To All Grandma's... Your Experiences...?

I have know idea why your Mom feels that shes not ready for grandkids, but it really doesn't matter in the end. It really is your choice and she will have to figure out how she wants to deal with it.

That being said, I will say I wasn't ready to be a grandparent at the age of 44 1/2. But not because I didn't want people to think I was getting old. But, because even though my DD (20)was married before she got pregnant I knew that they were not near ready for kids. But, things happen and she had my grandson 13 months after her wedding. Let's just say there was never a baby more loved. He and his Mom live with us now because I was right and his Dad wasn't ready for it. I am his caregiver during the day while my daughter works and people have called me his Mom before.(I don't think I look that young I just think they weren't real sure and didn't want to offend me)lol. I too have gray hair(started going gray at 24) and I do color it. It doesn't bother me as much as it does all my friends who are my age.
We just took Ty on his first trip to Disney in October. Me, my husband, my son and DIL, my oldest daughter(single) and my youngest daughter(Ty's Mom)
and had a great time. I will be taking Ty and any other grandbabies I am blessed to have as much as I can. Really being a younger grandparent has it's advantages. You can still enjoy them and maybe even your Great grandbabies someday.

Best wishes to you! If you lived close to me I loved to be an adopted Nonnie.(Nonnie is the name my best friends granddaughter calls me and it stuck so that's what Ty calls me. He already has a MeMe, Memaw, Grandma, Ma so Nonnie works fine.)

I was 38 when my DGD was born. I honestly love it....I'm 39 now and people ask if she's mine. lol I just say "No, I'm the Gma" and smile and walk away. :) Being a Gma is the best! Your Mom will change her mind once that baby is here for her to hug and love on. :)

My mom turned 37 right before she had her first grandchild. She just turned 49 this month and is now a grandmother of 5. She has never had any issues with being a young grandmother. :confused3

We have joked a bit with her. I used to call her "old granny" at the beginning. And for many years my friends who were just having babies (in their mid-40s) were older than my mom.

I couldn't wait to be a grandmother - and once it's a "done deal", your mom will be over-the-moon happy!! :lovestruc There's nothing like it - nothing in the world..:goodvibes

You watch and see.. Once you're carrying a baby, you'll be begging her to leave you alone..:rotfl::rotfl:

Good luck with your attempts to venture into parenthood..

I just turned 50 this week & am the happy MawMaw to 4 sweethearts.

My oldest granddaughter is 7 & 1/2, my next granddaughter is 5, my grandson is 3 & my baby granddaughter just turned 1. I've another that will arrive in May.

I totally love being a MawMaw. Who cares if folks think I'm getting older...it's true anyway..and the bonus of grandkiddos just makes getting older sweet.

Hopefully, your Mom will fall in love with a grandkiddo when she gets blessed with one & will figure out they are so so awesome!!

p.s. Just pick out a name other than Granny for her...lol!

I didn't say I had any issues with it, the only issue I have is my DD22 decided to move to Idaho, which means I'm too far away from my DGD. lol
My Mom doesn't have any issues being a Great Gma either, she's in her 60's and my Gma (Mom's Mom) loves being a Great Great Gma. :)
