Hi ladies. I've been updating on FB but wanted to pop over here too. MIL ended having emergency surgery 2x yesterday/this morning. She is stable for the time being, as of 10:30 tonight. She has more surgery on Monday. It's not looking good but she's fighting. I'll try to update when I can.

And thank you to all of you who checked in at FB. It really means a lot to me and Curt.

Afternoon ladies....grey and rainy here. Just hope it stays above freezing or else we'll have some problems out there.

JO--glad to hear that for now, at least, your MIL is stable. How is Curt doing? THe kids? You? Of course, all of you are in my thoughts and prayer. Glad to hear that MIL is a fighter--she needs to fight this and get better.

So its less than a week until my cousin visits and everything is in such disarray I don't know where to start. I know I have to go grocery shopping--men are such bottomless pits. I plan to do laundry on Friday. Ack! And NOW he tells me he's allergic to cats! Better stock up on Claritin while I'm at it. Have set the Roomba free and will set Jacques out after that...

While I love having company, its such a pain to prepare for them!

And my cousin wants to go to Atlantic City. Yahoo! Too bad I'm poor. But I did check the calendar and I can get comp'd rooms again. I think this time we'll stay at Caesars just so we're on the Boardwalk and closer to the outlets. Now Mother Nature just has to cooperate.

Wendy, tell me about your books! Do you have specific titles in mind or do you just browse? I'm still getting used to my Kindle, so unless I absolutely have to have it, I just haven't been shopping for e-books. I do so much better in the bargain bins at B&M stores.

Hi to everyone else!

Well the weather here has been anything but decent. We've had a blizzard warning since yesterday evening. Not as much snow as Ev but our few inches are blowing around so bad you can't see 2 ft in front of you. Plus the temps are frigid - going below zero and winds 45mph. And, since we got a ton of rain yesterday afternoon, once it changed over it made for a thick sheet of ice under the snow. Needless to say no one is going anywhere today.

I am so ready for a vacation.

Did anyone see that footage of the roof collapsing in MN??? Thank God no one was inside at the time.

It hasn't been too bad so far. THere was an article in today's paper from the Wall Street Journal about a man debating taking his kids to Disney again. Most posters were caught up in the fact that he was spending 5000, but really the article was about should you spend money to essentially go on the same vacation year after year.

oops. Its on the budget board called "money article".

Wendy, tell me about your books! Do you have specific titles in mind or do you just browse? I'm still getting used to my Kindle, so unless I absolutely have to have it, I just haven't been shopping for e-books. I do so much better in the bargain bins at B&M stores.

I'm all about historical fiction. It's mostly romance, but not all, and time period ranges from Middle Ages in Scotland to WWII anywhere. Lots of "bonnet novels" too--stories about the Amish. I get a catalog from Christian Book Distributors every few months, mark all the books I want, and then go over to Amazon.com and see what's available. If it's not available yet, I put it on my wish list, and then once a month or so I go through my wish list and order whatever is available. I ordered a bunch last night--can't wait to read them!!

They also have books for free all the time. You can do a search of free books. It changes at least daily. My BFF only gets the free ones, and she's got something like 120 books stored on her Kindle, waiting to be read!

I have no problem going to the same place every year. I guess it's nice to switch it up a little bit but by going every year the kids are able to graduate from touring with parents to maybe going off on their own and making their own memories. Maybe one year a couple of friends could go too. That would add to the cost unless you live close by.

Just wasting time...need to brush the teeth again...going to get them cleaned today...I HATE dentist offices! It's already a cold and grey day...flurries. Going to the dentist does not help! I should not complain...was praying for D&D whe I saw the awful weather in WI!

Kitty, I thought of you this weekend too. Did you see Despicable Me is coming out? I did not see it but when I saw the ad where you can get the goggles with it, I knew that was something Kitty had to have! I can so see you with them on!

Wendy---I love historical fiction too. Our bookstore had soem great buys for 4-6 last week.

Morning ladies...avoiding cleaning at the moment. Considering that I can't even sit at my desk due to the mess, I think its almost unavoidable. My goal is to find the desk underneath it all and finally get those cards out! Girls, you know I love you, but I'm just absentminded now and then. Think of my cards as holiday cards--sometime between Christmas and New Years!

I'll be back! My back hurts from bending over to type...

Well, due to the extreme cold (-15F windchills) ice and blowing snow, the kids are off of school today.

Kids are thrilled but since they didn't announce this until late, I already had them up, dressed and lunches made. Now they're just driving me crazy.

M&N - Thanks for the prayers but I think Ev needs them more. They're really getting pounded. Our area didn't get that much snow, but the winds were bad and had lots of whiteout conditions with the snow we did get. Roads are pure ice cuz it all started out as rain. But I'm very thankful we don't live in MN where they got 2ft of snow. Yikes!

Well I'm still alive...Tod still could still end up having to go in if they manage to open the road between now and 6ish...after that I think they'll try for the 8pm-8am crews instead. Mind you I can't see across the street because of the blowing and falling snow...so it doesn't seem likely.
