Tonga Toast- Way Overrated

I have to agree. Its not that it's bad-just overrated. The same goes for dole whips.
I also tried the school bread and that was just:scared: bad.

I didn't make it to try the Tonga Toast, but I have to agree on the Dole Whip and School Bread. The Dole Whip was good, but not something I'll have to get every time, and the School Bread (granted, it was the new version) wasn't great.

On a side note, I booked breakfast at Boma (good, not great) and completely forgot to stop by Mara and buy Zebra Domes. As a matter of fact, I wasn't crazy about the Animal Kingdom Lodge at all, so I'm not even that anxious to go back and try to get them. :duck:

ETA: Just so it doesn't seem like I'm Debbie Downer, Raglan Road and Ohana's were both DELICIOUS, and I really liked the Corn Dog Nuggets at Casey's.

DH loves it and I am good for a few bite but I could never eat the entire thing myself...way too sweet.

I feel the same way about zebra domes, totally overrated! Personally we do not like them at all

I agree on the Zebra Domes as well as the fact that I am not a fan of Tonga Toast. (Though my DH doesn't like it either  )

Everyone has different tastes. I am glad that I tried it once, and am happy to leave both Tonga Toast and Zebra Domes for others. ;)

I'm not much a fan offrench toast like breakfast items. Although I love bananas, the Tonga Toast is not to my taste, 2 bites and a pot of French press Kona Coffee and I was a happy clam. My best buddy however, ate hers and the rest of mine.

To each his own, to those people who rave about it, enjoy "You can have my share"

I havent tried Tonga Toast yet, but your right, its always raved about on the boards! I felt the same way with Zebra Domes, just didnt like them at all :scared:

What is a zebra dome? Regadring OHANA, the "pineapple & coconut" bread was great!

TIA

o.k., I was going to agree with you until you attacked my beloved :worship: dole whips. No one bad-mouths my dole whips! :rotfl: And my beloved :worship: school bread:rotfl: (Course I haven't had the new version, maybe it's not as good now. We'll see in May 2009.)

I do agree on the tonga toast...I like it for about 2 bites...after that, way too sweet.

Love them all, manybe I have no taste, this Sept. went to Capt'n Cooks at Polly and got the Tonga Toast and came with bacon for 1 CS which includes 2 drinks. Went back later in the week for a second Tonga Toast. I think it tastes something like what my mom use to make called banana fritters.

Zebra domes are cold/wet coffee flavored sponge cake-y things from either Boma or Mara at AKL.

Oh yes, Dole Whips. I was reading that Aloha Isle has been there from the start. How did I miss it the last four times I was there?! I love pineapple and am so looking forward to trying this Dole Whip. What is the float though? Is it pineapple juice with the pineapple whip on top?

Thinking about trying that School bread, too.

Is there another place I could get Tonga toats other than Kona? Thank you.

At the poly's fast service place Captain Cook's :) But Boatwrights at Port Orleans Riverside has banana stuffed french toast with banana-strawberry sauce...that is somewhat similar and worth trying mm :)

Just like the OP, I had a few "must-try's" on our last trip- Dole Whips and also the beignets at POFQ. I love pineapple, but what I didn't know was that it was a pineapple/ frozen yogurt type concoction. I don't like frozen yogurt. I was expecting something like a frozen juice, which this was not. Just not to my taste.
As for the beignets, they are little puffs of fried dough with sugar on them. :confused3 That's it. I'm sure in New Orleans they are to die for, but at Disney it's just a piece of fried dough.

I've had beignets from New Orleans - from Cafe du Monde. I just couldn't figure out what the hoopla was all about. Fried dough, slightly raw in the middle with powdered sugar on top. meh:confused3 not for me.

Ah, now, I have to object...that's just wrong! My beloved beignets are being maligned!!! :rotfl:

My DD (age 19) called them cocaine-beignets because everyone in our group got addicted to them right away. We loved those messy little suckers.

Oh, I suppose it's just possible that fried dough doesn't appeal to some:eek: That's o.k., just leaves more for us next time.:thumbsup2

BTW, while we were at POFQ last May, every morning there were several people from the New Orleans, La. area ordering beignets...they just loved being able to get "their" breakfast fave at the hotel. I asked if the Disney version were anything at all like the original and 3 different parties from Louisiana all said yes, definitely. Not quite as good, but a good-enough imitation away from home.;)

Hi, I have a question unrelated to the OP, but related to Tonga Toast, :)

Will it still be good if I save it over night? We will have a dinner at Kona, but don't want go back any other time for breakfast. I was wondering if I could by one and save it for the next day.

I am sure it won't be as good, but just wonder if it would turn into sth gross....

Thank you for your opinion.

The Dole Whip is one of the only creations on earth that is worth the torture that my lactose intolerance plus a pineapple float give me!! YUMM!!!

My husband tried a pineapple float with pineapple/chocolate swirl of froyo and I thought it was GROSS...lol. If I am going to have pineapple, I want pineapple.

I believe Tonga Toast is a breakfast only item. I know I really worked to schedule a breakfast just so I could try the famed Tonga Toast.

That being said - I don't think it's an item that would reheat well or taste good cold. I'd say that even if I liked it. :)

The CS at the Poly has Tonga Toast on the menu, could you take a monorail ride from MK to the Poly for a CS breakfast some morning?

Tonga Toast is the only disboards legend I've tried that let me down.

It was good. Just, not all it was hyped up to be. The bananas were really mushy and it just felt like... blah.

On the other hand, Dole Whip Floats are my new favorite. It was the swaying factor in our decision of Poly vs WL, since they have them at CC's.

DF, on the other hand, loved the Tonga Toast. We're going to eat a breakfast at Kona Cafe, but I don't think I'll be getting it again.

Thank you very much.

Yeah, I kinda imagined it would be gross. Banna inside bread, overnight, :sad2: :rolleyes1  We do have a car, I guess I should quit being lazy and drive to Poly one morning for bf, maybe on the day we go to MK, :)

I didn't care much for the Tonga Toast either, on the other hand, the pineapple macadamia pancakes were to die for! I would definately go back for them.
