TIVO Question

I'm considering purchasing TIVO for my DH for Christmas. I believe I read that you need a telephone line for this service. Is that true? Can you explain why you need the phone line? Does it have to be hooked all the time into the phone line? Thanks!!!

It needs the telephone line to get the most current programming information so the TiVo works properly. It downloads the info once a day, so yes you would need to have it connected all the time. They give you a splitter so it's not a problem.

You can also plug it into your computer and download the information that way. They also have a Tivo message board, sorry don't have the address

We set up our tivo to call in the middle of the night- 3am. It uses our regular phone line to do so, and doesn't interfere with phone usage except for a little while around 3am.

We love tivo!!!!!!

The standalone Tivo's will use a USB ethernet adapter instead for the phone call. You would need some sort of broadband internet service.

If you have DirecTV make sure you get the combo DirectTV/Tivo box. The tight integration and dual tuners are what really make Tivo shine.
