Hey everyone!

Staying in a value resort for the first time. Have stayed deluxe in the past. Can you help me be prepared for getting the room organized?

I've been reading about hanging a curtain? What's that about?:confused3 And anything else you can tell me that is helpful for the room.

We are driving, so can pack all kinds of helpful things. Going the first week of free dining in August.

Thanks so much!

Hi! I'm thinking your asking about space savings room organization tips?

Some tips I have read of and have tried:

-clear, plastic shoe organizer to hang over bathroom door-this has lots of nice compartments for everyone and all their toiletries and is not scattered all around the counter space.

-power strip-can plug all things like cells, camera batteries-I place ours in the narrow strip between the bed and wall were no one walks, I also put our "hamper" here as well

These are just 2 tips that have really helped us keeping our room from turning into a pit of chaos. We love Values but are starting to outgrow them family size wise. You will have a great time!

First, the curtain thing is really about separating spaces rather than using space well. You could bring a tension rod and a curtain to put in the "doorway" of the sink area. It's a good way to keep that area less bright especially when you might be the first person waking up in the morning and are looking to let the rest of the tribe get a bit of extra zzzzzz.

Pop up hampers can be really great as well. You can get them at the Dollar Store sometimes for a buck. You can put these under the sink area to get them out of the way and just fill em up. I don't use the hampers for laundry, but in stead for miscellaneous items so that things aren't piling up on tables.

Bring a ton of extra hangers. Hanging your clothes is MUST in a Value Resort. There is very little drawer space. I use the drawers for underwear, socks, bathing suits, and extras.

There are five in my family, so it definitely gets pretty cramped in these rooms. We use the space next to the bed furthest from the door (there is a wall right next to it) to store suitcases. People usually don't store stuff there because of concerns about getting on and off the bed. I say - climb on from the middle - you don't have to get on and off that many times! If you don't plan on doing laundry, I would just fold up laundry and put it in one of the suitcases next to the bed. This way you know right away what is dirty. If you can empty a couple of suitcases, you can pre-sort which will make getting laundry done when you get home a snap!

Since you have some room, bring some of those small plastic bins/ baskets/ pop up fabric bins to put on the table and sink areas. At the end of the day, you can instruct the family to drop cell phones, keys, KTTW, photopass, wallets, etc in the bin on the table near the door. This way you're not looking for the essentials in the morning - they're all in one place, nothing is lost, and you can get out the door without screaming at each other :lmao:

Clothes pins are good for hanging wet bathing suits on the little clothes line in the bathroom.

Use the safe for storage, too! We put things in the safe that we don't plan on touching during the trip, but need for the trip home. Then just put a note on the inside of your door that says "CHECK THE SAFE" so that you won't forget before you leave. It also helps you on your last day to get everything else packed without worrying that you'll need to dig through your stuff to find your Magical Express passes or keys to the house once everything is put away neatly.

I probably have a hundred more, but I won't bore you!

Good luck!

I get the curtain thing now...it's because the lights face into the room...that's a good idea for us I think more for evening than for morning...

Hangers...you know, we NEVER have enough drawer space. And I always think to myself that I should have remembered to bring hangers.

You can't bore me. I love getting ready for vacation. Anything else you think of, I'd be happy to read about.:goodvibes

Just passing on an idea I read and thought was great--use the ironing board as a table for putting things on.

Since you're driving, I would also suggest bringing a cooler if you plan to eat/snack in the room. We bring one on wheels with a handle, so DH can just roll it down the hall to refill with ice.

Most of the items I would suggest have already been mentioned but definitely worth repeating: a pop-up hamper, clothespins, and a power cord.

We are a family of 5 and actually found the room to have enough drawer space for us. There are 6 drawers, so each of the 3 kids had their own (I pack the kids outfits in ziplock bags, so I just dump all the baggies into their drawer), I used one for my clothes, and DH and I shared the last one for underwear, socks, and pjs. DH put the rest of his clothes on the shelf in the closet: one stack of shirts, one stack of shorts.

We stacked all our suitcases on the top shelf of the closet so they were out of the way and kept the hamper near the sink to contain all the dirty clothes. I also brought all our shoes (I bring 3-4 pairs per person) in a laundry basket next to the door so no one is searching for a lost shoe when we're ready to head out to the parks.

