Time Cover - What do you think?

At least they chose a hot mom. :lmao:

I thought it was supposed to be a parody or satire but I guess that chick really does breast feed her 3 year old. Personally I think that is all kinds of disturbing to be still breastfeeding any kid that can walk up and just feed themselves.

JMO of course.

ETA: Lest someone get the wrong idea I am all for breastfeeding babies in public and see nothing wrong or unnatural about it. The key term in that sentence being babies.

Bizarre...that child is too old to be BFing!!!!

Right now someone in France is saying "Zees Americains are so uptight. Zhay do not like zee breasts".

I think TIME wanted it to be shocking, and it is.
My personal reaction to it was 'gross' (and I am a mom who breastfed all 3 of my kids).

There is NOTHING wrong, disturbing or gross about breastfeeding a toddler :confused3 The picture is meant to grab your attention and it works. It's no big deal and I would have no problem with my kids seeing this picture. I breastfed my three kids, the last being the longest at 18 months. I would however continued to breastfeed if she wanted to. Would I have continued to age 4 or 5, no. To age 2 or 3, probably yes. Some people are so uptight about this type of thing. Who cares! I don't care if I see a women breastfeeding in public at all, I did it all the time myself. I also do not care if my children see someone breastfeeding or even if they see a ****. Big whoop!

I fail to "get" how breast-feeding is beneficial to a three year old. Babies -yes! But a 3 year old? (& THAT 3 year-old is big!) At that age, the child should be eating a balanced diet. And parents can go the extra mile and work on feeding their child organic, meat-free - whatever.

To each his(her) own.

I breastfed my oldest until he was almost 2. I have no problem with breastfeeding, but I find that cover distasteful.

That is one HUGE "3 year old". I find it to be gross. Do it in the privacy of your own home with a modicum of modesty. Someday that poor kid is going to be taunted mercilessly for this.

When they're old enough to ask for it by name... using a complete sentence... it's time to switch to cow's.

Does a 3 year old really count as a toddler? My nephew is turing 3 next week and that kid looks WAY older than him. My DD is 4.5 and that kid seems bigger than her.

I'm all for breastfeeding, breastfeeding in public is OK with me. I even helped a new mom her 1st time breastfeeding in public recently. My 11 year old sees his 8mo old cousin nurse all the time. No issue with any of that.

This? Eh. It seems unnecessary. Like it is just being done to shock not for any health or even comfort benefits to the child.

I'm anti-extreams in parenting no matter what they are. This is extreme. If the kid is potty trained, it is likely time to ween.

I saw the cover briefly this morning online and didn't think anything about it-it's a mom feeding her child, which is normal and not weird. It wasn't until later today that I started seeing 'controversy' about it! To me it is not controversial, although my own kids did not nurse till age 3 (the age of the little one on the cover) I was open to it, had they not weaned earlier. I know several people who have nursed that long so it's not unheard of.

However, I deliver mail and I'm sure when that issue comes through in a couple of days, my coworkers (most of whom are male) will have plenty to say :scared1: But it's still ok.

As a mom who BFed all three of my babies, I find it disturbing. When a child, and yes a 3 year old is now officially a child, can get the nutrition they need from food there is no reason to be BFing them any more. That mom has issues.

Meh. BF toddlers is not about nourishment, it's about comfort. Like a breast-shaped hug or pat on the head. My neighbor BF her son way past 3 years old. He is now a student at Cornell University on scholarship. It didn't warp him. My DD BF a little past 2 when she self weaned. Of course, I would never had done it on the cover of a national magazine :rotfl:.

Agree with all of this. IMO if a child is still nursing at that age it's because the mother doesn't want to stop. That child can have all his nutritional needs met without it, and can cuddle without needing a breast to latch onto.

I don't get it. So a 3 year old is too old to get nurishment from their own mother but it's fine to get nuishment from milk meant to go to a calf :confused3
