Time Cover - What do you think?

I find it in bad taste but not really surprising given the morals of the times.

Pardon me while I go scour my eyeballs. :scared1:

I saw the headline and thought "geez, more uptight people offended by breastfeeding." I clicked on the link expecting to see a good bit more breast than might make some people comfortable, then to come back to the forum and post that I wasn't offended. But GEEZ, that picture is shocking and that child looks way to big to be breastfeeding. Big kid standing on a stool to reach mom's breast? The pic honestly creeped me out.

I breastfed both my DDs and am never bothered by a mother feeding her infant in public. But this is too much.

Meh. BF toddlers is not about nourishment, it's about comfort. Like a breast-shaped hug or pat on the head. My neighbor BF her son way past 3 years old. He is now a student at Cornell University on scholarship. It didn't warp him. My DD BF a little past 2 when she self weaned. Of course, I would never had done it on the cover of a national magazine :rotfl:.

Pacifiers should be weaned by that age as well.

I know why. It's the fatigues. When you see fatigues and a buzz cut, you think soldier, and soldiers are adults. If the kid had been photographed in a pr. of Lightning McQueen pjs the photo would be giving a very different vibe.

Also, the woman's posture has something to do with it, too, I think; it's that subliminal thing. Standing that way with her upstage leg turned outward reminds me of Shirley Maclaine as Irma la Douce -- who was a hooker.
I think it's also the look on the kid's face like he has been caught doing something naughty.

Was anyone else just a bit insulted or annoyed when they insinuated that you are not "mom enough" if you are not breastfeeding your child at that age?

You're supposed to be insulted and annoyed -- it's provocative pseudo-journalism designed to get buzz going.

That's they the mother on the cover is model thin and attractive -- so they can sexualize breast feeding to appeal to straight men (and nursing fetishists) and make some women jealous and feel inadequate. Because it wouldn't have been as titillating to see a short, overweight, dumpy woman in mom jeans and a Mickey tee-shirt with an exposed breast, now would it? Nope, they specifically chose an attractive slim woman to appeal and aggravate.

:thumbsup2 ::yes::

Im thinking that if a kid can spell MILK, it might be time to stop, just sayin'

I'm not insulted or annoyed. Like I said upthread, I was open to longer breastfeeding, but my babies all weaned themselves before 2. I'm happy with our natural end to breastfeeding, and feel quite 'mom enough'. It's not a competition.

Can't wait to go and read all the replies after this!

Personally, I had a hard time looking at this photo. I found it rather disgusting. There is no reason a 3 year old needs to be breastfed. The look on both of their faces made it even worse.

Exactly, period, the end.

The picture evokes reaction and opionions. The actual situation, not so much. I am not disturbed, disgusted or grossed out at all.

Time Magazine covers are provocative. Yeah, not so much. Controversial, as much as possible.

I'm in the camp of "do what you think is best for your kid".... But putting the three year old on the cover of time mag with his Mom's breast in his mouth was somewhat naive if that mom thinks it won't come back to haunt him.....

Go read the comments under the Yahoo news article. They're a hoot :rotfl:

I was praying the photo was photo shopped and they really didn;t make a child pose for that

While I breastfed both daughters, one for 2 1/2 I think there is a time and place and on the cover of a magazine is not it. My 2yo grandson is still breast fed when he wants to but not out in public. It is no longer a means of feeding him but a comfort thing.
Btw that child doesn't look like a 3 yo but more like a 4 or 5 yo. Been subbing for a child care teacher in our childcare program at the high school and have been with children from 4 months to 5 years so I know what a 3 yo looks like.

I don't see how breastfeeding toddler is gross. Just because it isn't for you doesn't mean it is disturbing or gross.
I did think that was a pretty big three year old.
