We're going to WDW June 8-20th and have lunch time TS ADR's (around 1pm) for the majority of our days. We do have some dinner TS planned as well. I've been looking at the menu's for the restaurants and the food seems really heavy for summer time. There's lots of cream based soups, fried food and heavy meat dishes on just about every menu. When I think about Florida heat, the last thing I want is fried food!
Anyone else notice this? I'm wondering if the DDP is really going to be worth it for the hot summer months.

I live in Florida, so I really hear you. When the heat is almost overwhelming, even the chance to sit in an air-conditioned restaurant for the duration of a multi-course meal is an event to look forward to. Just because you order it doesn't mean you have to eat it all. It does give you the right to mess it around with your fork for a decent amount of time while becoming rehydrated sipping on cold beverages in a cool, pleasant environment, however.

We had the DDP last year when we went in August... it really was too hot to eat-at least big meals anyway. We ended up cancelling some of our TS ADR's because we just preferred to grab something small rather than do a sit down meal... hence, we are NOT doing the DDP for this upcoming August when we go.....

We go to WDW the first two weeks of June every year. I make all of our ADRs for dinner. Most of our ADRs are after 7:30 p.m. By that time of the day, the temperatures have fallen some and we are ready for a nice break.

Our lunches are always counter service meals. We don't eat much breakfast (just snack on pop tarts, snack cakes, etc.) and we eat an somewhat early lunch. Mid-day, we pick up a snack to hold us over until our dinner ADRs.

We have found that this type schedule works best for us.

If the thought of eating 'all that food' doesn't appeal to you now in the comfort of your own home then it probably won't appeal to you in the middle of June in Florida.

dandave has a good point, sitting in an air conditioned restaurant feels great in the middle of the day. In your case I wouldn't do the DDP. You'll probably save a lot more making the ADR but paying OOP and ordering a beverage, appetizer and a dessert while enjoying the cool. It doesn't make sense to me to order (and pay for) a bunch of food to push around that you're not going to eat.

We avoid big meals during the day, usually do some small stuff and then go big in the evenings. It is one of the reasons I don't particularly like the DDP, because a lot of times I only get a snack or something for lunch and then eat decent later.

Although our kids will be going now and I don't think they will let us get away with just snacks!

We were at Disney last July and will be returning July2008- and it is VERY HOT! We would get up early, eat a cereal bar or pop tart in the room and head out for the morning EMH ( I know there are some who say avoid EMH at all cost but it seemed to work for us) Anyway- light breakfast, early park, back to hotel for counter service lunch, swim and a revitalizing nap;) then back to the parks around 4 or 5 maybe grab a snack, and dinner at 8 or 830, then we would occasionally do evening EMH- which also worked for us-

All this said- we are a family of 2 adults and 2 teens so eating late and staying up late fit with our plan AND I am a night shift worker so that is the schedule I am used to as well.

Thats what worked for us but any break into some airconditioning at mid-day I'm sure will be welcomed. Hope this helps you decide what is best for your family.

Have a fun trip.
