eylo all! okay so, im going back to disney next month and i agreed to TRY to tower of terror, since i chickened out last month. but the one thing that scares me most is not knowing what to expect lol i know it drops but one of the cms before the line said it doesnt *always* go to the very top? but that its random how high it goes? is that true?

and my friend said it not only drops you fast but it like shoots you up the elevator fast which i didnt know.. does it really do that?

i just dont want any suprises or im going to be freaking out haha :guilty:

It drops you down and shoots you up too. it is always random and you wont know how many times you are going to shoot up or down. It's so much fun though :). At least try it once, i dont think you will regret it.

Sometime they do what I call a slingshot where you never really stop you go right up and then right back down, but it is great...it scares me but I love it...

My three and four year old daughters talk about ToT til this day. They begged to ride it for the 5th time and one was even scared of Phillarmagic. i don't know how that happened.

OK, I have to say that ToT is a great ride but, it also scares me more than anything else in Disney.

The drop is really not that bad, but I always get myself worked up waiting for the actual fall. I don't think that the drop itself is as bad as the Free Fall at Six Flags or as the Space Shot (called different things in different places, basically a reverse in that it starts at the bottom and goes up very fast and then falls!)

But, it never fails that I am totally tense by the time we get to the drop!

The special affects and the atmosphere make it worth it though!! Make yourself do it at least once!!

Have fun!

I was too chicken to try TOT for our first several family trips. Finally I tried it since my DS always wanted to go on. The atmosphere that sets up the elevator ride is fabulous. The whole idea from the outside to the inside of the building to the short film introduction by the late Rod Serling really does it's job. Believe me, once you ride it you will be amazed. After all those years avoiding TOT it is now my absolutely favorite ride in the world. On our trip last June my DS (now 15) and I rode it 24 times!!!!!
A really special ride and experience. Try it once and you might also get hooked like me.

TOT is scary...but totally fun. The anxiety of it is worse than the ride itself in fact. They have about 4 or 5 diff. ride sequences and the computer randomly picks one for your car. The reason it is so intense on the drop down is that you fall faster than gravity. It literally pulls you down.
and since you go up/down several times.....you get an opportunity to view the whole park from the upper window. So look outside!

Basically think human yo-yo with the option of stopping halfway down...then zooming back up.

You'll be able to tell when you enter the "shaft".....you'll feel the car being suspended...in the summer you feel the temperature change as well. There is no mistaking when the drop is about to occur.

I'm such a wimp when it comes to rides. Eventhough I've been on ToT a handful of times I'm sitting here freaking myself out about it! Not to scare you, but I understand how you feel. From one chicken to another, there is nothing to be afraid of. ToT is my favorite "thrill" ride because of the atmosphere and the payoff. It's long enough to get you pysched up, but short enough to not freak you out and keep you wanting more. I hadn't been on it since they had the random up and down effect. Going up and down was so fast I didn't even realize the distance we had traveled. It just felt like you were falling a story at a time and then it was over. My trick is to scream! Once I stopped holding my breath and let it all out I was actually able to enjoy myself on these sort of rides.

YOU CAN DO IT, THE FIRST TIME IS THE HARDEST BUT AFTER THAT IT IS A PIECE OF CAKE!!! :thumbsup2

You all have convinced to give it a try!!! :Pinkbounc :Pinkbounc I wasn't sure about ToT but I ride roller coasters, etc... (except backwards ones!) and I can't wait to try this now!!! Did you guess - my FIRST TRIP TO WDW!!!!

One weird question. Can you leave your glasses on???? I always take glasses off for roller coasters but was curious about ToT. Mine are prescription and I can't really see well without (if there is much to see!) but not a big deal if I have to take them off! Give me your opinions -- thanks! :teeth:

I wear glasses too and I think they tell you to take them off. I'm in the same boat. I wasn't too thrilled about going on this the first time either. However once I did it I couldn't get enough. Great theming and a really fun ride. It is now my favorite ride at WDW next to Soarin'.

I can't see well enough to enjoy rides without my glasses either. Even when others said wearing glasses wouldn't be a problem, I always worried they would go flying and it detracted from the fun. The best investment I made was to pick up "Eyeglass holders" in which you to insert the ends and then just tighten them against your head. They're cheap and completely eliminate the added stress and distraction!

So here's my question...by the way, I'm very much a chicken...I took the walk of shame...or rather the ride of shame! I went down the safe elevator :rotfl2: . Anyway...I'm terrified of heights, but I'm trying to convince myself to go on ToT. Do you ever fall all the way down? Or do you usually fall a little, then go up and back down and maybe up again. I think I'd be fine with multiple drops...just not an all the way down then all the way back up and down. Make sense?? :scared1:

I have always worn my glasses on ToT. I am a total chicken about rollercoasters because I hate the hills. But, ToT is absolutely my favorite ride.

Just remember.... whats the ABSOLUTE worst thing that could happen? You are scared for a minute or two and then its over? Three year olds go on this ride all the time.

ILoveStich is right. DD's favorite ride since she was 3/4. Just do it. It really is not as bad as you think it is before you ride.

Tot is my favorite ride ever and that only happened this trip! We went to the World once before and I only rode once then, and it was a ton of fun but I was still very nervous about the ride. However after riding it a few more times this last trip I've discovered that it really isn't that stressful on the body at all if you don't panic. My DBF said it's a lot more fun to hold on to the handles than not, because then you hold on tight, which excites/scares you whereas if you don't hold on at all you just kind of relax and go plop plop a lot! :confused3

I've never been had the nerve to not hold on though, no way !

I do not do roller coasters, I am a big chicken on all rides, but my dear kids convinced me to ride on our last trip and it was GREAT! It is the one ride I am looking forward to this year. It is the one ride my 2 boys still can't stop talking about and the first one we are going to ride when we go in June. They have convinced their little sister to try it this time. Like mother, like daughter, she is chicken hearted like me! The first words my son said to me after he rode it for the first time (he was 8) were "Mom, that ride made me scream like a girl" and he thought that was a good thing! Do it and have a blast!

ToT is one of my favorite rides, too. If it is not busy we usually get right back in line several times. I just love it.

I'm in the minority. Just to give you another point of view. My DH talked me into it (there was NO line - imagine that). I grudgingly got on it. The theming was amazing, but I will NEVER ride it again. As soon as the drops started I was crying like a baby (the picture was a riot). With that said, my most common nightmare is being in a falling elevator, so maybe for me it was bringing my nightmares to reality and made it that much worse.

The good news? I lived through it. Try it once. You may LOVE it!
