time bring a copy of the ad or print out what you are looking for and this will result in less frustration on your part.

I know that when I worked at Target early Saturday evening those who worked on the sales floor would begin the process of removing the signs for the previous week's ad. This was necessary due to the fact that it was this close to Christmas and the store looked like a tornado went through it at the end of the night. There simply isn't time to "zone" and set an ad after the store closes, especially a few weeks before Christmas. Then, while preparing the store for the next day, the ad could be "flipped."

If you went in the evening on the last day of the sale perhaps this is what happened.

Just after this thread I went into to my email to clean it up and remembered I had $3 in rewards. They were only good 11/25 to 12/8, unreal that it is only good 14 days.

Last time I went in I spent probably 15 minutes picking out 2 DS games that were 2 for $25 (I was looking up all the reviews to make sure they were good), of course they go to ring them up and the 2 for $25 sign was on the wrong DS rack. They were 2 for $40. They actually ended up honoring it for me with no problems.

ITA. Went there Friday night for the deal they had on WWE Wrestlers for my nephew. They were in the ad 2 for $14.99 with the Elite ones 2 for $29.99. NONE of them rang up. Had to spend another half hour at customer service getting them to adjust it.

Although while I was there, I helped a woman out - did my good deed for the day :santa:. She was buying two Just Dance Disney games ($39.99) but Target had them on sale for $29.99 so she wanted TRU to price match it. The customer service rep was starting to give her a hard time as the woman didn't have anything printed out showing Target's price. So while I was there, I pulled out my phone and found them on Amazon for $19.99. Which they matched for her :thumbsup2

That woman was so incredible grateful that I saved her all that money, I swore she was going to kiss me right there at customer service :rotfl: She couldn't believe I did that for her; I think I smiled all the way home!

I don't think Toys R US really ever has any real sales anymore. I have been price watching a skate ramp for my son. Black Friday weekend it was $60 but the shipping was crazy like $30. Then they had the free shipping promo - "Great!" I thought. But of course, the price of the ramp was now $90. Frustrating!

I despise TRU (and BRU). Yes it's annoying that they don't have the correct signs up and yes it's annoying that employees don't seem to have a clue on most things but the MOST annoying thing is when you take a coupon from the ad, buy something that is pictured right next to the coupon and then the coupon doesn't work at the register. Of course the employee working the register can't figure it out. Two managers and 15 minutes later you might be lucky enough to walk out with the savings you expected.

I hate that god awful store. Dw and I went there a few weeks ago. We had like $200 worth of stuff in the cart. We'd gotten an email saying spend $75 get a $20 gift card. The girl checks us out but doesn't mention the gift card. I ask her and she goes and talks to her manager. She comes back and says no one knows about the deal. We pay and go talk to the manager that she talked to. She says that there should have been a coupon with the email, an we can't get the dal without the coupon. Sorry. Just then DW looks down and sees a thick stack of ads with the same coupon on the front. I very politely picke up the ad, held it in her face and said "this coupon?" it took her 30 minutes to redo the transaction. I don't know why she did it by hand. I don't even want to go back and spend the gift card now.

YES! This happened to me so many times last year. And no one, not even the managers know how to fix the problem. They always blamed it on the computer system and how it didn't read some coupons. So I learned to not plan on a "quick" trip to TRU.

Thank goodness my kids have not asked for toys this year. I have not stepped foot in a single TRU this holiday season. I will gladly pay $5-$10 more for something at Target, Walmart or Amazon if it means I don't have to go to TRU. Their coupons cause more headaches than anything else and it's just not worth it to me to use them.

I am so glad we're pretty much out of the TRU stage with our kids because I have NEVER had good experiences with that store. Poorly marked sale prices, uninformed employees (seemingly always trainees too, with maybe one person in the whole place who has worked there long enough to know a little something), terrible stock levels, etc.

We never have issues with our TRU even if something's rings up wrong I mention it and they fix it right there no questions. I guess I've just been lucky. The only thing that frustrates me is that I can't pull up their coupons on my phone. They have to be printed.

I went back to TRU yesterday to have them price match the Nintendo 3DS XL that I bought for 199 Plus 30 GC on Thursday because Best Buy had it for 159. I was told that I could get the refund amount of 169 and then a price match but I asked if I could return the gift card and just get the straight price changed because I didn't need the $30 GC which was actually a merchandise credit so I couldn't even regift it. The CASHIER said he wasn't supposed to do it but he did it with no issues. Lots of people in my store returning and changing prices but no problems.

TRU seems to be trying to stay competitive. I have good memories of that store and i will be sad if it ends up being devoured by Walmart and target.

Toys R Us has gone downhill BIG TIME in the last couple years. The stores are messy and unkept and they have huge problems with signage and ringing things up. When I go thru checkout I almost always have an issue with how something rings. It's gotten to the point where I can't even shop there. I went last week, and was so irritated within the first 5 minutes that I left.

Last year I went during a doorbuster sale to get a fisher price item marked half off. It didn't ring as half off and it took the customer service rep 20 mintues to fix the problem. I had also bought an outfit from babies r us and it rang up $5 more than it should be. I was so irritated that I asked for the 10x refund that they have to give for items that are marked one way and ring up another...

There are too many other shopping choices to have to put up with their garbage store.