We have always had a pack'n'play or toddler-sized air mattres plus two strollers (I never fold them) and had adequate space to keep everything organized.

If you think you will be short of drawer space, you could bring a sweater type shelf unit that hangs in the closet. You could put clothes, toys, cell phones or other misc. items there.

Last trip I had the over-the-door hanging pocket thing but the metal hooks that went over the door were too thick and the door wouldn't close. I discovered that the ironing board fits in the closet space and used it as a shelf. It's pretty handy, next to the sink, and it can be set low enough so that if you have hanging shirts, they can hang above the ironing board-shelf. The board is also shorter than the closet space so there is space to hang longer things at one end.

Another thing I bring along is a cup/container that is on a suction cup. I hang this on the mirror for our toothbrushes/toothpaste, to free up counter space. My DD also has a really cute, soft plastic animal head that is on a suction cup; the animal's mouth holds her toothbrush. Let's see, what else? OH! A cheap (Dollar store) soap dish; I hate all that gloopy soap on the edge of the sink! (we've used the lid to a take-out coffee cup in a pinch!) I also bring a suction cup hook and put it in the bathtub, for hanging wet wash cloths on. Gee, I'm seeing a theme here... suction cups!

The ironing board is a great idea! Thank you to the PP that described how it fit into the closet area. That is so helpful!:thumbsup2

we used the top of the tv cabinet for storage for our food, souvenirs and anything we didn't want the kids to get a hold of (out of their reach). We bought a ton of snack foods so we could just do breakfast on the go every morning – this worked well for us then. There were also shelves next to the tv when we stayed at Pop in August 2008. It didn’t look the neatest but there was a place out of the way for everything.

In this photo you can barely see that the pack & play fit perfectly in-between the closet and the tv stand – so we put the diapers, bottles, formula and all of DDs necessities on those shelves by the tv. If you don't need the pack & play you can put a storage box or luggage there and it's out of the way - we never once tripped over the Pack & Play.

We put a hamper duffle bag under the sink so it was out of the way. I think we may have stored our suitcases under there and in the closet – but if you are driving you can always repack them in the trunk to get them out of the room.

What a great idea! I have some to use at home, but it would be great to use at WDW!

Remember that you can call Mousekeeping upon arrival and request extra hangers (rather than packing your own). They even asked me which type I needed - the type with clips (to hang up pants or skirts) or without clips. They delivered a dozen hangers within ten minutes of my arrival - sweet!

I also bring a power strip to charge camera, phones, etc.

And a pop-up hamper is a big help.

saw a photo of the updated Pop rooms and there appear to be a curtian you can pull to close off the sink area from the room. Anyone there recently can verify?

Don't know if they have included them or not, but they are great for changing behind - it frees up the bathroom for the next person and still gives you some privacy, besides blocking out the light for those still sleeping!

I haven't read all the posts, but I normally stay in DVC villas and love having the mini kitchette available as I have small kids so I rented a small fridge there (you also may be able to check the budget boards and see if you can't get into one of those to score a free one while there) and brought with me a coffee pot and toaster. I need coffee in the morning before doing anything and I was very surprised to hear they didn't have them in the room. The toaster was for bagels and toast for breakfast and then I also brought a box of cereal and got milk there. I prefer to have breakfast done before leaving the room as we normally get out a little later (say 10ish) unless we specially plan a breakfast at CRT or CP.

We use the shoe hanger Idea,It works out great!, now I did not know about getting extra hangers from mousekeepers,i was just thinking haging them up would be a great Idea:thumbsup2. I use a draw string bag for dirty clothes, but then again I do wash. once every three to 5 days. We also bring a container for wallets, change, keys phones. This helps so much,we are not running around asking where the lanyards are!. The sink candys, great Idea that would really help cleaning up around the sink. A I dea I herd was buying a ballon and keeping It in the room,it will help keep the AC going, because Its motion activated.

The a/c is motion activated? It isn't set on a temperature? That is interesting. I need to read more about that...

Everyone has great tid bits to add...thanks all.

OH! A cheap (Dollar store) soap dish; I hate all that gloopy soap on the edge of the sink!

These are some great tips. I use a washcloth to hold the soap. I don't mind the gloppiness so much as I hate struggling to get the bar of soap off the smooth counter.
