Oh yeah, and refuge from the CB until the UPROAR from the election dies down. I guess it was too much to ask that people would back off all the political speak as soon as Election Day was over. But....I digress :teeth:

DH and I are contemplating a trip to Toronto next summer to see the Red Sox when they play the Blue Jays. (We did a Baltimore trip this year, and it was so much fun, being the out of town fans)

So, I am clueless about your fair city. I imagine we would want to stay close to Skydome, but I have no ideas about the area, or what else we can do/see. And of course, I have not stumbled on the DIS for Toronto. :earsgirl:

So, if anyone can offer any advice or direction, I would greatly appreciate it.

Thanks

Debbie

I highly recommend the Holiday Inn on King Street or The Crowne Plaza. I have stayed at the Skydome Hotel and the corridors are horrible and I did not care for the rooms. There is so much to see and do. You must take the ferry from the bottom of Bay Street over to the Toronto Islands. It would be considered our "Central Park" a huge green space with beaches, a small amusment park, bike and surrey bike rentals, walking and biking trails, etc. It is quite lovely. I live about an hour west of Toronto and love to visit the city. The CN tower is a must but only on a clear day. The view is beautiful. also, the ROM (Royal Ontario Museum) is excellent. You can fly into Toronto but you may find the rates better to fly into Buffalo and rent a car. It's about an hour and a half drive. However, you will find prices for car parking in Toronto atrocious so you may be using up any savings that you had.
I'm sure the residents of Toronto can give you better ideas for restaurants but I personally love Movenpicks. They are scattered throughout the city. Another must for sports fans is the Hockey Hall of Fame. If you are a Red Sox fan than you must love the Bruins.....so check it out.
Have fun!

we thought the Skydome Hotel rooms were pretty cool though..(they overlook the field)...

Have fun!!

I can't give any suggestions about hotels but when you getting tickets for the games I will vouch for the fact that you don't need to spend a lot of money. The skydeck tickets are $9 each (or they were this year) and the view is just as good as if you spent $50 each and sat on level one.

Lots of Boston fans come up to the games here in Toronto so you won't feel alone cheering for the visiting team.

How long are you planning on staying and what, besides baseball, are you interested in?

We have neighbourhoods representing different cultures: Chinese, Greek, Indian, Italian, etc. where you can shop for souvenirs and eat any type of cuisine you can imagine. We have several different shopping areas catering to several different tastes and wallets.

We have harbourfront, with its harbour and island tours, cultural celebrations and dance theatre. The CN Tower, with a variety of attractions. A quite nice zoo, the ROM (although that is being majorly refurbished, and several sections will be down until the project is complete - slated for Dec 2005), the Science Centre. We also have a thriving theatre district, a club scene for any taste, and lots and lots of restaurants.

I've stayed on the Entree Gold level of the Royal York in an executive junior suite... BEAUTIFUL hotel!

I also highly recommend visiting Movenpick Marché for dinner one night in BCE place at Yonge and Front.

If you have time. Niagra Falls on the Canadian side is a wonderful place to check out. about hour away.

A second vote for Niagara Falls if you have the time. The falls are amazing and there is sooooooo much to do out there.

If you do stay anywhere near the Skydome, you will have NO problem finding somewhere to eat!! There are a number of great places down there. The Royal York is really nice in a "grand old lady" type of way. The Crowne Plaza is quite swank - a "newer" style hotel. There is enough within walking distance down there - or you are RIGHT near the biggest subway/train station in the city (Union Station) if you wanted to do a bit more touring. There is also really good shopping down there as Skydome is 4 or 5 blocks East of the Financial District - which has underneath it a huge underground shopping promenade. It is busy during business hours, but otherwise quite empty. It is nice if the weather is no cooperating. If you have a few days, you could also check out what movies are playing. A good link is:

There is plenty to do in TO - come on up:teeth: ::yes::

More like 1.5-2 hours from downtown Toronto. Niagara has lost a great deal of its charm, however, and is now good for tourist traps and casinos and all the problems that go along with casino gambling.

I LOVE Toronto!!!

Some of my fav attractions in the Downtown area:
- Royal Ontario Museum- go on a Friday night when admission is free! There is all sorts of neat stuff there.
- Art Gallery of Ontario if you're into art
- CN Tower is a bit overrated but is a "must do" just for the sake of it... there is a revolving restaurant at the top of the CN tower that my boyfriend took me for my birthday- at sunset it looks spectacular!
- Mirvish musical- Mamma Mia and Hairspray are the big ones out now, I think?
- any of the multicultural areas- I love Chinatown, Greektown, Little Italy, etc. Much cheaper and more authentic meals than you'll find anywhere else.
- The TTC (Subway & bus system) is great for getting around most of the city if you don't have a car
- Shopping- Eaton Centre for a huge mall, Yorkville & Bloor St for upscale, Queen St. W for more funky shopping

If you have a car, def. check out the Ontario Science Centre and Metro Toronto Zoo.

I could go on and on about toronto! If you have any questions just ask or pm :)

Just to clarify this a little so the OP is not disappointed by booking a room and then having it not overlook the field. There are 70 rooms in the hotel that overlook the field. You would have to book one specifically and they can be pretty pricey on game days. Link to skydome hotel site

Some other attractions for summer are Ontario Place and Paramount Canada's Wonderland.

It's a great city! Hope you make it up to see us! :D
