I’m thinking of chartering a powerboat and creating my own itinerary, and one place that keeps popping up is Cooper Island. I know it’s good for snorkeling, but I’m not doing that - is it ok for swimming ?

Thanks!

Where is Cooper Island?
My guide book says it’s on the south side of the Drake channel, about 8 miles from Road Town

I know I definitely want to do Smuggler’s Cove - maybe Patricia’s for lunch.

A possible island hopping itinerary might be:

White Bay, JVD - morning
Smuggler’s Cove - lunch/early to mid afternoon

Cooper Island/Virgin Gorda (Devil’s Bay)?

For a freckled, very fair skinned tourist, that’s a lot of sun, sand and water, lol. It almost makes me wonder if I should forget the last two stops and maybe to a taxi tour of Tortola instead....

Thoughts?

Thanks !

Where are all these places? Please, please, please start putting the port of call in the subject line of your posts, so that when we plan a cruise that includes the same ports of call, I can find the relevant threads!

You can pick up a mooring at Cooper Island Beach Club. We've done two week long bareboat charters and stopped there both times for lunch/swimming. Since you won't have a dinghy you would need to swim in.

Also, check with the charter company. They can give you ideas for itineraries. Will you have a crew or bareboat? If you have a crew tell them what you are looking for and they can easily put a full itinerary together.

Thank you so much!

I’ve actually decided to do sort of an island/beach combo tour with Dervin @ Stoutt’s Taxi and Tours. I’ll spend some time at Smuggler’s Cove, and then Dervin will take me around part of the island...perhaps with a stop at CBG. As much as I’d LOVE to see White Bay and spend time there, I can’t help thinking how I’d regret not seeing any of Tortola. I WILL return to the Virgin Islands, and JVD isn’t going anywhere.

I actually think this works best. I’ll be getting plenty of beach time on this cruise, what with spending some time on Trunk Bay in STJ (as part of a Jeep tour) and Disney’s Castaway Cay. I don’t think I need more.
