I was talking to someone last week who just got back from WDW. They mentioned the towel animals and how theire dd has them set up on her bed at home just as mousekeeping left them.

My response was "You brought the towel animals home?". She said she thought you were allowed to. We didn't keep any... are you supposed to??
:confused3

I have never brought any home because to me it is the resorts property. We just enjoy seeing them and take pictures and that all.

We took all 4 home.... the first 2, we planned on taking anyways.

Then the day before we checked out "Rubi" the mousekeeper at POP - made us 2 more and said "for you! A souveneir!" I assume she meant "to take home" no?

We left ours there, but took plenty of photos!
I seem to recall reading somewhere on here, that the towel animals were made of parts of towels that couldn't be reused as towels .. doesn't mean you should take them home, but i might have gotten the whole thing mixed up, who knows :confused3

Towels are hotel property and should be left there.

Agreed, however towel animals are made by the housekeepers at classes (the ones we have involve glue, ribbon and stickers) and I have been told by 2 different housekeepers that they are ours to take home.

Editing to add: out of three trips we got an elaborate doll, a seal and a mickey pattern placed on the bed (the mickey stayed with WL as it was just made of plain re-usable towels)

Actually you are allowed to take them home. When we were there over Valentine's day, the wondeful supervisor of mousekeeping was in the lobby area of Pop with some of the Mousekeepers making towel animals. I did specifically ask the supervisor and she said that "yes, they are presents for you to take home as well as any that may be left in your room". In the lobby they were making them and giving them to people. There were some absolutely beautiful huge ones that were on display that they were going to put in rooms randomly. I was not one of the lucky ones, but I did have a wonderful mousekeeper who left us several including a clown I had asked if she could possibly make. That morning they had a towel animal class and all those wonderful pieces were from the class. I am going to see if there are any classes available when we're there in Dec. as she said it is open to guests, but it is early in the morning and most guests don't want to come that early.

We were lucky and got towel animals almost every day at WL and POFQ last year. We brought one of them home - a beautiful girl bunny with a fancy little dress and cute face that my DD who was 1 at the time became attached to. I've posted my thoughts on this before - as far as I'm concerned it's not a towel anymore - it ceased being a towel (lol!) when the mousekeeper turned it into a *toy*. It's now a bunny that my DD loves! My DH asked our mousekeeper could we bring it home and she was shocked that we even asked and said "OF COURSE! It's for your little girl!!". Who in their right minds would extract a toy from the hands of a doting 1 year old girl and demand it back!! :lmao: Here's the bunny by the way taking pride of place amongst DD's other favourite toys at the time (and still, now that I think of it!).

If that is true, when we stayed at AKL, there was a rabbit with glitter and stars on it. It stayed on our shelf in the bathroom area and that is where it stayed when we left. So should the rule be if it has stars and is decorated, you can take and if not just leave it?

I've always taken our towel animals home. I figured the cost for the towels was already included in the room rates charged! :goodvibes

Well, that's the way we looked at it. The little toothbrush holders were just face cloths folded a cute way so they stayed. We had the occasional frog which was made from neat (talented) folding so they stayed but in the case of the big bunny with glitter, stickers and glue, that's definitely no longer a towel so that came home on the plane!

Although I like looking at the towel animals, I dunno about the thought of taking them home. Yhea, I do use the hotel towels ... but therein lies the problem. They are made of used towels. :confused3 I just don't want a towel animal on my bed that one served to dry off someone's "achem," fill in the blank.

It never occured to me to take them. For one thing, I didn't really figure they were meant to be taken, but I guess I could be wrong about that. :confused3

Mostly, though, they just aren't something I would really care to take home. I mean, they are cute and adorable in the Disney resort room, but what would I do with them at home?? I wouldn't really want them sitting around my house.

Not sure about towel animals but I do believe it is agaisnt Disney Law to bring Barney within 300 feet of any Disney property. ;)

BTW, we left most of our towel animals but did bring home a cute little duck.

Would you take the towels on the towel rack?? No, becasue it's stealing.. Same thing here, it'a a towel not a souviner!

The way I seeit is that even if I could take them home I dont know If I would. Reason #1 I dont know what I would do with it or put it in my house. Reason#2 While I dust my house, how do you dust terry towel? Its not like you can wash the towel animal and keep it looking the same. I figure this way it can be recycled and another guest can enjoy it.

When we were at CBR the wonderful mousekeeper we had for one of our rooms made great animals. When my DM hurt her leg and was in bed she made her an elephant and brought it to her as a gift to make her feel better. How sweet was that!! :) It made my DM's day when she did that. She did take it home.
If it was a problem for Disney I would think they would put a sign in the room about not taking the animal towels home or stop the mousekeepers from making them.

Before I read this thread I would have said, "No, I wouldn't take the towel animals home, that would be stealing."

After reading many of the posts I am not so sure. If we had young children and they were special gifts for them I would ask mouskeeping and if I had the go-ahead, I would take them home.

Since I don't have young children more than likely the towel animal gifts will be left in the room.

We asked a manager and he said the towel animals were to stay in the room. It is part of the towel inventory. If lots of people take the towels then Disney has a reason to increase the prices.
