Timing of refurbishments

I'm bummed pirates will be closed in August while I'm there. Does Disney have a method to planned refurbishments? Shouldn't the busy times like the summer be avoided if possible? Wouldn't some of the slower times work better. Not trying to whine, just curious.

Perhaps, but I'd be upset if I were there during a slower time and everything was down for refurbishment.

I think we miss POTC by ONE DAY this year. Grrrr!

Just came back from WDW on insane trip with a total of 21 friends. Pirates being down became our running gag. While some of the more crazy members of the party managed to ride it (during EMH or near closing) it seemed to be down midday over and over again. One morning it started down with CMs standing in front of it with signs explaining how people with FP+ for it had already been giving a bonus FP to use.

Pirates needs that refurb and needed it months ago!

They can't refurb everything during the slow times, so it seems like something is almost always closed. It would stink to take a trip in February or September only to find that everything that needed to be refurbed was closed. I think it was a good idea to avoid doing Jungle Cruise and Pirates at the same time.

That said, I was resigned to missing Pirates and am happy that the date has pushed back to after my trip.

I suppose chances are something will be down no matter when you go. As much as I will miss POTC this time, I would be more disappointed if one of the mountains were out of commission. At least I will get to ride the dwarf mine train for the first time!
