towel animals - keep or leave??

For those wondering what you'd do with them if you took them. My boyfriend and I took our little bird towel animal and plan on taking us on our trips. We'll take pictures of him at the various places we go.

Oh and I would never take the animals if I wasn't told they were for me to have.

Just wanted to add, several months ago I was trying to find pics of simple towel animals (wanted to try making a couple for the kids) and saw a person had posted their Disney towels animal for auction on eBay (3 of them). I don't believe there had been any bids when I saw them.

A bit tacky IMHO  It's one thing to take and enjoy, another to take just to resell.

We took ours home. We happened to come in from the pool when our Mousekeeper at the Carribean Beach was placing a Towel Animal on the children's bed. DD said "Look mommy a bear! Can I take it home, please?" I told her no and was about to explain it belongs to the hotel when the mousekeeper turned to us and said "It's ok. It is hers to keep, and so is the little bunny we left on the sink.

They are both promptly displayed on a shelf in our downstairs bathroom. Every time they see it they say "We can't wait to see which other we get at WDW next year!"

What an interesting discussion--

On our last morning, mousekeeping had a table set up in the lobby at ASMO and was making them and giving them away! lol

Therefore, I 'sho did take mine home !:)

When we were at WL for our honeymoon, I thanked mousekeeping for the bride and groom mickey and minnie and she said for us to take them, so we did. Otherwise, I probably would not have. I can see both sides.

Our last stay at the WL... WAS THE VERY FIRST TIME WE GOT TOWEL ANIMALS!!

It was a cute little penguin with sticky things for eyes and a rabbit with a sticky sticker nose and eyes...so cute....

anyway....I took mine home too! They werent BIG TOWELS.....just washcloths!! :bitelip: :rotfl:

Dont flame!!!! :confused3 It didnt even dawn on me you werent supposed to take em with ya when ya left!!!!!!!! :teeth:

(oh, and what to do with them...well there are sitting on my dresser next to my mickey soap and toiletries!)

The first time we got them, I took them home. They are too cute! And they sat on my countertop for about a year. :)

Now, I don't need them. When I get them, I enjoy them and leave them there.

We've stayed at the AKL twice and have never received a towel animal. :sad2: What's the secret to getting one. We do leave a tip for Mousekeeping every night.

I have to ask....doesn't it take more time then usual to type with all capitol letters? It's not a flame and I don't care if you do....it's just harder to read and I find myself skipping over posts like this which is a shame because you could have helpful info.

Also, if everyone took all the towels all the time....I think we'd sure see an increase in price to stay at Disney ;) :goodvibes

I once had a post that turned out like that,,,, I didnt write it like that it just looked like I did.
this is turning into a mug thread :)

they sound so cute - hope we get something like that at AKL next year as we are having a Disney Vow Renewal.

I have heard so much about the towel animals and have been looking forward to getting one, but I would never have dreamed you could actually take them home - thanks so much for this thread! :)

Personally, I don't know why people get so excited about towels folded into animals. I just don't get it! :confused3 I don't understand people's fascination with the "characters" either...college students in big fuzzy costumes. They actually kind of freak me out! :sad2:

Well before I had kids I left them in the room. We got some cute ones at BC little starfish and a tropical looking fishy. At AKL we got a bear looking animal that my son played with until the glue fell apart. I dont see how they could have reused the towel when it was glued together. I never really thought about taking it he just carried it around the whole trip and then it came home with us.

We were left different, adorable towel animals daily at WL in February, and although I took pictures of them, I left them there. After reading all these posts about them being given to children, etc...does anyone wonder if a Mousekeeper feels bad that people DIDN'T take their towel animals home with them? Like maybe they'd think you didn't like them or something? I never thought of it that way before, but now I'm curious... :confused3 I wouldn't want to hurt their feelings if that's what their intention was - to make you something you would enjoy and could bring home.

Just wondering...:confused3

Wow, it never occoured to me to take them!

It seems like just in the past year or so they have started making the ones with stickers/ribbon/glue, etc. The older ones I got were just made from folded towels, usually with something from the room (sunglasses, etc.) added as an accessory.

After reading the thread, I'd guess that the new ones with embelleshments are OK to take, but the ones that look like they're made from towels that are meant to be used should be left.

We have taken one home that was glued together but the ones that looked like they were towels that we could still use we left.

Jan '06 we got several towel animals, but one particular elephant my GD really liked. I caught the mousekeeper outside our room the morning before we left and asked if there was anyway I could buy another elephant for my GD to take home. She gave me a totally blank look and said she had made 'all' of the towel animals for us to take home as souvineers and really appreciated the souvineers we had left her. (We had left tip envelopes, but also gave small gifts related to Texas.) The look on her face made it very clear that she had never even considered that we'd leave them. I told her I had always left towel animals, because we assumed we were supposed to. She laughed and said no, towel animals were made by the housekeepers and were meant for the guests to take home.

I agree with your statement about people getting to excited over towel animals, because to me they are nothing that special. During my familes stay at the Contemporary in August we got 1 towel animal made out of a bunny, but I was not like oh how nice it is the way others react to them. So if we were not to get them in December, I would not be disapointed.

However I disagree about your comment regarding people's fascination with the characters. They are not just there for little kids to meet & take pictures with. I am 21 years old & I still enjoy meeting them, in fact I have seen people older then me who still meet the characters & take pictures with them.

Ok, and you're on the Disboards....WHY is it again?? :confused3

I'm glad I found this thread . . . it never would gave occurred to me that we could take the towels home. I think DD would really like that. :)
