Okay, so what's the scoop on "Towel Animals? How often does one get one? What different animals are there? Does tipping the housekeeping staff affect how often you get one? Are you allowed to take them home with you? What is it about them that make them so special? Let's hear all the facts. And some of the magical stories as well. Thanks. :cool1:

I would not take one home because they fall apart and are the property of the hotel. But I take pics. I've gotten them off and on at every hotel at least once that I've stayed at. Tipping amount never seemed to matter. It seemed to just be random. My favorite ever was a little duck from Pop a year or so ago. I'll see if I can find and figure out how to post a pic. :)

I think it's truly pixie dust and just depends on the housekeeper you get. I don't think tipping really matters...we always tip, and never got towel animals until this past trip to WL, where we got one every day!!!!
My in-laws didn't tip at all, but they got a few too...I think we just got lucky this past trip and got a great mousekeeper. We left them in the room, thinking they were hotel property, but when she saw us walk by on check out day, she told us to make sure that we took them with us, which we were happy to do. DS got a Birthday cake towel, we got an angel, a candy cane and a pair of mouse ears!!!

Come to think of it, this is the first trip that we've actually seen/met out mousekeeper. I wonder if our just being friendly to her had anything to do with it.

I agree...think it just depends on your mousekeeper. We got a swan pair and our mousekeeper told me to take them home for my birthday that we were celebrating (she knew it was my birthday because of the baloons and wine that had been delivered to our room).

Tipping does not help, as I've learned in the past. Its seriously all luck if you get them or not!

I agree, when we stayed for 8 nights at POP on our last trip... we did not get even one towel animal! My son left a "mousekeeping tip envelope" for each morning with different elaborate drawings on each one(he loves to draw), but did not make any difference... as they said... it just depends on the mousekeeper! :goodvibes

I had 7 of them waiting for me when I checked into the CSR last year.
Guess I got lucky...if thats what you want to call it. :confused3

We ALWAYS tip our Mousekeepers very well.....stop and make a fuss over them when we see them each day in the hall....and we always have a room full of towel animals.

BWI last time was overwhelming - 3 giant bears, swans and an unidentified 4 legged animal!

Our mousekeeper brought me the unidentified one when she discovered I had crashed in the afternoon with a cold and spend the evening in bed - sneezing!

I guess we have been lucky.

I have seen books with instructions for towel animals. Perhaps you can re-create them at home before you leave for WDW - to get into the Pixie Dust mood.

We stayed at the Poly for 2 weeks in November and had 2 towel amimals waiting for us when we checked in and as we were there for quite a while I didn't tip every day but left an envelope with $10 in every few days. We got 2 more towel animals during the trip which our mousekeeper told us we were more than welcome to take home. Also when passing through GCH one morning there was a lady making them and she had a lovely monkey that my Mum remarked on and she told us to help ourself so my Mum got the monkey and I got the Rabbit who now has pride of place on my bathroom window.

Are you allowed to take them home with you?

Our Mousekeeper encouraged us to take them home. Since we were flying, I just took one (we had new ones almost every day) and put it in the children's bathroom at home to remind them of their trip.

As I understand it, they make them from the towels and washcloths they no longer use to stock the bathrooms.

We got these at POP in Sept. 2007:

We did make sure to tip each day and left a note about how much we liked them with the subsequent daily tips....

When we checked into the WL they made a towel heart and balloons for our 10 year anniversary.

When we checked into the Poly there was cute bunnies on the bed.

When we checked into the YC there was some cute ones in the bathroom.

Nothing at any value or mod, nothing at the CR.

We dont take them home with us.

Not sure how or why some people get them or not. When we were at WL back in 2007 & 2006 my DS & his wife along with myself & Dh got towels animals. One was shaped in Mickey Mouse ears, others swans or penquins we asked both the maid we had along with the manager of concierge's level since that where we were staying at if we could buy them both said no but to please take them. I guess you need to ask in some cases but we had no problem getting our penquins come in same condition they were in. Guess we got lucky :cloud9:

We had a couple of small towel animals waiting for us when we checked into POFQ and the CM's at the conceirge desk told us that we should take them home.

Just a side note. At the Grand Californian at DL, they offer a workshop in the lobby on how to make towel animals. My Mom and daughter did it and had a great time!

We've had 3 stays in the last 3 years, 2 at POR and 1 at CSR and have not gotten a single towel animal :sad1:

This last trip mousekeeping had placed a rolled washcloth on the bathroom counter and I joked that we had received a towel animal and it was a sea cucumber!

I really hope we get one. We're staying at POR and I showed pictures of them to my girls - I would hate for them to be dissapointed. I didn't realise it was a random thing. I thought it was kind of customary.

When we stayed at Pop I left a tip for mousekeeping with a note saying my dks love towel animals! There were 2 waiting for us when we returned!! They really add to the magic!
