Tie Dye Instructions for Spiral Mickey Shirt

Ok, ya'll talking about places in Norman bites! I miss the drive-in there (NOT sonic, we have sonic here) I can't remember the name of it. It's kind of 50's style or something. They have the BEST fried pickles, or Pickel-o's.

Last time I was home I was there for a funeral and didn't make it up to Norman.

Ok... now that I've ran completely off topic.....

Do they still make a gel type bleach? I found a elmer's school glue "pen". Says washable school glue. One end is like a brush type thing, the other end is a small hole- I got it to try on a swirl shirt with the spray fabric paint. the ends come out, so I figure I can take the brush end out and re-fil it with glue. I wonder if you could fill it with gel bleach? Liquid bleach wouldn't work because it would just run out.

Also, I think I'm thinking of Tinker here, but could be wrong- if you've used dyes that you have to use the soda ash with and just added the soda ash to the dye (I have a Jacard kit, and I know I spelled that wrong)- how much soda ash did you use?

And I'm loving the pics from everyone else! I haven't dyed mine yet :sad1:

I have a few more mickey heads to stitch. I'm doing extras so hopefully I'll come out with at least one per person that looks ok

And Tinker- LOVE the pink and brown! I love that color combo. Another one I like is a teal or turquoise and black. And purple and grey. Not usually a purple person, but that I like.

Finally I did some single color ones - the hot pink came out the best but I don't think the colors show real well in the photos.
The purple one is mine and it is kindof blotchy like the dye didn't mix well - I might do a redo on that one.

Loving everyone's new shirts!

Thought I would maybe do some this week with my cousin who is visiting, but not sure that's going to happen--she doesn't quite understand that she would have quite a bit of prep work to do sewing the Mickey Heads! Heck, I told her 6 or 8 weeks ago to start buying t-shirts for her and the 3 boys, and she hasn't even done that!! I don't understand why it is so hard to go buy plain white t-shirts!! She acts like she doesn't live near a Target or WalMart for goodness sake! LOL!! :rotfl2:

Anyway, that was completely off topic. Sorry!

Dawn, I just wanted to respond to your post about the purple not mixing. With whatever purple you used, you will probably get the same results.

Many colors are mixes of a limited number of "pure" dye colors, and depending on the properties of the pigments of a particular color combination, when you dye one of the colors may bleed out at the edges. This is not a mistake and is very characteristic of the procion MX fiber reactive dyes. In the case of that particular purple, it is most likely a mix of fuschia and turquoise, and the turquoise bleeds out at the edges.

If you ever use the jacquard burgundy (which really looks like a slightly pinkish muddy brown) it will bleed out green at the edges!! We really liked how it looked!!

I really liked the single color ones!

Well, now I've gone and done it.

There was a hole in one of my gloves when I was dyeing a round of shirts last night. Guess who's the proud owner of a greenish/purplish/brownish finger and thumb?

Yup, that's me. :lmao:

The only reason, and I mean the only reason it bothers me is that I work at a bank. So when I count the money, it's going to be highly visible, being on my right hand. :lmao: Fortunately, I don't go in until tomorrow, maybe some will wear off by then!

Anyway, my third round of shirts is melding with the dye so to speak. I had an idea for one and I don't know if it'll work out, but I'll definitely take pictures and post them later for you all. :goodvibes

CLASSIC 50'S!!!!! MAN! That sounds soooo good right now! I wont be back in Norman until after our WDW trip (Aug 30th-Sept 5th!) but I am making a B line straight to Classics! My parents live really close to it!

I put 1 tsp per bottle of dye- It seems to work just fine :) Just make sure you shake it really well, and use warm water to fill it, bc it is a little hard to dissolve!

Thanks! I do a lot of turq and black for the guys- I actually have one in the dryer now, it looks nice! I am also working on a purp and grey Eeyore design!

:rotfl: TK, just take a little spray bleach cleaner, and spray your thumb! It will come right off :goodvibes

I don't think I have any. :lmao: The hits just keep on coming! :rotfl2: But thank you, we are going out this morning, so maybe I can get some. :thumbsup2

hahahaha! TK! What am I going to do with you!? lol! Anything with bleach in it should work, just dont leave it on there long, bc it can irrate your skin!

Yea Classic 50s!!! I work at a summer camp, and the kids get to go there for slushes. Yum!

That sounds like a good idea (the glue pen). If Wal-Mart doesn't carry it, Sam's probably doesn't either, right? I know Sam's used to have three packs of bleach pens.

Haha!! I had rainbow hands after I tie-dyed with the kids 'cause I let them have the gloves.

So, if you put the ash in the dye, you can just dye a dry shirt? Does it change the process time at all?

I have heard that the processing time goes down to 8 hours, but I still leave mine for 24 just to be safe- it does effect the way the colors look, they will be darker.

OK, show and tell time! Not a lot to show you today, but a few! More tomorrow!

I know, I'm a mess. :lmao: I actually took a little bit of bleach and put it on a cotton swab and got most of it off, and then moisturized really well. I have mega sensitive skin.

Wear it with pride!!! :hippie:

:lmao: I did for quite a while. :thumbsup2

Oh my goodness!

I have to say, all of you who tie dye with your kids or let them help are so brave! I have yet to let my four year old son help me. It scares me. :scared1:

Thanks! I made my boys matching ones, we are going to wear them with Khakis on our Animal Kingdom Day! Now I just need to do one more color combo for DHS... hmmmm.....

You know what I did for DHS?

I'm really into Sorceror Mickey, so one of my tanks, I made sure it was reds/blues/a little purple. I like the color combination, and when I get my picture taken with him, I think we'll go quite nicely. :thumbsup2

TK- thats an adorable idea- now you have my brain thinking about doing something with stars on there... hmmmm.....

MY TURN!!! This was my 1st attempt - I'm waiting on some dyes from Dharma so this was a Tulip Dye Kit (bought at Michael's with 1/2 off coupon!)
