Incentive per point credit only good for 7 days after talking with guide?

I paid $115pp, less $20pp for MB so it worked out to $95 a point. Ridiculously low price for direct points, and its the reason I have 2400 OKW points! I have yet to stay at OKW.... use them exclusively for SAP in villas everywhere else.
So…. there are a LOT of qualifiers there. You had to purchase at least 1000 points and sell a year of points back.

Still an absolutely fantastic deal… but I don’t think “OKW was at $100pp” should be in the zeitgeist as a benchmark. $135pp @ 300 points is a more fair benchmark, IMO.

I'm glad it works for you but I have too much FOMO to not buy where I want to stay, but I also don't have 240k to drop on DVC so /shrug

I imagine a good amount of people were buying at the 300 point mark though and then selling MB to get it down to 115 which is very reasonable. When they cut it off I think they limited the incentives to the 250 point mark (?)

^ There were a lot of people figuring out that 300 points for $135pp was a steal and they got more ridiculous with more points purchased. The incentives were changed mid cycle to reduce the incentives above that 300 point level because people were buying in bulk and DVD was missing out on that discounted revenue. That mid cycle change did not limit the number of points you could buy, it just limited the incentives offered on higher point purchases.

Had this specific conversation with my guide because after I signed the contracts for the 2400 points, I asked him two weeks later about the status of the promotion (in for a penny, in for a pound?) and he told me they shut the door on 1000 points incentives down to $95pp.

I was all set to buy a ton of resale contracts at the places I thought I wanted to stay (which has changed over time), but this Direct incentive was effectively the same price or less than Resale for that number of points and I could not resist the future proofing of direct contracts and the option to stay absolutely anywhere in larger rooms.... for another 33 years. I run into guides all the time that tell me they went back to their customers during that time and explained this exact scenario... and sold tons of 500 block contracts at OKWe ... no wonder they changed the incentives mid cycle!

Well, even at 500 points the incentive was $125pp, and $105pp after MB - that was still a bargain last year for future proof direct points, and 500 points are a decent SAP stash for special occasions. The guides have told me the 500 point package was exceedingly popular because you got almost the top $90 discount level of incentives (which was at the 1000 point level) for half the number of points committed.

Personally, if I could do it over again, I would have bought 3000 points at OKWe. For anyone else, I would say adding on a 500 point SAP basket at $105pp is worth it. If DVD ever does anything like this again, I still have their phone number.

Oh I agree for the amount of points you got like I get it, you wanted the largest rooms unrestricted and you're trying to pass them down to your 4 kids. It's just a very different buying scenario for our family where I do plan to pass it down to my 2 kids but it seems like you're either at the age of retiring or already retired but we're still getting established so I can only afford the resorts we want to stay. Sometimes I did consider just buying a bunch of SSR instead of my current setup but with the amount of points I had the minimum I could do was SAP+. But like I said, I'm glad it worked well for you!

How did you split those points i need to know... 😅

8 contracts at 250 points each, plus 4 contracts at 100 points each = 2400 points. Had to balance the incremental fees/costs from multiple contracts with having small enough contracts to give to my kids who may decide in their future to sell them.
Amazing 👏 I wonder if dvc was prepared for people like you that were going to really come swinging for those points, seems like no and thats why it ended early 🤣

I think you're right! The guides were making a killing on commissions and the points were selling so fast it was only a matter of time before someone at DVD realized they were leaving money on the table. I wasn't around for the VGF fire sale (2023?) but this OKWe thing was definitely one for the record books.

Agreed $115 after MB is still a fantastic deal for direct points with the extended expiration and those 2042 point charts!

I get it, a fantastic deal.

But I think it makes more sense to quote the price before MB because not everyone is going to sell back a year’s worth of points and it standardize the comparisons.

Do you bother with gift cards for your dues? 24,000 in dues for just OKW, 10% off that would be pretty nice but are you willing to put in the effort to get that many gift cards? 🤔

Altogether for all my points, the dues bill is just over $34K. I have not tried the gift cards - it is a great idea but not enough to motivate me to do it.
