Towels/Clothes on Balcony Railings

I was taking a picture of VWL from the pool side (awesome view), and I could not believe what I saw.....Towels and swin suits were hanging from two separate balcony railings. I am by no means snooty, but this did not look at all appealing. If more people did this, it would look like the projects.
I had all I could do to stop myself from finding their room, and knocking on their door.

Am I over reacting here???

I agree. That is not what usually happens at a 5* resort. I myself would not do that.

If I remember correctly, in the studios aren't there clothes lines in the showers to hang stuff? I might be wrong. I can't seem to remember anything like that in the 1 bedroom, but then of course you have a dryer. We have trouble monitoring and remembering to keep our unneighborly trailer park habits in check when we go to DVC, so I can understand how others might forget as well...... anyone know where I can get a travel size plastic pink flamingo and I'll be playing my oversized bass seakers in my car as loud as they'll go in the parking lots.....

In our original paperwork there is a line about not hanging anything out on the balconies. Of course, I think 99.5% of the folks who purchase never read the paperwork to begin with. I agree that stuff all over the balconies really detracts from the way things look. (And there is a pullout clothesline in the studios.)

I know at BCV there is a pull out clothesline in both the studio tub/shower and the 1 Bedroom Shower.

A large percentage of timeshares prohibit this activity and IMO, they all should. Some fine guests who violate the rule.

Well I think it's also careless as any wind coming up can carry things off the balconyrail. Wouldn't it be better to just drape something over the balcony chair instead so its out of sight from the outside?

my 2 cents.. I have maybe once put a towel on the balcony to dry. I did not think anything about it.. But you know I am on vacation so I might have been making too many frozen drinks. but If you came to my room .. there would have been a problem. What problem you ask?? I would ask you to join us but we have no more stem glasses... ..dave

I've never really thought about towels on the balcony. I do that once in awhile, of course, at OKW it's not like a flag waving in the breeze, the balconies are more secluded.

Even the regular resort rooms have the retractable clothes line. I thought I was the only one who really was irritatated by the "Clampets visit DW" look. It really stuck out one day when we were at the GF and one family had suits and towels hanging from the balcony.

We have never hung towels out to dry, but we have put our bathing suits over the chairs. Does that constitute "slum living"?? We DO NOT put our suits in the dryer because it heats up the lycra and makes them look terrible. The line is the shower takes just too darn long. I think that the chair bit is ok, but not railings.

At the Jersey Shore everyone hangs their suits and towels off the balcony. I think it is fine there at the beach, but at a 5* resort hotel, I think it looks tacky. I love the remark" the Clampetes at WDW". I got a big chuckle from that.

DBF and I saw some plastic 2 litre bottles thrown over the fence into the wooded/wet area about 2 days before we left. It made me sick to think people would act that way anywhere never mind in a resort.

The towel wouldn't bother me if I thought that that's all they would hang out. But if they allow towels the next thing you know we'll have all kinds of laundry hanging over the balcony.

By the way DBF put his swimsuit over a chair on the balcony to dry and I quickly removed it and hung it on the line that Disney provides in the bathroom!

I have kids, and they hate to put on a wet suit.....

Throw them in the dryer, or use the clothesline in the studio shower, and make sure to take two suits. Problem solved.

I guess we broke the balcony law by hanging our dripping ponchos on the balcony rail. We knew we would need to pack them in the back pack the next day and those things just don't dry unless they drip. No where in the room to drip dry 5 ponchos. The balcony worked beautifully!

LOL! Quit paying so much attention to what's wrong with the world, lighten up and have a good time. Now if there was underwear hanging on the balcony, that would be a different story!

Seriously, it wouldn't bother me if I saw stuff hanging out to dry, I have seen lots of towels hanging on the balconies at the Contemporary, too.
But, I personally wouldn't do it for 3 reasons:
1. Wind might blow stuff away.
2. Bird droppings on railings.
3. Maintence crews (at BCV, anyway) seem to wash down the balconies/railings with a pressure washer on a pretty frequent basis.

I prefer to put stuff in my really cool washer/dryer and have nicely washed and dried towels/bathing suits for the next swimming opportunity.

I have friends who honeymooned at the BC and she hung her bathing suit on the balcony to dry. Imagine her embarrassment when she had to call maintenance to get it off the roof below where it had blown off!
