Tornado jitters.

Prayers for everyone's safety tonite-it must be just horrible to be going thru what is happening down there.

Prayers that you all stay safe. I'm kind of surprised that nothing was mentioned on the local news here - the lead story was the royal wedding :sad2:

Okay, that one barely passed North of us. We have another that is heading this way to worry about still... sitting in the basement hall (dying of heat). There is some rotation in this next storm, though the worse may go south of us too.

This is nuts. Just heard possible tornado here in Jonesborough somewhere. House not too far from here has lost its roof.

Only a couple more hours yet...

I hope everyone stays safe and that these storms end soon. I can't even imagine going through what some of you guys are tonight.

I'm getting a little scared and I never get scared of storms. My sister in law is harassing me on facebook to go to my mom's house since I live on the top level of my apartment building, but I'm really not wanting to wake up my daughter and go this late.

Where are you? Depending on where you are, it may be a good idea. These storms are nothing to fool around with.

What area do you live in ? South of Atlanta I would most likely leave to safer building .

greenville sc (upstate)

The weather channel was just saying that one of the still very active cells is headed toward Greenville. If it were me, I'd be going somewhere safe. Better to be safe than sorry. If you're going, go now before the storm gets too close.

I am smack dab in the middle of Atlanta and we still have power it is very quiet not even raining yet. Ringold in N.GA got hit really hard as did Rome, GA.

So far we have had 53 confirmed fatalities in Alabama. The numbers may top 100 once the storms clear...Historic day in Alabama...

Parts of Tuscaloosa were decimated, just horrible. My heart goes out to y'all,

I'm in NC and we are under a tornado watch. I'm making dh stay up to keep an eye on the news and get my babies in the bathroom if we go under warning. A weather radio is on my shopping list. I'm sooo tired of all these tornados, they are horrible! I can't even imagine a 1-1/2 mile one, my heart breaks for those in Alabama.

Our local news channel with some pics of the funnel clouds earlier.

We're a little north & west of Atlanta and I think it's starting to slow down. I'm seeing less lightning and the wind is dying back. Most of the tornados have passed above us, maybe 15-25 miles from here. There is a line of storms that are passing over the state line from AL that looks like it's going to stay just to the south of us. We appear to be in the sweet spot. :thumbsup2

Christian is sound asleep in his bed now. DH & I are going to be up for a little longer. I have lived in Georgia for most of the last 30 years and I don't remember having this kind of tornado event before. Oh,we've had some tornados, bad ones too, but not like this. Half the state is under a tornado warning and tornados are popping up like mushrooms above and below us. We're having the last of the line coming through now and I think by 1am we'll be done.

The weather guys are saying to take tornado warnings seriously at night. You can't see the funnel cloud at night. After looking at the one that hit tuscaloosa and Birmingham, I think it would even be hard to see it if you were right there on the ground, that thing was so big.

President Obama just declared the entire state of Alabama a disaster. :sad1:

I've never seen such devastation over such a widespread area. Debris from Tuscaloosa has been found as far away as Gadsden!

We had a visual of a tornado up in kingsport, which is scary because I worked there before. By car, it is maybe 30-40 minutes. We were hunkered down for awhile (I lost internet) and we do have some damage in the area. No known tornadoes but we might not see it until it is light out.

We have one more storm coming up, but then should be clear as this cold front comes through. We are already seeing a huge drop in temp so that is a good sign. I'm exhausted, but have about another hour or two before this front goes through.

It has been a horrible, horrible day here! We had tornado after tornado, and there is a lot of damage in our area. My parents have lost several old oaks, have damage to one of their cars, and have roof and fence damage. They were the lucky ones in their neighborhood. I'm afraid to see how bad everything is going to look in the morning.

We went to school two hours late today and ended up sitting in the hallway until all the kids went home in between tornado warnings. We are out tomorrow, and probably the rest of the week, due to a citywide power outage. They are telling us to prepare to be without power for 5-7 days.

Hope everyone else made it through safely. Please say a prayer for everyone who is experiencing loss tonight. :grouphug:

Night tornadoes are the worst. I always hated night tornado watches when I lived in Missouri. Fortunately, we had sirens, but they were hard to hear with the windows shut and the air conditioning running. I was glad when they finally introduced the weather radio. Nothing like sitting in the basement in the middle of the night to ensure never getting back to sleep!

Glad to hear things have calmed down, Minky. It seems like Atlanta dodged a bullet tonight.

Small world! We are around 20-30 min from Kingsport. It's been crazy here tonight. We hunkered down too. I think that we are coming out of it soon. Stay safe.
