On October 14, 1912, Theodore Roosevelt, campaigning for the presidency, was shot in the chest in Milwaukee. Despite the wound, he went ahead with a scheduled speech. Wow, that Teddy Roosevelt was one tough cookie!!

On October 14, 1947, Air Force test pilot Charles E. Yeager became the first person to break the sound barrier as he flew the experimental Bell X One rocket plane over Edwards Air Force Base in California.

On October 14, 1968, the first live telecast from a manned U.S. spacecraft was transmitted from Apollo 7.

On October 14, 1998, federal authorities charged Eric Robert Rudolph, one of FBI's 10 most-wanted fugitives, with the bombing at the 1996 Summer Olympics in Atlanta.

Teddy's a lot tougher than I would be!

I wish they'd find Rudolph.:(
